if you want a proper *Full English Breakfast* use these ingredients Fried Egg, Baked Beans, Mushrooms, Black Pudding, Sausages, Back Bacon, tinned Plum Tomatoes and Toast (or Fried Bread, my favourite)

If anyone's dissing UK food, they're well out of date. 1940s through to early 1960s the food was limited due to rationing.

Hi, Tysheen, Off-topic but I think you should like this, when France is celebrating D-Day's 80th Anniversary: "The 'Frenchies' of World War II: Cajun Louisianan war hero shares his story" • FRANCE 24 English Or, romantic you should appreciate this: "75 years later, D-Day veteran meets long-lost French love • FRANCE 24 English" Back on the topic of British food, it definitely is nice but I've always wondered "don't baked beans make people fart excessively?"

My father was a Yorkshire man who married a Canadian. I grew up eating all of those dishes, except sticky toffee pudding. That was something I discovered as an adult living in Australia. The Aussies call it sticky date pudding, and it is truly decadent. A full English breakfast is for individuals who work in hard physical jobs, and will fuel them through the day.

Sticky toffee pudding - never tried it. Lancashire hotpot - isn't this a casserole? Crumpets you can buy here in Australia but I never eat them. Steak & Kidney pie sounds very British to me; I will happily eat Steak & black pepper pie. You can get heaps of pie fillings down here. Love a roast any day of the week; don't have to wait for Sunday! Baked beans on toast - yes for an easy way to make dinner! Loved black pudding unless it is overcooked but haven't had it in a long time now. love Fish & chips especially when by the beach, river or lake.

Don't like sticky toffee pudding! - good if fancy a diabetic coma. Substitute peas with baked beans in sausage and mash!

No one ever calls Sticky Toffee Pudding STP, ever. A full English is more of a treat, if you ate it every day you'd have a heart attack! Most people have cereal, toast and tea or coffee and some have no breakfast at all. You're the only person who doesn't like peas, you're Grandma was right! People who say our food is bland have never been here, or they're French! You'll love a curry here!

Chips and fries are somewhat different, fries are thin chips you find like in McDonald's, chips are thicker than fries.

The people who make fun of British food don't understand it. Its about the taste of the ingredients individually and as a whole and not to be smothered in cheese or spices. I've eaten everything from fine french to Eastern European foods and lots of Asian, each one has it's pros and cons, but one dish that never fails to satisfy is a well done home cooked Sunday roast, I would take it over any dish offered to me.

During the 1030’s we were struggling, we’d just come out of WWi, we hadn’t recovered fully. Ther were food shortages. In 1939 because of how Germany was invading many countries our government gave Germany an ultimatum, stop your invasions of European states or a state of war would exist. It happened, suddenly we were at war again. The German Navy attacked our supply routes, we were short of everything, especially food. Food became rationed, you were only allowed certain size portions of everything. When the US joined the war, and we got ready for D-Day many GI’s came here. They found our ration food bland, our beer war (no refrigeration) and there was little of it. That gave us the reputation of bland and poor food. If you came here you would find our food is good and better than the US, certain additives are banned by law, soda’s that have sugar are taxed. I live in a group of two villages in South Wales, we have 4 fish & chip shops, 4 coffee bars, 3 cafes, 4 bars that sell cooked meals, 2 Chinese restaurants, 3 Indian restaurants & 1 Vietnamese restaurant and plenty more within 4 miles. Years ago when we were really poor and you killed you only pig or cow you had to prepare the meat for the family, or you sold it. What to do with the “nasty” bits, you can’t afford to throw it away you use it. Pigs blood with spices and oats became Black Pudding, offal became pie filling, or sausages or spicy meatballs we call faggots. Eat or starve!

Hmmm, there is no doubt that there was food shortage in the UK during the war. But wasn't that the case in the whole of occupied Europe? My mom told me of some people eating cats in order not to starve!
@Peterraymond674 ай бұрын
@@micade2518 Yes, I realise that the rest of Europe suffered food shortage. I was responding on why the UK has become a food dessert in the way US citizen sees us in the UK.

@@Peterraymond67 Really, do we, Europeans, need to take any notice of our American friends's advice in the matter of food? :o) When I - a Continental - was living in London - at a charming couple of Londoner's home, I actually appreciated the food: it was plain but, without the spices I was used to, I "discovered" the true taste of vegetables. The only downside was the overcooked meat (to my taste). I wonder if the Americans' tastebuds are so different from the Europeans' as they can't help but douse their "food" in tons of sugar or spicy hot stuff ...
@jules.84434 ай бұрын
Considering American food is full of fats, sugar & rubbish, it's not surprising ours is considered to be bland. An American actually said their bread is so full of sugar, it's like eating cake.

What! No curry? Not just take away, very popular home cooked too.

Britain got a reputation for bad food because of WW2. People would visit the UK after the war, when we were still getting back on our feet. Rationing was a thing until 1954, and good ingredients were in short supply. The food was bad then and the stereotype stuck. Today we are the country with the 7th most Michelin Stars, not bad for such a little country.

Personally I like Steak and Kidney, especally with Lambs kidney. These days I doubt Steak & Kidney pies or puddings are anywhere near the British top ten, it's more likely to be Steak & Ale or Chicken & Mushroom pie today?

A lot of British food is* good. It’s like America, a melting pot, why we got pizza, falafel, Asian noodles or even fusion food places. 👍 Tysheen, IKWYM… I love beans and toast and dislike green peas gamey meat like kidney/liver. My gramps on my mom’s side are Roma, and we’d often have stuff like “fresh roadkill goulash &/or curry”. 😅 Fish n’ chips sound good right now…. Anyways peace be with you sister.

The low down on British and American food from a Brit Living in America..... American produce is tasteless, I don't know the reason for this, I'm presuming they are picked to early or something, the dairy in America also sucks and is relatively tasteless. So Americans have learnt how to cook good food using shitty produce but that involves a crap ton of seasoning. In Britain the produce tastes really good and the dairy is phenomenal so they don't need to put a crap ton of seasoning on the food, they add just enough to enhance the flavour of the ingredients. In short.... American food tastes like the seasoning and British food tastes like the ingredients. The British pallet in general is a lot more sensitive than the American pallet When I first moved to America I struggled to eat the food because of the amount of salt and sugar they put in everything and the over use of herbs and spices. Not slating Americans, they make some pretty awesome food considering the poor quality of ingredients they are stuck using.

If you were given a steak and kidney pie and told it was steak and veg, many probably wouldn't even notice, the kidneys don't have much taste, just a cheap filler.

The fish and chips in that video were not proper fish and chips, looked more like a pubs attempt at fish and chips, not a good choice when you have a fish n chip shop down the road.

It should be understood this video is showcasing British food; therefore, it is not including fare from other countries that may be found in the UK. British food is known for the most unhealthy cuisine in the world with the exception of the United States; This is why the reputation of their food is bad.
