As someone that joined the livgardet (sadly hurt my knee during basic training so had to quit.) I love this song so much, but ever since this song came out. All my friends in the royal guard havent shut up about it :D About Sabaton being uninvited, while I do find it sad that politics got invovled, I can also understand why. The swedish military is part of our political government, and Sabaton got uninvited after they had a show in Crimea after Russia took it over. While that might not sound bad, as we all know in todays modern world, one bad PR move and suddenly everything goes to hell :P Ofcourse, among the military of Sweden, Sabaton is probably one of the most popular bands :D

@@brigidtheirish The Swedish government cares, they oficially condemn the occupation and the Swedish armed forces can not have a different political stance than the Government, they are an extension of the swedish political system. Also the show was for a motorcycle gang with ties to Putin which complicates matters. That being said I don't blame Sabaton for doing the gig, but I also understand why the army had to back out. It's unfortunate but that's the way it goes sometimes. I know this is being blasted by conscripts and professional soldiers at Livgardet no matter what:)

the first music video is showing the Skirmish at Bender, when King charles the 12th and his royal guards was in Turkey after the defeat of Poltava. The king had outstayed his welcome there and the turkish people stormed the place he lived at. The royal guard fought and killed or wounded between 200-400 while only losing around 30. They did end up losing that skirmish and was captured and then thrown out of Turkey. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skirmish_at_Bender

I'm disappointed they were uninvited to the celebrations. Not that I would have necessarily been able to see it, but the idea they would have been presented alongside other celebratory acts as a cultural treasure is awesome. And this song is fantastic. The instruments with the lion and the 3 crowns have been used on the Caroulus rex and Gustavus Adolphus songs for a while. For example the Swedish hockey team have 3 crowns on the chest wich is a symbol of Sweden after it got founded from 3 small kingdoms into 1. The lion is the symbol for Adolphus who put Sweden on the map and also introduced the modern warfare to europe. Both Napoleon and Adolph Hitler used Adolphus military doctrines as a blueprint for how to make war.

The reason the army stoped the cooperation with Sabaton is because: In 2015 they played a concert in Sevastopol in Ukraine (Sevastopol is in the occupied Crimea). And to add another layer of shit on this cake, this concert was organized by the biker gang called Night Wolves (But are often referred to as Putins Hells Angels for very good reasons…..) And before somebody says anything stupid, I’m a HUGE Sabaton Fan, I’ve seen them live many times. First time was in their own hometown of Falun in 2011. You have to realize how it would’ve looked if the Swedish army would’ve gone forward with Sabaton..

Sorry, this may appear almost completely off topic, but something you said hit home. Covid did cause some real problems, which came up with some interesting solutions. Completely different music style, but an example of a way to promote himself and help out a struggling business: Canadian Singer/songwriter Lawrence Gowan (who is performs solo, but is also current lead singer for Styx) in an attempt to help a struggling theatre did live stream performances from the theatre with just him playing and his son on Drums.... He did a big bit promoting the history of the theatre and also making it almost a "live in your living room" type thing by doing a Q&A session at the end with people on the stream. The Barenaked Ladies (I swear it is only coincidence that they are Canadian as well) did a series of videos of their favourite songs done from their individual homes via video conference. While I am not recommending that peoples should have a rough life, it is true that hardship of one form or another forces us to inovate.

I would not say they are like the American secret service. The Royal Guard stand out in their uniforms. The Swedish equivalent to the American secret service I would say is Säpo Swedish Security Service. The Swedish Security Service is a Swedish government agency organized under the Ministry of Justice. It operates as a security agency responsible for counter-espionage, counter-terrorism, as well as the protection of dignitaries and the constitution. They dress more like secret service and is armed in a similar fashion.
