All the scandinavian countries love each others. Yes we joke about each other a lot, but thats like sibling rivalry. Mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.

Denmark is so opposite of Norway. Its flat, many beaches, and a very relaxed people and atmosphere. And its a relative short journey. So yes, many Norwegians love Denmark (including me)

1. The interviewer is Danish, Norwegian picks up on that and says Denmark very easily. Tho, a lot like Denmark, It's a popular holiday destination that's close. Also, Denmark is different from Norway yes. 2. Most will answer European countries due to the fact that's where we mostly travel. For example when you have the experience from a country, you answer based on how nice your days were over there on holiday. 3. Some of the people that answer in this video comes from another country and will answer their home country, as expected. 4. Lot of Norwegians own holiday houses in other warmer countries. It's maybe not common, but i know several that do. Cheers!

I'm Norwegian -- and as far as I know, nobody expects anyone else to understand Norwegian, so if you want to go anywhere in the world, you basically have to learn that language. It's just much more effective that way. Myself, I can speak English, Spanish, German and French, which covers most situations that may occur. SOMEBODY always knows at least one of those languages wherever you go. As for the USA? Yes I've been there, but I prefer to say "no comment".

Denmark is a fabulous country. We have an apartment in Copenhagen. The country and her people are lovely. We go for a long weekend whenever we can. We regularly cross the bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo. Our daughters spend whole days out exploring Copenhagen on their bikes with their Danish friends. We regularly travel to Canada but avoid the violent, bigoted and intolerant US, like the plague. We haven’t set foot in the US in a decade and it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever return. The Afghan Taliban are more reasonable than their U.S. equivalents.

Hello from Norway... I personally like all the Nordic countries and maybe Canada... You need to get on a plane to Europe to take a couple of weeks round trip... I promise you, it's worth it. I've been to the US, Nashville and Memphis... I've seen The Houses of Memphis with Barbed Wire Barriers Between the Houses... The overly poorly maintained city of Memphisa all the shops with signs on the door with the inscription "no guns allowed in this shop" A huge contrast to Nashville with its more well-kept and service-friendly city... but your food... Seriously, you really need to take action to get more real food without all the weird ingredients and additives you put in your food... Even their hamburgers certainly didn't taste like meat, but something strange, indescribable. And in Memphis it was impossible to buy anything other than half a pig floating in barbecue sauce and a bunch of fried potatoes and the whole city smelled like barbecue sauce. It's not that we don't like the United States, I liked the United States before, but you have changed.... Now, there are many places in the United States that have a tense atmosphere that doesn't feel safe. There are guns everywhere and an awful lot of noise.

10:25 I don't think it's mainly the closeness that affect this. Sure, it's cheaper and take less time to travel to Europe for Norweigans, but most people I know have visited countries in other continents too. I have been in Africa, Asia and Australia myself, plan to and probably will visit both South and North America some time before I die, as long as I live a fairly normal life span. Norweigans have at least 5 weeks of paid vacation per year, I think that's one of the main reasons we are used to travels. Many Americans have maybe only 2 weeks. And as far as I understand, many also have trouble getting the vacation cleared by their employer far enough in advance to be able to book flights, get a visa for countries that require them and so on.

People pick up on the Danish accent. But also know that Denmark spent a lot of money on getting Norwegians to visit. Everyone who were adult and grew up in the 80s and 90s know the motto "Det er dejlig at være norsk...i Danmark" (it is great to be a Norwegian in Denmark) and would probably half sing it to the jingle tune. They have Legoland, everyone could communicate (except for the names for numbers which is structured on 20 instead of 10 as in Norwegian and Swedish, it is easy to go bicycling vacation in Denmark and it is just a nice ferry trip away from most of Southern Norway. Personally I love Sweden; the exchange rate is on parity; in Denmark it is 160 to 100 (or something like that) so everything is expensive there, as is many Euro-countries. Sweden is nice for camping, shopping if you are near the border and we have to drive through it to get to the north of Norway (unless you have unlimited time to drive through Norway) Some of those interviewed probably have family from the other countries, that's why I might have answered the Philippines. Yes, Norwegians have apartments or houses in Spain, France, Italy, very popular if you can afford it. I did love the US :) I had a wonderful time there driving from NY to Ohio, then back through Pittsburg and all the cities from Washington to Boston via New York. I loved Canada when I visited Winnipeg once. And in New York I was a bit ill on the subway and there were people who were concerned for me and offered to help me, so very impressed.

Denmark have an EU EURO opt out and have not adopted the EURO and Denmark cannot be forced to do so, agreed and written in by the parties, however we have decided to relate, inside a self decided band, to the EURO. While I am at it. Finland have adopted the EURO. Sweden eventually have to adopt it, Sweden have not secured the possibility of an opt out, so will happen some day and this are heavily discussed politically at this time. It basically might come down to predictions. Swedish Kronor are not strong atm. but that are not same as it will strengthen over next years and the stability of joining the EURO might be preferable in a trade respect over waiting a decade or more for a marginal better lock in. Norway are not an EU nation so no EURO there. Norway are an associated "EØS" nation thus many Norwegian goods and rules follow EU´s. I am pretty sure Norway´s business regulations in export heavy sectors, are more EU aligned than, say, the old EU nation of Italy´s that are no master of ratification.

Most people I know here in Norway have actually visited the US at least once in their life, yet I feel most wouldn't put it at the top of the list of countries we love. I think the mindset is just so alien to most Norwegians, perhapd even most Europeans. Americans are very loud (Norwegians are not), materialistic, nationalistic and come across as very superficial. Visiitng the US was a great expereince. Lots of sights, great hotels, lots of kind people as well. Yet I never felt at home there. So I would second the opinion of many in the video. I much prefer countries like Denmark, Spain and Greece.

I visited Phoenix, Arizona for 3 months in 2015 and I could feel the tension in the air. A woman I got to know handed me a knife, telling me I couldn’t go around alone without a weapon to protect myself. Apparently a guy high on drugs had just invaded a home and decapitated the owners around the corner from where we lived (gated housing community). I gotta tell you I don’t really feel the itch to go back anytime soon with how things are going over there in America at the moment. Now Thailand on the other hand I can strongly recommend. They know how to be efficient when they need to and how to live in a slow pace. I love that country and its people. Land of the smiles

Imagine Peace is the name of the artwork created by Yoko Ono in collaboration with the city of Reykjavík. The words Imagine Peace are engraved in 24 different languages. And yes as a scandivian i would say its very very normal to see a ton of countries before you're 18. I went to 15 countries before i was 17. Most was to ski and the rest to do some political stuff. And no it was my mum and her friends that did the political stuff. I just cared about hanging out with the local girls.😊 Saw some cool things around Europe though. Hadrians wall in the 70s. A castle that had the round table they claimed was King Arthurs round table for his knights but yeah, it was old but who knows where it came from. Its not like all thay stuff has been verified 😅 Went round Skotland on foot as a kid too and did a lot of hitchhiking around the Loch Ness area. Went to Greenham Common to demonstrate against nuclear rockets in England in the early 80s. 82-83 or so I think. Slept up in the moutains in Basque country in Spain in 1981. Met some nice students and they took me up in a land rover to stay in a fancy telt. Met some cool girls that took me to a turkey farm. My mum had gone to Bilbao so I decided to do the girls idea... Loved the Spanish girls.. had a few crushes down there. One more than all the others. Her parents owned the local bar BAR MADRAS.. a great name to say in Danish. 😅

I think all my friends like going to Denmark, Spain and Greece, personally nothing beats a lazy little town somewhere in Greece, not that I don`t like Crete or Athens, but when I go abroad, I try to avoid the most touristy places (: I`ll go there as well, but prefer to stay in small places, eat at local tavernas, have some keftedes, souvlaki with some tzatziki and a salad, I LOVE moussaka, oh god I`m getting hungry lol 😂 Last time I went to Greece I gained almost 14lbs.. I`ve never been to Italy, but I`d love to go and find some local restaurants, and take LOTS of pictures, so much beautiful architecture in Italy, so much history too. (and I wouldn`t come in a cruise ship, those poor coastlines smh) I`d also love to visit Vietnam, Thailand and Japan, I still haven`t gone to Ireland either and a friend has friends in Dublin, so we might go not too long from now, well, probably not until spring lol. I like Sweden too, Gamla stan (the old part of town) is beautiful and *easy* to get lost in 😋 That being said, there are many places in the US I`d like to see, honestly too many to list here, lots of awesome nature and cool architecture and museums and theme parks and concerts and sports events, like drag racing and monster trucks and X Games and driving Baja bugs and the list goes on, *so* much cool stuff. But to see and do even 1/10th of what I`d like in the states, I need about 500 times the bank I have so, no dice lol. Thankfully we have huge 4K TV`s and headphones hehe, probably as close as I`ll get sadly..

You should come to visit Norway some time, Tyler. You can visit Oslo and go to Sweden one of the days, and you should then go to the west of Norway and the North. 3-4 weeks should be enough to see most of the country. Norway is a long country, ut a lot of it is just mountains and woods and fields. There's sooo many fields here. If you try to learn some Norwegian words the Swedish people will probably understand depending on how wrong it sounds, most Americans just can't do the sounds, so maybe you should learn Swedish, and the Norwegians will understand, and if you visit Oslo you will probably meet a lot of Sweds working in restaurants and hotels. If you go to Sweden just across the border a lot of Norwegians will work there in the shops at Nordby Köpcentrum. (A big shopping mall located at Svinesund in Strømstad in Sweden. Norwegians go there to buy sheap groceries and tobacco and alcohol, especially alcohol. We call it Harry handel. It was a Norwegian politician that said it was Harry to go shop in Sweden, and since then it has been in the Norwegian language and everyone knows what it means, instead of saying you're going on a daytrip to Sweden)

I have always wanted to go to America. I think since a girl in my class in 2.st grade went there and she actually had a whole class about her trip to America, she showed some pictures from Disney World and she spoke about how they had a car race on the highway. I didn't understand how that was possible until they built a 4 lane motorway here when I was grown up, cause in my head you would crash into someone else and it sounded dangerous to me. I always played with my Barbies as a kid and I just wanted to go to where Barbie came from. I still would love to go there but maybe some other states and for other reasons than Barbie. I think the reason for those people not mentioning America is not because they don't want to go there or anything, but that it's so far away and it cost more money, so it's probably the same as you not going outside America because it's all there, we have everything in Europe and it's just a few hours to fly there or you can even go by boat and a car. People say that if you flip Norway upside down you would land in Italy, I don't know if it's just a myth or true. I now some people that goes to America all the time, and they have been there at least 20 times, other people I know have been there also more than one time, and I also know people who currently live there and people who lived there for years and liked it very much, ut had to come back to Norway when they got old and I'll. I haven't been much outside of Norway, but I also prefer Denmark and Sweden. I've been to England on a language summer school for three weeks when I was 17, and I liked it very much except I got sick and have been sick since then. I've also been to Germany and Prague and France. I don't speak a lot of other languages, but I can understand and speak some Swedish and understand Danish (not all of it), and I learned German in school, but I don't think I would be able to have a conversation, but I understand some words and can figure out the meaning, maybe. I think I could just speak English, even if I don't speak English very well, I think most people would understand what I say. My English was much better when I was in England for three weeks and had to speak English on a daily basis, and in the school we wasn't aloud to speak Norwegian. One day I had forgot the key and couldn't get in and I started to have a nose bleed, but this neighbor lady took care of me until the lady in the house I lived in came home from work. It was very embarrassing though. I was very shy and didn't have the guts to speak to any of the other neighbors, and they weren't very friendly either, but maybe they thought I had been in a fight since I was sitting there with my nose bleed. I just had a severe allergy that I didn't know about, but the lady I lived with took me to see her doctor so I got medicine and was much better from the allergy, but it was just a few days before I was going back home. I would love to go back to other places in France, I went to Paris, but I want to see more of the other places along the coast. I'm to sick to go, so it probably won't happen, but it's still a dream, and no one can take the dreams away. I would love to go shopping in America too, not having to explain what 12"x12" paper means, and to be able to get products you can't get here, and to buy clothes and bags from brands that is to expensive here.

Tyler, you are so invested in Norway, also our history (and having studied and worked in the US for 10 yrs I find your videos quite entertaining). However, why not get a better understanding of our past and watch the video *_"Why did Sweden-Norway Collapse?"_* from Knowledgia. It's quite informative.

Norwegian here who has been to 30 countries, among them USA. I am not surprised the most common responses are Denmark and Italy, I would probably answer one of them myself, joined by the UK in third place. I believe the reason why you don't hear many say America is their favorite country has to do with American politics and politicians. That topic makes it so "uncool" to answer America to this question that I believe some wont admit USA is their favorite country to visit (even if it is). Americans in general is another matter. I believe that most Norwegian has nothing against Americans in general and actually love to welcome them here as visitors. I also personally know several Norwegians who goes to Florida or NYC over and over so some Norwegians definetly has USA as their favorite country to visit. Also keep in mind that just because one country is someones favorite doesn't mean that that person doesn't like other countries. I really enjoyed my visits to USA and I am planning to visit again. I haven't yet visited a country I totally disliked, all countries have good and less good qualities. So why Denmark? It barely feels abroad because Norwegians and Danes are like brothers. We understand each others languages and even were under common rule for 400 years and thus have similar cultures. However Denmark has a lot of the things Norway lacks and vice versa. I really like danish food, drink, design and the general relaxed atmosphere there. Copenhagen rivals London as my favorite city (other than Bergen of course). So why Italy? Italy has everything: beaches, sunshine, apls, snow, some of the best food and wine on the planet, history, the coolest cars, fast trains, incredible cities and breathtaking scenery. What is not to like? Why the UK? I don't know, I just always have a great time there! As you say European countries are small in size and it is pretty easy for most of us living here to boost the number of visited countries quite easy compared to a person living in North America. That makes the comparison a bit unfair I think. I think it is more accurate to say I have been to 29 countries and 6 US States than I have been to 30 countries.

Hi Tyler, I am a Norwegian. My dad was American, born in DC. I have loved the US for many years and have worked in several US states. I have visited at least 30 states. Now, we are really scared about US politics and what is going to happen in the near and distant future. I drive a Tesla and have a new bumper sticker that says, "Sorry, I didn't know Elon Musk when I bought it." I like and visit southern European countries and Sweden.

You looked a bit confused when the man stood next to a tiger statue in Oslo and said "Tigerstaden". Similar to that New York is referred to as 'The Big Apple', and Italy is shaped like a boot, an unofficial name for Oslo exists. Tigerstaden = The Tiger City = Oslo = Christiania (The Danish name for Oslo when Norway was under Danish rule) The reason why Oslo is also called 'The Tiger City', is because Norway together with Sweden (they were once in a union) on a map resembles a tiger, and between the tiger's jaws lies Oslo.

There indeed does exist people in Norway who love visiting the US, but it's often simpler to say a country closer to you, or like in this case, pick up on the Danish accent of the interviewer and say Denmark.

Among the candidates for my favorite country we have: Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, Finland and the US. It's more of a vibes-based question, so my answer may vary based on what I choose to weight the most at any given moment. The US does a lot of the world's innovation, which I do admire. In one sense the US could be thought of as a "the capital of the west", but maybe that also contributes towards less people listing it as a favorite country (similar to how maybe most people would list a different city than Oslo as their favorite city in Norway).

Not uncommon for Norwegians to have an apartment in Spain but it’s not a normality either. Used to be a lot of time share apartments which basically mean you have to share it with one or two families. They would have to make an agreement on who is going when.

It is quite obvious that the interviewer is Danish. I think someone said Denmark just because of that. On average Norwegians probably travel the most to the southern European countries for vacation, like Spain, Greece, Portugal and Cyprus. But we might often go on weekend trips to Copenhagen or Stockholm. Or cities in the UK or Germany.

If you have had any interactions with the people from the other scandinavian countries you usually learn the language rather quickly, all of em are fairly similar and with just a bit of application its easy to learn how to understand both danish and swedish as a norwegian. Danish is easier in written form while swedish is easier spoken.

Why nobody wanna go to America? I think mostly it's cause it's very expensive to travel there. Not to mention there's and endless form of questionnaires you have to fill out. "Are you a terrorist? Do you have any plans on attacking the US while you are here?" etc. Europe is much closer to Norway.Less time spent traveling. Equal more vacay time.

Like you are saying with your own word. We are just having friendly rivalry. As an Norwegian it's very easy for us too understand Swedish or Danish, but they struggle too understand us. Most likely because we have seen few episodes from different tv shows from their countries and we have been travel too these countries more then they have because it's been cheaper for norwegians till last few years and most likely they haven't seen movies from Norway that much. It's only been last few years Norway has been good at making movies. And it's a reason United States ain't pointed out so much. It's too much homeless, and the streets don't feel safe for us norwegians. Remember here can we have the kids alone in the streets, but couldn't do that in United States and with that and all of the crimes we are seeing in United States, it's crazy too me that someone actually wan't travel too United States when you can find so many other safe countries. And too completely honest i'm not seeing United States too be attractive at all. The landscape looks horrible for the most part. And most of us has either one family cabin in norway or outside Norway like Spain are popular because the winter we have in Norway. So alot of people need to get out of that some times.

Norway has been under both Swedish and Danish rule, so this is why the Norwegian language has been influenced by both Danish and Swedish, and it is also why Norwegian children have to learn two Norwegian languages in school (Bokmål - which is influenced by Danish and Swedish, and Nynorsk, which is traditional Norwegian). Danes and Swedes do not understand one another easily. Additionally, 'Samisk' is an additional language that northern Norwegian's, called 'Samer', learns, and that is related to Finnish, and it is nothing like Norwegian. In elementary school, Norwegians learn to read Swedish and Danish texts, and to speak two Norwegian languages. Norwegians learn in school: Bokmål, Nynorsk, Swedish, Danish, English An optional language (valgfag), which is normally a choice between German or French. In northern Norway they can choose to learn Russian as 'valgfag in some schools. By the completion of elementary school, Norwegian 16 year olds have learned at least 6 languages. (For Samer it is 7) In High school, many Norwegians switch from German to French, or vice versa, and that constitutes a 7th language. For Samer that number is 8. Then you have the large Norwegian colony in Spain, Alicante, where they teach the kids Spanish. Norwegians also have a tendency to take a language course before they go to a country, especially if it is in a country where they have vacation homes, so it is not uncommon for a Norwegian to speak or at least somewhat understand 8-10 languages before they are adults.

Norwegian here. I lived in the US for a year (high school exchange) and have been back many times. However, the America I knew 15 years ago is not the America we see today. Things have really gone drastically downhill. I generally think Norwegians would be more likely to mention the US in answer to this question 10-20 years ago. For me, America doesn’t even make my top 40 anymore. There are so many countries I’d rather visit.

I have a 20min drive and 2 hours flight and im there. So in 3-4 hours i can have a cold beer at the beach in spain or eat in a fancy restaurant in paris. And i have a 2 hour drive to Sweden. And i Think its more cool places in Europe than the US. I would not say no to a 3 week vacation in Hawaii

First I wanna say that I love going to America 🙌🏻 I have family in CA and Texas. 1. The U.S is very far away, which then means that when we go there, we go for a long time, not just a week. This ofc, is very expensive and not something everyone can afford tbh. Gotta save money for a long time. 2. Donald Trump. We hate him 😆😅 and I think we are quite shocked that so many Americans voted for him yet again. I know a lot of ppl think Americans are stupid and "fake nice" 😅 3. Your political and healthcare system sucks. I know you agree with that 👍🏻 The positives about the U.S is that is really is a great country to visit, I love it and would perhaps say America in this video! But only to visit, living there is not an option, going back to the whole political and healthcare stuff. I love a lot of the people and I love that you have so much to choose from - you have great summers, some places have winters, your spring is lovely as well as the early fall 🙌🏻 And most of all - you have awesome shops - we REALLY dont 😂
