Welcome to South America! First I'd like to apologize for the zoomed in footage. This was my first time using my new GoPro 11 and I had no idea what I was doing. I filmed the next few videos like this as well before switching to wide angle. This part of the world is completely new to me and it is a dream come true to be here. Ecuador is considered one of the most diverse countries in the world. Although it is quite small in size compared to it's neighbors, it is home to various different landscapes as well as some of the rarest ethnic groups in the world. In this video I leave Quito to step into my element by visiting an indigenous town in the countryside. I chat with the locals in broken Spanish, try new street food, and wonder the streets of Otavalo aimlessly in anticipation tomorrow's big street market! 🇪🇨

Oh Kiddo, get out of Quito and come North. You will breath better in Otavalo, Cotacachi and Ibarra. I moved here 12 years ago from Fort Lauderdale and can think of no reason to return to the U.S. These people are the nicest in the World. On our cell phone Google bus stations as there are plenty. The suggestion of the tea is good and most markets and pharmacies have it. Lots of U.S. expats in Cotacachi which is the town next to Otavalo. You want Carcelen-Quito Norte Bus station with buses going north. I have traveled the World on my own and I always carry a map and make myself familiar with the towns. I also read the main newspapers, so I know what is going on.

Your spanish is getting a lot better over-time and the best way to learn is by having conversations with the locals. I guess the high-altitude is a thing to get used to for your lungs. In a couple weeks, you will get used to it. I'm a bit jealous about that meat and vegetable skewer as it looked fantastic to eat. Thanks for having the courage to learn a new language and to travel to awesome places in America.

Thanks for watching and for your support! The pinchos were something I started eating often after this and even more so in Peru, called anticuchos there. Quick hot snack with a nice variety and always the juiciest meat!

We loved our visits to Otavalo!! You are doing much better than I could with understanding the Spanish. It was so fast. Did you get hit up with the coca leaves and tea? That helped big time with the altitude sickness.

This was back in June just before the presidential candidate was assassinated. I was in Cuenca at that time and couldn't believe the news. Still, I enjoyed Ecuador very much. Very lovely people, culture, and landscapes! Thanks so much for watching and plenty more adventures to come from your beautiful country!

I visited Ecuador in 2011. For three weeks I traveled all over the country. I had a hard time adjusting back then but today if I went I think I would do better. Sadly, with the crime and violence going on it's not a place I would visit right now. I hope you stay safe.

I think it's mainly around Guayaquil and the northern coasts and of course parts of Quito. I am not too sure though with all of the recent news. I felt completely safe traveling through the Ecuadorian Andes. Thanks for watching!
