I have been down the Kiruna mine to level 2 by a tourist coach. There are 5 levels and i think they said there was about 500 kms of roads in the mine. Amazing experience. There was also a museum and cafe down there for us tourist and a cinema for showing the history of the mine.

As I understand it, Moon was formed mostly of crust materials. When the giant balls of magma settle the heavier elements fall towards center and the crust is formed of the lighter elements. So Moon will probably be quite poor on more interesting stuff. We can find those heavy elements in Earth crust mainly because of continental drift and volcanic recicling of material.
@mikaeljohansson10111 ай бұрын
While I do agree with the points you're making, I wouldn't necessarily say that the 'Moon is poor on more interesting stuff'. There is, for example, plenty of evidence to suggest that the lunar surface is rich in helium-3, an isotope which could play a crucial role in the development of our future energy grids and perhaps even in future manned expeditions to distant planets.
@michaelmay545311 ай бұрын
@@mikaeljohansson101 I would say that helium-3 is one of those elements that the moon doesn't have all that much of. Jupiter has about a billion times the helium-3 in comparison with the moon but we might actually need the He3 we can get from the moon to start an efficient way to get to Jupiter in the first place. So ... I guess we agree but are having different ideas of usage here. Which is interesting all in itself.

@@user-lv6rn9cf8m That is a claim that I find absolutely no evidence for. Getting a vehicle up there is easy enough but to mine and bring shit back... As in not rando on the internet sure but a conglomerate of scientists agreeing sure.
@robertheinrich299411 ай бұрын
that's actually quite wrong. it's not just "the heavy metals, that went down to the earths core, it is specifically metals that were soluble in molten iron,(siderophile). so the mare are extremely rich in titanium and magnesium, and then there are special deposits, where materials that were left over came together (bluntly described), those deposits are KREEP. potassium, rare earth elements, phosphor. furthermore of course there were millions of asteroids that impacted the moon, bringing a lot of other elements back. actually, the moon is depleted of hydrogen, carbon and nitrogen, that makes using the moon for humans quite hard. but possible.

Just recently new rare earths were found from Finland as well. To my understanding Finland has a huge storage of mineral/soil samples from all around the country and a lot of them haven't been analyzed (there are just too many samples). The discovery was made from those samples. Tbh I think Norway, Sweden and Finland have a lot of untapped potential when it comes to resources. So much to discover. The solid bedrock close to the surface might a be blessing. Until the Balrogs come out flying of course.

The history of the semiconductor industry is insanely fascinating. The youtube channel asianometry has a ton of videos about it. Basically the semiconductor industry has a history of being a political tool and being viewed as the best way to bootstrap an emerging economy into an advanced economy. With semiconductors being the key to advanced electronics every nation on Earth wanted their own semiconductor industry. For a long list of reason Taiwan's semiconductor industry survived, outlasted and out competed almost all competitors, much of it was down to globalism and market forces though, and with globalism losing favor in recent years it is threatening the Taiwanese continued dominance as various nations are looking to restart their own industries in case of geopolitical issues. For Taiwan the semiconductor industry is both a source of huge amounts of profit and even more importantly a source of security. As long as Taiwan is the most vital supplier of advanced electronics components in the world it is in everyone's interest to keep Taiwan safe and independent from Chinese control.

So yes if this is even mildly successful it will mean Sweden as a country will be even richer than it is to day. This will also be very handy for the Swedish giga-factory for batteries kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHjboGVth953otE

Yeah, that isn't true at all. Sweden has had projects with a reach of 150-200 years into the future for a couple of centuries now. Not all of them pan out and some of them were downright evil. Taiwan was late to the game and still came out ahead because they are NOT planning ahead, it's a fast moving system that shifts everything from the way people live to land confiscation and using low wage labour by external interests. Those that do not fit the mould are cast out. The west was like that up until the 70's but we have moved away from that line of thinking and are now exploiting nations like Taiwan to do it instead.

The Swedish model or Scandinavian model is that state are the citizens and citizens the state, many say it but are just words, Scandinavia act upon it. Other models pursue wealth via one or two of the three pillars, they are politics, business and workers ( unions in Sweden's case from the begining ), I'll add royal house rulers and absolute rulers under politics. Nearly all nations leave out the third in how the nation is run, the Swedish model uses all three equally for the benefit of the state, remember the state are the citizens and ALL citizens are equal, not the American equal but equal. America and UK as an example leave out the third, Communism leaves out the second, royal houses/absolute rulers leave out two and three, think Saudi Arabia or Kim jung un. Using all three is the Swedish model. Statoil or Norwegian oil is owned by the people and run by the state which is the people :) I have always said the Swedish model is more communist than any state that has existed so far. Sorry if that is a little simplistic yet complicated in how it is written. Lastly Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, you too Iceland are meritocracies and try to stop anything that can corrupt in your you from not being fulfilled, meaning Dad's money, area born or basic school attended. Keep learning as knowledge is king.

The reason why Taiwan got so into semiconductors is really interesting, you perhaps should do a video about it. Basically it was a strategy to get the US dependent on them and thus wanting to ensure their safety. The founder of the main Taiwanese company TSMC thinks it's madness that they're opening a plant in Arizona for that very reason - the US will become less dependent on Taiwan as a country. Johnny Harris made a quite good video about it titled "USA vs China, The War You Can't See"

It is not like "cutting down trees to build a house". The Sapmi people herd reindeers and that is a protected business. The reindeers need to migrate and the harse environment require them to move through many different biotopes in a year cycle in order to stay alive. To block one of the migration paths would not only threaten the reindeer but the Sapmi people's way of life as well. Sweden has historically been quite nasty to the Sapmi people so it is a sensitive topic to build a huge mine which will probably destroy their culture.
