Why is everyone so negative, the current method for fixing potholes dosen't work. So any innovation in this area even if it dosen't work like y'all want it's still good that they're working on it. Also for y'all who commented before finishing the video the only thing patch does is seal the hole. I don't think a lot of the people in the comments understand the materials being used or the purpose. The mat is most likely a tar and asphalt layer that adheres to the surface and allows rainwater to run off the road instead of into the cracks around the filled in hole, preventing it from eroding again. its not like a snow-plow its going to scoop it up or anything.

I am with American Road Patch and we have tested this product in the extreme northern climates. What I can tell you is that as long as you install it properly it will perform. We have had snow plows come over the product shortly after installation and there was no damage. The key is if you are putting it down in cold weather, below 75 degree ambient temps, you need to torch the pavement or concrete its going over to 200 degrees. If you do that it will work. We've had patches that were applied 5 years ago that are still performing.
@americanroadpatch16815 жыл бұрын
Actually the material is extremely tough. The tensile strength is very high and we have not had any instances of the product tearing. The snowplows are certainly challeging but we've had product installed in many areas that are exposed to snow plows and we've not had any issues to date. Thanks for your comment.

What are ppl complaining about? They’re already patching it normally before putting the patch on. It’s literally just adding protection to a normal patch.
@mcearl80735 жыл бұрын
Kermit I know. The fucking KZbin “experts” are really annoying. This seems a hell of a lot better thanks shoveling some asphalt in the hole and calling it a day. Another guy is saying “repaving is the better way”. Well no shit ya fuck, but municipalities don’t replace entire streets every time they get a pothole, most wont even fix them till they are really bad. This shouldn’t be compared to re-paving, it needs compared to the traditional repair which don’t generally last. If this lasts longer than just filling it in and it only takes a few extra minutes then that’s a good product.
@ThisTall5 жыл бұрын
Mc Earl exactly, unless I’m misunderstanding something they’re already filling it normally before they cover it....protecting the fill from getting worked out. But they’re complaining it’s a bandaid or short cut lol it’s literally the exact same thing they’d normally do.... plus more.
@mcearl80735 жыл бұрын
Kermit Yea Exactly. I don’t get all the complaining about it. Another guy said this is just being lazy. Lol. It has nothing to do with being lazy. It has everything to do with municipal budgets. No city or township or state is repaving every road as soon as it gets a pothole and they do, there’s no way they’d have the resources to do that and it would be a massive ordeal to shut down roads that often. I’m no road expert but this seems like a pretty good plan to make a normal quick repair last a fair amount longer and should only take a few extra minutes and only cost a little more which I’d think should save money and manpower over time. Maybe even freeing up enough budget to repave some roads more often. I’m also unsure of why people think these won’t hold up to plow trucks in the north east. If the edges are tamped down good enough there shouldn’t be much of a lip at all to get snagged by a plow and if something somehow does cause it to lift and be plowed off then the hole is still filled in and will last a while longer. It’s not like a normal fill job is impervious to plows either, once they get water in them and it freezes it just pushes them up a bit to get plowed right up. With the patch over it it should keep water out but even if ground water or something got in it if it pushes the fill up the patch will flex with it and it shouldn’t create any gaps or anything to catch the edge.
@DoomWar15 жыл бұрын
I think we need, or everyone for that matter, to stop scrolling down lol the youtube 'experts' claim years and years in the field and what not. It's comical actually.
@jaycustom215 жыл бұрын
I know. Calling it a bandaid, lazy, just roofing material...etc. It's the traditional way of filling a pothole, plus an extra layer of water proof material to keep the patch from washing out or bulging outward. I guess all these fuckin idiots want all the streets in there towns to be constantly closed because they are repaving the whole street to fix 2 potholes lol

It needs to be tested under various conditions. If I saw positive test results from an impartial party, then I would feel comfortable using it. If I were selling that system and I were confident in it, considering it's cheap and the customers are big, I would give some free samples.

What if a guy applies tight brackes (drifts) on it wouldn't it peel off..?

That might work in Alabama and in states that don't get snow, but as soon as a plow comes by, that road patch is history.

I don't understand the hate for this in the comments. They are voicing real concerns with fixing potholes. I don't think you idiots understand how long it takes and how expensive it is to redo an entire stretch of road just for one large crack in the side. This solution seems to be pretty effective and as an added bonus its not very expensive. Roads are hard and expensive to maintain. Your tax dollars don't need to be hemorrhaged just because you want a nice new road whenever you see a pothole in an older one.

Draknight none of what you just said has anything to do with what I wrote. I was calling out the people below. And the video does clearly state that liquid asphalt is a temporary solution that must be reapplied after its been worn down. Makes sense to me. Any patch no matter what kind will not last especially since contrete like to expand and contract due to things like water and temperature. That why bridges arent usually solid pieces. They are built with expansion joints. This product seems to work in tandem with traditional methods in order to expand their longevity.
