Hi, I'm from Italy (Apulia) and I can say that the Mediterranean is effectively warmer than Oceans in general, but it's not "hot water" because it is a big Sea, despite being a closed sea. Regarding Polignano a Mare, young boys usually do diving competitions jumping from the city to the sea (in specific point), but you can't go under inside the cliffs because there are no tunnels. Yes, the gladiator's scenes in Elysium were set in Tuscany, but San Gimignano's towers are not watchtowers. They were built from San Gimignano's Medieval Aristocracy as status simbols of their family's wealth and power. Another Italian city with towers like San Gimignano is Bologna, that had the tallest monument in Europe built before the Eiffel Tower. It is the Torre degli Asinelli, it's medieval and it's quite 97 meters, alias 319 feet (actually, is taller than the Liberty Statue).

Hey. I'm English (both parents English) but was raised and educated in Spain from the age of 2. I still prefer holidays in Italy, I've spent a lot of time in Italy. The video is good, but there is so much more to Italy than shown, Umbria is a region I would highly recommend, very similar to Tuscany but less spoilt by tourism. The Gran Sasso is spectacular, which is a region in the Apennines mountain rage that runs down the spine of Italy. Every region in Italy has something to offer and of course the food is amazing!!!!!

Italy is of course endlessly interesting, with objects and remnants from every age. North-west of Rome there are for example places with interesting Etruscan burial chambers, some with the most beautiful paintings illustrating feasting in the after-life! Look up Cerveteri and Tarquinia. Orvieto is also a unique little place, a town/village on the flat top of a hill with vertical sides, sort of sticking up from the flat land around it. Quite close to Rome there are several villages, Frascati and the Albanian hills with two lakes, lovely place in summer. A little inland is the one and only original Tivoli, with a large garden constructed in the Renaissance for Cardinal d'Este, with running water everywhere (and of course sculptures). You can drive into Rome on the Via Appia, it still holds up today as in antiquity.

Let me assure you, that it's only a little part of italian beauties. Out to turistics ways, however so much stuff (Roma, Venezia, Firenze, Napoli, Verona, Palermo, Milano, Torino, and so muche more), there are incredible attraction. Thousands of little cities or villages, in every part of italy, with art, culture, entertainment and wonderful natural landscapes. Take a car and go ahead, in any direction, and you will find something special. Not to mention the food, in every region there are traditional local specialities, one better than the other...

Hi , we rented a bungalow first time in Italy just south of Rome ant it was from the second week of June and was a little surprised how cool the water in the Mediterranean was. Back in Sweden we got tips to go in september instead when the sun warmed up the Mediterranean throughout the summer , so we did and the difference was gigantic not only watertemperature but also in the air , after flying from Stockholm " takes around two hours to Rome " when autumn begins to be felt in Sweden and lands in Rome , it is hardly possible to breathe from the heat in Italy you encounter when you leave the plane . Now after the pandemic we will return for the sixth time . Same experience from the times we visited Greece. We usually call Italy our second homeland because if you place a needle at the far south of Sweden , turn the whole country so that north becomes south , we end up in Rome.

I must say I really like this top10 for being less sterotipical and being a good sample across all the variety that Italy has to offer. At the same time a top10 Italian places to visit excluding places no less than Venice and Siena (just to name a couple from the top of my head) made me think that it would be very interesting to compare with other countries, put aside the top10s and focusing on entries let's say from 11 to 20 (or maybe from 11 to 50) and see what each country has to offer "in the long run". I guess Italy would have a remarkably "solid" and assorted long bench very few can contend with.

THE COLOSSEUM in Rome is known as The Flavian Amphitheatre because it was built by the emperor Vespasian from the Flavian family.
@samuele7098
@samuele7098 Жыл бұрын
it's actually the other way around: its real name is flavian amphitheatre and colosseum is just a nickname it gained later on because of its proximity to a colossal statue of Nero. That's why there are no other colosseums in the world: the type of building is called amphitheatre, of which there are still a lot.

To answer your question at 5:20 , yes, lake of Como had a glacial formation like in parts of Scandinavia as you mentioned since the lake is on the doorstep of the alps. If anyone comes around here a boat trip around the lake is a must to experiences it in all it’s beauty 😊
@bedetti3
@bedetti3 Жыл бұрын
Yes the lake had a glacial formation but also a fluvial one, the origin of the lake is still debated. The most probable hypothesis is that the origin of the lake was caused by deep river excavations reshaped by repeated glacial erosions in the last two million years. The atypical origin of the lake allows it to be te deepest one in Italy and the fifth in Europe; at its deepest it's 412 m. I'm fortunate enough to live near it, and yes it is beautiful.

Connor at about 11:20: "... the technology they had" - - - Has anybody mentioned that the church of San Clemente in Rome is worth visiting? It is within easy walking distance of the Colosseum. Irish monks have the care of it. Under the present church are the remnants of an earlier church, down under that even older layers, with a Mithraeum with a fine, carved altar to the god Mithras, especially worshipped by soldiers in antiquity and on (actually, there is a Mithraeum in London too), and remnants of Roman houses even, about 20 meters down, I think. And down through all the layers, there is an air shaft leading down to Cloaca Maxima, which runs below, it has served Rome for over 2000 years and still serves the Roman sewerage system. - Takes us down a peg or two to realise that those engineers and architects were up to it. Look at the dome of The Pantheon (Rome still), which is from antiquity - it was no mean feat to construct it so that it did not fall down. From Wikipedia: "Almost two thousand years after it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome." It was studied not least when the great buildings were constructed in Florence in the Renaissance. On Capitol in Rome, look at the beautiful buildings of Michelangelo functioning as town planner in the Renaissance; he was active in the building of Palazzo Farnese too, close to the river (the Tevere). The French Embassy has it now, but the inside can for instance be seen in a film of Puccini's opera Tosca (recorded in 1976, with Kabaivanska, Domingo, Milnes). The filming was done in the 3 real places in Rome where the action takes place.

to answer some questions: Yes, Lake Como originated from a glacier, and no, the Mediterranean Sea is not at a constant temperature, one thing you may not understand is that the Mediterranean Sea is so large, therefore it obviously has its own currents, where I live (in the Adriatic precisely, therefore a "closed" sea, to the right of Italy to make you understand, so it may be that the temperatures are higher, plus, my city is in a gulf within a gulf lol)) it fluctuates between 10 degrees on average in winter and about 24 degrees in summer.

A particular thing in the Dolomites and in general throughout the Alps, if you look closely there are crosses on the tops of the mountains, in ancient times it was thought that avalanches, falling rocks, and therefore also the sudden burial of mountain paths were caused by demons who lived at the top. So it was thought to build these crosses at the top to let the demons escape and prevent them from causing mischief and bringing death. Another wonderful thing about the Dolomites are the trenches and defense valleys throughout the Alps built during the WWI, still present and often in perfect condition and can be visited, especially in the north-eastern part on the border with Austria. At time 04:50 you can see one of this cross.

mediterreanean sea is pretty warm in the summer season especially from july to october (in june it still needs to get warmed a little) but you can go and bath no problem from may (in the south of italy) to october. this year, because of the extreme heat, you can bath from april to now as we still have temperatures above 25c in the south of italy. in the winter the water temp goes down though so i would not reccomend. in august and july water temperature can hit 25-30c .... depending on many factors...

The Mediterranean Sea never gets too much cold, but in January, February and March the minimum is under 10 °C, so it's not exactly warm. But in Summer and in subsequent months the maximums can reach 28-29 °C, especially in Sicily, Tunisia and Greece. Lately it's becoming warmer and warmer, and it's not a good thing...

Great video you reacted to ... but Venice should definitely be on any Italy top ten, in fact in any Europe top ten. Italy is an amazing country, so much to see - natural sights, historical sights, cities, towns, villages. I've been to Italy many times in the past 5 years (I live in Poland, so it's easy and cheap to fly there), including for Italian language courses in Venice and elsewhere.

answering to the mediterranien temperature: the norther you are, the more it fluctuates, but in general is considered a warm sea. if you go near the tropics, like the african coasts, or some southern greek islands, the temperature will be around 30°C all year. I wouldn't say it's warm when it comes to genova or venezia (northen italy)

Connor, due to your comment about the roads! I thought I'd offer up a lifesaving tip.. if you are, ever in a vehicle with no breaks! Quick thinking is a must remember to put the vehicle in reverse gear! Aim the vehicle towards fixed solid objects like trees and deliberately ( kiss ) or side swipe the objects do not hit any object head on. Unless your left with no choice.

as a sardinian, im kind of disappointed by the way my island is preceived most of the times. yeah our beaches are mesmerizing, but there is SO MUCH MORE here. for starter, Sardinia is a micro-continent: from deserts to forests, there is all kind of endemic flora and fauna here. plus its a land full of misteries. our ancient history is a giant question mark for everybody. the island is literally covered by old ruins nobody is sure what they were for. the nuraghi, saint christina's well, the giants tombs, the domus de janas (houses of the witches), the thousands of monoliths scattered across the place: its a mess we're still figuring out XD. so definetely come visit us and enjoy our beaches, just keep in mind there is A LOT more around here ;)
