Today I am continuing my journey through the Canadian provinces, by taking a deeper look into Saskatchewan. Truth be told I have absolutely no idea what Saskatchewan is like, and what kinds of attractions it offers. That is exactly why I am excited to react and learn all about it from this video of the best things to do in Saskatchewan. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!

Can’t believe they didn’t mention the Al Capone tunnels in Moose Jaw, Sask. These are underground tunnels ( that still exist )- where alcohol was bootlegged from Canada to the States during Prohibition. It’s a fun, interactive, flapper style tour taking you through the workings of transporting illegal booze from Canada to the States. Also they have the Chinese Tunnels. Should look it up you’d be pleasantly surprised.

I grew up in Saskatchewan. The southern part of the province is quite arid, yet there are miles and miles of grain fields. The northern and central parts of the province are heavily forested with many beautiful lakes and excellent fishing. Cypress Hills provincial park in SW Saskatchewan contains the highest point between Quebec and the Rocky Mountains. People in Saskatchewan are some of the friendliest people in the world. All in all, it was a great place to grow up. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy them.

I was born in Moose Jaw . We used to joke that Saskatchewan was the only place in Canada where you could watch your dog run away for days as the land is so flat in certain areas. Side note, Al Capone tunnels are, or were, a tourist attraction in Moose Jaw and it is also the home of the Snow Birds.

Also, Tyler, a lot of the names come from native words and are the names the aboriginals gave the land. Its actually the same in the US. Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Dakota.. all native. I guess we just get used to them. I think in the US, places are more named after the native chiefs, and here they are actually what the places were called before we got here, by the people who lived here.

I did a 17km hike in Grasslands this summer and came across 6 bison over two days of hiking. They were in the rut and were getting a little territorial. One was even blocking our trail and we had to walk as far around it as possible while hoping to not step on a rattlesnake. Talk about getting your blood pumping when you know that giant beast could charge at you and end you at any moment.

I've participated in the sunset ceremony at the RCMP depot. I was a member of a reenactment group organized by Parks Canada. We did side by side comparisons of drill and tactics: my group, as a late 1800s period NWMP (North West Mounted Police) troup section, and the RCMP cadets next to us showcasing in turn the modern command and drill equivalent. It was an honour and a lot of fun. We even got to stay the week in the depot itself as we trained and rehearsed, in their dorms. A great experience.

I've lived in Saskatchewan all my life and honestly the reason they don't showcase the cities as much is because the best stuff to do is outdoors. Overall I would say the attitude of people in Saskatchewan is a love of the outdoors. I have met all of my friends through one outdoor activity or another. The winters on the prairies can get particularly brutal so when spring comes everyone wants to be outdoors as much as possible. Whether its hiking, horseback riding, hanging out by one of the lakes, we all wanna take full advantage of our warm weather. Though winter camping, snowmobiling, and cross country skiing keep a lot of us outside in the winter too

Hmm, I have to say the same thing… I hope the video for Alberta is from the actual people living there. Because these top 10 ten reason to move here are just extremely wrong or not made by people from here like quote “Alberta has extremely nice people living here and diverse” which I call it blasphemy. It’s mainly Christian faith here like Catholics and Protestant churches is in every town about 3 or more. I hope the video of Alberta isn’t a bastardization. Thanks for saying Saskatchewan sounds like a foreign country. I wish I was living in a more exotic place. lol! I'm glad they mentioned the parliament buildings and the Saskatchewan museum. The T rex robotic figure they have in the museum also has a name: Scotty. I've loved the dinosaur displays since I was a kid. I'm surprised they didn't mention the Saskatchewan Science Centre and Imax Theatre. Those are big tourist attractions in the city, too. There is a walking path/ biking path around Wascana lake that lots of people walk on/bike on during the spring/summer/autumn seasons. Oh, and we have the geese there, too. There is also a Mosaic of Cultures that happens every year in late Mary/early June in Regina to celebrate the diversity in the city. The pavillions usually consist of: Chinese, Scottish, Irish, Hungarian, Romanian, German, Korean (South), in 2019, there was a first nations pavillion and we usually have two Ukrainian pavillions, Kyiv and Poltava. Because of the war in Ukraine happening, I've heard from a co-worker of mine who does dancing at the pavillions that there probably won't be Ukrainian pavillions at Mosaic this year. I think most of the funding that would go towards those pavillions is going towards helping the Ukrainians coming over from escaping the war.

I think my mother summed up Saskatchewan in a single frustrated sentence back in 1972. My parents and I drove from Ontario to Alberta back when I was about 14 y/o. It was very hot when we hit Saskatchewan and there was no air conditioning in the car. My mother was tired, overheated and hungry and she said "Jesus H, you couldn't squat and relieve yourself without being seen for 80 miles." I drove across Canada in 2008 from Nova Scotia to Alberta, 5000 miles. Ended up staying/ working and exploring the province, for 10 yrs. To me, except for Manitoba…..the Prairie provinces were not flat as much as having an undulating landscape. Saskatchewan in particular, and Alberta ( less so due to mountainous landscape as well) seem to “flow “ like the ocean …..not flat but a gently rolling landscape. 😊 Although Nova Scotia, surrounded by the ocean ( is in my soul, my blood and bones , from being born here), I fell in love with the prairies. From the rolling farmland, to the deep Coulees and and the mountains . I ended up writing several poems about the areas I explored and lived in. Totally beautiful. ♥️

The province is huge and you didn’t even get to see a lot of it in this video. From the northern shield, the sand dunes in the north as well, and the lakes. So many lakes! As for names of lakes, rivers, and many sites, they are often native names or English interpretations of original names. Saskatchewan is one of three prairie provinces with Alberta, and Manitoba the others, prairies are like your great plains states in the USA.

In regards to national and provintial parks. ALL the proviances have them. And yes, there are LOTS. When I moved to Canada 15 years ago, I found it pleasnatly surprising how many green spaces were set asside within the cities. No concrete jungle here! Plus of course all the provintial parks, setting aside natural places to remain protected an undeveloped. It's amazing!

The battle of Batoche with Louis Riel for his Métis people’s culture is another famous site. Saskatoon jam can be bought at Costco stores when in season. Water Springs can be found in Saskatchewan north from Yellowstone as we all know Yellowstone is moving northwards everyday and the same rocks at Mount Rushmore are found in Saskatchewan. Summer boats pull rubber inner tubs on lakes and in winters skidoos do the pulling for fun. Dugouts with water freeze in winters to make excellent outdoor skating rinks for families. More friendly and happy people who make and find things to do from nothing. Excellent card and horseshoe players too. 😂😂😂

Your videos are awesome thanks for making them. Your pursuit of knowledge is noble and often amusing. I’ve been waiting for you to “visit” Saskatchewan and I’m glad this is the video you picked for it. There is another part of Saskatchewan that this video did leave out that is very important. There is no way to explain what a -40c winter day in Saskatchewan feels like or a clear winters night filled with stars and waves of purple and Green northern lights dancing across the sky. There’s only a million people in Saskatchewan so there is a lot of space to get lost in. We have lakes so big you can’t see shore in any direction. Come visit us sometime I’ll let you pet a moose or a bison just stay away from the geese. Thanks

Driving down a highway , with a window open. Every season you get a different scent . In spring it's melting and you can the swampy aroma from everything that's been under snow all winter . Later the smell of fresh soil from farmers turning it over . Then early June the scent of wolf willows blooming . July has the hot dust hanging in the air , and hay drying , Later the smell of grain dust as farmers start combining. If there is a wet spell in harvest there is a stink of canola spoiling in fields . In fall you can smell the cold weather that's coming. If there is a warm day in winter and you crack the window you have the warm fresh breeze . It's so seldom that a person smells exhaust fumes , industrial smells or trash rotting like other places

Many of the place names in Canada are either native names or English translations of Native names. And Native peoples named places for what was found there. For instance, I lived many of my teen years in a place called Tidnish, which meant "Place to Get Wigwam Poles. The place was rural with a lot of forest and the trees were the straightest trees I have ever seen. Niagara is the Anglicized pronunciation of the native word for "Thundering Waters". This is why we have so many place names that sound strange to us.

Some of the provinces and many of the cities and landmarks are named from various aboriginal languages or words. Toronto was derived from the word tkaronto, Ottawa from adawe, Saskatchewan from kisiskâciwan and many many more. All being words used by natives describe the area's terrain or memorable features, or the actions taken by the inhabintants in that area, for example adawe or Ottawa meaning "to trade". In canada we aren't really ever taught that, but we are exposed to so much more pronouciations of various languages that it doesn't seem weird to us. Canada classifies aboriginals under 3 categories, inuit, the people who live or lived in the artic. First nations, the people who live below the artic line, this encompasses more than 50s individual groups, languages and cultures spanning more than 600 communities. and Métis who are decendants of first nations or inuit people that have been combining cultural practices with european settlers and having children with them. Most of the language adoption tends to happen from the Cree or Michif which is a french and Métis hybrid trading language. It's often known as french cree

There is a lot to do in Saskatchewan if you are willing to drive. It is an 8 hour drive between Waskesiu and Grassland’s national parks. A beautiful province and lovely people. The Transcanada Hwy is okay for getting through quickly but it is much more fun to take the lesser roads. The Cypress Hills, the Redcoat Trail(when the Mounties went west, another story there, Grasslands, the Qu'appelle Valley, and many more places to explore. The standing figure in the RCMP museum that was wearing a blue beret demonstrated that the Mounties had served as UN Peacekeepers. They are proud of that service and have worn the blue beret with the red serge at important events, eg Remembrance Day service here in Vancouver.

I love all your Canadian content, especially this video on Saskatchewan. I've lived near(ish) the Prince Albert area, but a little further east, an hour from Hudson Bay. I've also lived in Saskatoon. And in the border city, Lloydminster. It's half in Saskatchewan, and half in Alberta. It also is the site of the marker for , I think, the 49th parallel. Saskatchewan also has famous sites of the Metís rebellion in the 1880s. Fort Carleton and Batoche and Duck Lake are definitely worth checking out, lots of Canadian History. North and East of Prince Albert, Tobin Lake has an annual Pike Festival, and people come from all over North America to compete in this fishing Festival The Cyprus Hills are amazing too. Lots of historical sites and a beautiful regional park. And then there are the Moose Jaw tunnels. Worth researching, tons of fascinating history. Saskatchewan is fantastic! If you're going to visit, visit from June- September. October-May there's too great a chance of getting sleet, freezing rain, even snow. Time your trips carefully, folks! Quite a few Sask cities have countless festivals throughout the summer. Check out: Craven ( music festival ) Ness Creek ( music festival ) Saskatoon has: - The Fringe Festival on Broadway - The Broadway Art Festival - Taste of Saskatchewan ( international food festival ) -Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan ( live outdoor theater) - The Children's Festival - The Ex ( giant 8 day carnival, rides, games, fantastic food, beer gardens, live music ) - The Jazz Festival There might be more. Saskatchewan is a great place to spend the summer months, and that's not even a 1/10th of all its attractions.

You may have first heard about Saskatchewan from The Muppet Movie. When Kermit and Fozzie are singing about being on the road and taking wrong turns, one of the lines in the song is, "Send someone to get us, we're in Saskatchewan!" Also, in the movie Deadpool, Deadpool claims to be from Regina. At least one of the movies Ryan Reynolds was in was filmed in Regina and he liked the city. Manitou Lake is a salt lake with mineral springs. It has a spa now, but back about a century ago, it was one of the "the place to be" resorts with a grand dance hall (Danceland) with a horsehair sprung floor so it was possible to dance for hours without getting too sore or tired. The dance hall is still there, amazingly. Many of the grand dance halls of the 1920s burned down after being abandoned. Both Regina and Saskatoon have universities and huge parks, plus theatres (live performances), art galleries, and events and festivals all summer. Regina has the Royal Saskatchewan Museum (a natural history museum) and the Saskatchewan Science Centre (interactive science fun), as well as the RCMP training depot.

Also, nearby to the east is the historical site of Cannington Manor which was an English settlement something like Runnymeade , Kansas, keeping all the English traditions such as riding to the hounds (Fox hunts with hounds and horses.), horse races, stc.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan a.k.a the "Paris of the Prairies" or the "City of Bridges" (there are 7 bridges, 6 of which are used to this day and one train bridge). The reason many of our lakes, national parks etc. have such unique sounding names is because the vast majority are called by their Aboriginal names, primarily from the Cree, Ojibway, and Metis nations. In fact, the Cree (one of Canada's largest Aboriginal populations) name for the Saskatchewan River was “Kisiskatchewanisipi,” meaning “swift-flowing river". The name was Anglicized to Saskatchewan, and began being used to refer to the entirety of the province only when Saskatchewan was formally made a province in 1905. The reason for the nice rectangular shape is due to Saskatchewan being one of the last provinces created alongside the neighbouring province of Alberta, which effectively split the prairies across Manitoba to the east of Saskatchewan to part way into Alberta to the west. Hope this bit of history adds some shine to what many think of as a dull place but they couldn't be more wrong, just come on by and check it out yourselves!

A few things about Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan has more hockey rinks than in all of Russia. The largest T Rex skeleton ever found was in Saskatchewan. I would highly recommend you watch DownieLive. Mike Downie is a travel vlogger who took a train across Canada. He would get off the train in each Province and spend a week travelling around that province. In Saskatchewan, he went to a brewery near Saskatoon and went up to an off the grid lodge in Northern Saskatchewan. This lodge is called Big Eddy Lodge and their nearest neighbours are about 60 kms away. Saskatchewan also produces the most mustard than anywhere else in the world.
