Hi Jay! Hope you’re good! My grandma was a little girl and she was evacuated to Wales 🏴 from London as many children were, anyway she came back chubby apparently as they fed her so well😂❤. She was very lucky to stay with a wonderful family . my grandfather was 6 years older than her and he was anti aircraft in North Africa

My parents were war-time kids and they lived in the south west of England in the countryside. The area was bombed a few times but nothing like the cities. As kids would do, my uncle would run out for war souvenirs after an air battle/ bombing raid. He thought he'd struck gold when he found a pilots helmet in a hedge, only then to find the pilot's head was still in it. As a young lad, that gave him nightmares for a while. After the war, rationing was standard for everyone. My parents adopted this attitude for all their lives. To fix and make do, and to only use a very little of anything.

I would recommend looking into the battle of Bamber Bridge, it’s basically about black servicemen in England and how the white US troops wanted segregation and the locals were having none of it. Also The US army had to make a video to prepare troops for the fact there was no segregation in the Uk . You can find the video on here

I concur, Bamber Bridge had me in floods of tears, the commeraderie between the British village & the American soldiers. We don't discriminate against our fighting brothers.jay. You gotta show it, bro.unless you have already covered it.

I've got a confession to make here. When I was younger I was somewhat anti-American. Why you may ask? Because it was always portrayed as an episode of Dynasty. And the UK is exactly the same. False. It's only when you grow older that you learn the truth. And being forced to rely on right wing newspapers didn't help either. And who does this person think he is with his sardine can? Btw, it's John Bull, not John Britain...

Good luck with your studies - re 'The British slow to react' - LOL - the whole WORLD war only went from 1939 to 1945 = six years. The pace of the war was truly crazy. The Ukraine Russian war has been going on since 2014 and the invasion was almost two years ago and is going nowhere fast.
