1977 Phil Monassa - I saw it live. #1 Malcolm Blight (who visited my school when I was 5 years old - 1971) - as you correctly assumed, it was after the siren to win the game. It was a regular game, but it was the distance. Most AFL players can kick 50 metres, exceptional players can kick 60. It was at least 65m to the goal line, and it went through a goal post height, making the kick more like 75-80 metres. There's been longer kicks, but not after the siren to win the match. It was voted the AFL's #1 moment in it's Centenary year.

My best mate whom I’ve known since he was born, back when we were kids (his parents were divorced) his Dad had a new gf, who turned out to be Malcom Blights step daughter. That was pretty cool. We talked for a while about footy!

@11:12 Jeff Fehring goal was 86metres (94yards) from goal line, one bounce from about 2metres out and through. Longest measured goal in history. number 1 was from about 65metres (71yards) out from goal line but it went through at post height and approx 15metres beyond the goal line to win the game after the siren.

Goals are all six points, when the ball is kicked between the two middle tall posts. Either side is one point. What I love about this video is it shows how the most spectacular goals are scored mostly by indigenous Australians, Aborigines. My favorite players are Cyril Rioli and Lance "Buddy" Franklin, but if you want to see an old school superstar, try and find footage of Gary Ablett Sr (his son Gary Jr was also a generational talent). If you ever watch a full game, the greatest game I ever watched was the 1989 grand final between Hawthorn and Geelong in which Gary Sr played and starred in a historic performance

That last one by Malcolm Blight in 1976 was 83 meters or 272 feet. That's why it was number one. Incredible feat considering it was for the win as well.

One of the biggest goal kickers was Saverio Rocca from Collingwood & North Melbourne. I saw him kick a 65m goal that was huge! Can't believe that wasn't on that reel. It was as big as the #1 kick. Sav retired from AFL and went to the USA to become a punter for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins over 7 years that ended in 2014. I believe he was good at that weird kicking too!

I was at that game where Mick McGuane got that goal (#11). It was a crowd of 94,500 people - a great, big game! After he kicked that goal, you see Number 36 congratulate him - that's Sav Rocca - who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Redskins.

It's very simple... A goal is 6 points, it has to go clean through the middle posts, and it has to be kicked, that's it!... If it hits the post, goes through the left or right side posts or goes through middle goal posts any other way besides kicking it, then it's just a single point. If it hits the very outside posts, it's out of bounds & no score. That's it.... Also, you are awarded a mark simply for catching the ball from a kick (only) longer than 15 meters. The umpire will blow the whistle every time to signify 'a mark' but the player can opt to stop & take an unimpeded kick or continue to play on. That is all. You don't have to jump on someone back for it to be a mark. Players prefer to 'play on' in the general field of play (even if they take 'a mark') to keep the play moving fast, otherwise the opposing team is able to set up their defense more effectively down the field to defend the play. The only time players prefer to stop and take an unimpeded kick, is if there is no clear option up the field, or if they are within a high percentage kicking range of goal.

Number 1 was by Malcolm blight. Was a torpedo punt which spins on its long axis. It goes further but is normally a less accurate kick. Normally discouraged by coaches. But to shoot for goal after the siren with a torpedo is truly an awesome accomplishment showing so much skill and confidence in his skill. Was hoping this was number one despite it being much older than all the others.

If it goes through the goals. it's 6 points whether it bounces, rolls, or ends up at the back of the stands. It has to cross the goal line so if it's tapped back into play before it crosses the goal line it's still in play. If it's touched before it crosses the goal line, only a point will be scored rather than 6. The kick you called a snatch, we would call a snap. When you run, you have to bounce the ball every 15 metres. Nobody runs a tape measure on it but running with the ball, esp. where more than 1 bounce is needed is fairly rare. Suggest you watch an Eddie Betts reel, none like him.... The play at 15:00 was pretty sharp because, if you look at the timer, there were seconds left in the match and an Eagles [blue and yellow] goal would win the match. What unfolded was a mark at half back by no. 1, with 2 mins left on the clock he played on and kicked to no.4 who marked the ball and took his kick from a near impossible angle to win the Grand Final.

You have to kick it between the middle posts untouched - that's 6pts. Kicking it through the L/R posts is 1pt. Hitting either of the 2 middle posts is 1pt. Hitting either the 2 outer posts is 0pts.

The arc outside of the goal line is 50 metres out. Doesn't matter if it bounces as long as it comes off an attackers foot. Through the centre space is worth 6 points. If it hits one of the two centre posts or goes through the outside gaps: 1 point. If it hits either of the outside posts, no score. You can run 15 metres between bounces.

What's so good about this game is the speed and the skill. Try running and bouncing a ball at your full running speed then try to kick it accurately to a target without slowing down, knowing you could be run down at any moment. Not easy. Their only protection is a mouthguard.

Goal number 2 haunted the guy in red and black (Cale Hooker) for the rest of his career because it always got used in highlights for the bloke (Buddy Franklin) who kicked the goal. It even got played as one of Hooker's highlights for his 200th game AND got played when he announced his retirement.

The last video of Malcolm Blight 1976 North Melbourne was an important game for both sides! It’s important to watch the last quarter of that game North Melbourne we’re way behind only to win on the last kick! Classic game! Before that goal he also kicked a goal from a tight angle curving the ball through the goal, that could have been on this list!😊

If a ball is kicked towards the goals and a defender is able to touch the ball and it goes through, it is NOT a goal (6 points) but rather only counts as a rushed behind (1 point). If the defender punches the ball so that it doesn't go through the goals, then the ball is still in play.

I’ll try and break down a few things - keep in mind that this list is one person’s opinion. There’s another top 50 goals video out there that’s quite different. Also, I’d recommend the AFL’s “Best of the Decade 2010-2019” video highlights series. The running dude from 1977 - Phil Manassa - he was only in the video once. Mick McGuane from the 90s was also in there (same team) with a running goal that was similar, and the commentator said “Phil Manassa” as he kicked it, as a reference back to Manassa’s goal. Goal number 4(?) was labelled incorrectly as 9. The goal at number 4 was kicked by Jason Ackermanis from Brisbane Lions. All of the highlights are goals. That is, all went through the two large central posts without touching another player and without touching the posts. That’s the only way to score 6 points (and it has to be kicked). Any other score is 1 point. There was a goal at like No. 5 or thereabouts (Dom Sheed) where the Eagles completed a ridiculous team play from the backline to get a mark in the forward line, which was kicked through for a goal in the last two minutes of the 2018 Grand Final, to give the Eagles the lead after trailing all game. The Collingwood player (Brayden Maynard) is waving his arms and remonstrating with the umpire because he’s claiming he was unfairly blocked by his opponent, keeping him out of the contest. The umpire disagreed and the mark was paid to Sheed. The No. 1 goal was regular season, but you’re right it was after the siren to win the game, and a torpedo kick from 70m on the angle is ridiculous, so it’s a fair choice for top position. There was another very long distance goal (80m?) from just behind the centre circle. Nobody kicks goals from that distance - the players were all pushing up the ground because a kick range of 40m-50m was expected. There’s one goal in the video by Nick Davis from Sydney, can’t remember what number, but he reads the tapout and swoops in and snaps a goal immediately to send Sydney into a final seemingly from nowhere. The clip does it no justice. Possibly the best individual performance I’ve ever seen if you look at how far behind Sydney was at 3 quarter time. Nick Davis kicked 4 goals in the last quarter in a high pressure final. You should be able to find a video that breaks down that game. It was Sydney vs Geelong from 2005 (I think). There’s so many great goals that this video obviously couldn’t fit in, so I definitely recommend checking out others. These “best goals” compilations showcase what I think is possibly the most phenomenal aspect of any team sport on the planet.

So if you want to check out specific players, eddie betts is the human highlight reel, followed by peter daicos for goals. You want marks, jeremy howe, tony modra are good spots to go. General play check out pretty much any midfielder im about to list, michael voss, james hird, nathan buckley, scott pendlebury, lenny hayes, robert harvey, wayne carey, and most recently marvus bontempelli, nick daicos, and patrick cripps. You're going for accuracy. You have to try for between the two larger (centre section) posts. That's worth 6 points. It doesn't matter if it bounces through as you're still getting the accuracy. If you're not quite that accurate and hit the large posts or kick it between the large and small post (either side of the centre section), it's called a behind and it's only worth 1 point. Someone can be in the centre of the ground and still get a goal, provided that it leaves the kicker's boot and goes through the two large posts without being touched by any other player.

Number 1 for context probably went 80 metres. Most players are lucky if the can kick 50 meters. The modern goat of great goals is Eddie Betts you saw a few from him but the OG of crazy impossible goals was Peter Daicos from the 80’s. Both his sons just won the grand final with Collingwood. Nick one of his sons is going to be the best player in the league after only 2 seasons.

Alright lemme explain everything, a goal is worth 6 points and it must go through the two bigger posts in the middle and the other two are worth 1 point along with the post being worth 1, If you touch the ball before it goes through the goal it is also only worth 1 and the umpire can do a score review if they aren’t sure, if the ball goes out of bounds after it bounces the umpires will throw the ball in but if it goes out on the full it is a free kick to the opposing team, you must bounce every 15 steps at most and you can bounce as much as you want, a mark is when you catch the ball without it being touched or hitting the ground, I’m not gonna go through all the free kicks because there are too many but you can look them up if you want to know and that’s all you need to know about footy😊

Through the middle = 6 pts, either side of the middle = 1 point. Don't try to over think it, our game......it's not rocket science. It has to go through without being touched (or hitting the post) it can bounce through or on the full, as long as it's off the foot and NO other player touches it.

Through the tall post is 6 points and through big post and the short outside post only 1 point. You have a league in the states chase down the USAFL and go watch a game or better yet come down to Australia and see how the best game in the world is played. A lot of these goals are 50 plus meters that's like your football's half way line several ex-AFL players have gone to your NFL as punt kickers after they are to old to play AFL.

A drop kick in footy was when you kick the ball after it hits the ground. It died as a kicking technique much to the lament from some of the old school players. It was a standard up to the 1960's. The game as it developed simply moves too fast hence the primacy of the punt kicks.
