======= To Hell And Back SONG STORY =======
This is the story of Audie Murphy, the most decorated US soldier in WW2. There are simply too many stories about his deeds to even try to cover them in such a short text, but among his fellow soldiers he was truly a hero and a great inspiration. When he returned from the war he suffered heavily from post-traumatic stress (back then called shell shock) and after a long time on medicines he finally locked himself into a motel for 1 week to cure his addiction of the drugs. After this he became a very famous movie star and even acted in the movie about himself.
======= To Hell And Back LYRICS =======
A short man from Texas
A man of the wild
Thrown into combat
Where bodies lie piled
Hides his emotions
His blood’s running cold
Just like his victories,
His story unfolds
Bright
A white light
If there’d be
Any glory in war
Let it rest
On men like him
Dead men will never come back
Crosses grow on Anzio
Where no soldiers sleep
And where hell’s six feet deep
That death does wait
There’s no debate
So charge and attack
Going to Hell and Back
A man of the 15th
A man of Can Do
Friends fall around him
And yet he came through
Let them fall face down
If they must die
Making it easier
To say goodbye
Bright
A white light
If there’d be,
Any glory in war
Let it rest
On men like him
Who went to Hell and came back
Crosses grow on Anzio
Where no soldiers sleep
And where hell is six feet deep
That death does wait
There’s no debate
So charge and attack
Going to Hell and Back
Oh gather round me
And listen while I speak
Of a war
Where Hell is six feet deep
And all along the shore
Where cannons still roar
They’re haunting my dreams
They’re still there when I sleep
Crosses grow on Anzio
Where no soldiers sleep
and where hell is six feet deep
That death does wait
There’s no debate
So charge and attack
Going to Hell and Back

Another great thing about this video. The war scenes they show are from the movie "To Hell and Back" it was based on Audie Murphy's own life. Audie who had become an actor by then played himself in the movie. So when you see those war scenes it's the real Audie Murphy. Also the lyric's "crosses grow on Anzio" is from a poem written by Audie Murphy.

Fun Fact 1: Some of the lyrics in this song comes straight from Poems that Audie Murphy wrote. Fun Fact 2: Sabaton used to have 2 tanks on stage. One was called Audie, the other Murphy (They now use one tank on stage only) Love your reactions! Keep the train rolling please!

They do several songs that are lighter in tone I guess you could say. The Last Battle, The Lost Battalion, 40:1, Primo Victoria, are just a few. The subjects are still war so it is still serious but doesn't pull at the emotions nearly as much as some others. My personal favorites are "The Last Stand" and "Winged Hussars." Very very good songs!

@@TouchyReactions Looking forward to it :) I am so incredibly tired of people reacting to songs or videos without any care for what they are meant to be. And while I will fully admit that I stumbled over your channel as a member of the Sabaton Army... I watched your reaction to "No Bullets Fly". And I am German. And as they said in the video for the "Christmas Truce"... Lest We Forget. As such, I want to humbly request a reaction to either "Rise of Evil" by Sabaton, or "The Last Battle" by the same Band - both of them quite good, in my opinion. That being said, I fully understand that my requests will take their time as they are low priority... But still, I look forward to it.

Sometime after receiving the Medal of Honor, 1Lt. Audie Murphy was asked what drove him to do what he did (I'll just say if you haven't heard/read the story, do it. It's amazing and I would do it no justice.) To which 1Lt. Murphy simply replied, "they were killing my friends." We should all be so lucky to have such a friend, and hope to be one.

I knew Audie Murphy was the most decorated soldier of the Second World War, but I wasn’t aware about his ptsd until I heard this song. Just goes to show that it doesn’t matter who you are, even our greatest heroes, known for their extraordinary feats and bravery can still be effected by ptsd or as they called it “shell shock”. Audie Murphy, known as the most decorated war hero of the American army in WWII enlisted in 1942 at the age of just seventeen, this kid faced and held back an entire nazi attack with tanks and all, with only a mounted .50 cal machine gun on top of a burning tank destroyer, all at the age of seventeen, the strain on his mind must’ve been immensely devastating. I hold such high regard for soldier for practically sacrificing themselves for the common people such as myself. I admire them because I know I don’t have that courage that they have. Though I don’t support war, I will never go without thanking a serviceman for their service and sacrifice.

I had a great uncle who was killed at Anzio. Anyway it really gets on my nerves to know that the government, no matter which party is in power, fails our veterans so consistently. They get treated like gods and goddesses when they're on active duty but once those discharge papers come in they get dropped like a bad habit, it's not right. Not all wounds are caused by bullets. Veterans like you put everything on the line for their country and the people who sent you and your brothers and sisters to bleed for them need to make good on returning that commitment.

For those days you want to react but aren't in the mood to get hit in the feels (which is totally understandable, I often get teary eyed from their songs) and need some more "uplifting" songs from them, i'll just list some here: Bismarck, Art of War, Winged Hussars, Rorke's Drift, Sparta, Coat of Arms, Red Baron, Ghost Division, 40:1, Ghost in the Trenches, Resist and Bite, Battle of Moscow, Panzerkampf, Steel Commanders, Unbreakable, Primo Victoria, Attack of the Dead Men, Defense of Moscow and as I said in another comment the whole Carolus Rex album, which I recommend to do back to back to get a good full story of the Swedish Empire (watch out with En livstid i krig though, that one hits hard). These songs are just as heavy but in a way that makes you pumped. And yes, it's a big list, but it is very hard to find songs of them that aren't good. Three live versions that are especially good would be 40:1, Ghost Division and Uprising from Woodstock Poland, amazing energy and an amazing crowd of 500 000+.

Oh and i almost forgot they also have 82nd all the way preformed live with Amaranthe who also made a cover of it, great fun all around. I posted this comment at the Christmas Truce reaction but i figured i'd better post it at the most recent Sabaton video too so you have a good chance of seeing it. No pressure for you to react to it but those usually do well on youtube and you'd probably have a lot of fun watching them. No need to react to this but if you personally want to know a bit more about the song and to maybe understand some lyrics or the context of it all, they have the Sabaton History channel where they give you the full backstory on the history and even some talk about the song itself with a bandmember.

About the treatment of PTSD around the world. "Luckily", that is mostly a problem in USA. All other civilized countries takes better care of their citizens, and USA is the only "democracy" that keeps invading other countries. So you have it doubly bad because of that. It's of course a problem all over the world, the prople suffering from it are suffering from it no matter where they are from, but the rest of the world have much fewer cases and since we treat them much better, I suspect they also suffer a lot less.

Yeah the US probably has the most problems with PTSD. I hope all who need help can get it.
