So when the bails have been removed after an attempted runout the ball is still live and the batting team can attempt another run. In order for the fielding team to get a run out in this situation they can do 2 things. 1 place the bail back on the stumps and knock them off again or 2 remove a stump from the ground while the ball is touching it, usually achieved by holding the ball in one hand and pulling the stump with both hands
