Pretty sure he wasn’t dropped. Maybe rested or the squad was just being rotated. I’m an Aussie and I remember when we used to played these Pacific teams. Mostly we won by huge scores and then we lost the final World Cup play off to teams like Uruguay and Argentina. We only finally beat Uruguay in ‘05 in a penalty shootout to make the World Cup tournament after missing out for 32 years. Playing these terrible teams didn’t help us improve. That’s why we moved to Asian confederation, to play better teams.

Also if they knew that this were to happen they would like put on the second roster but they probably didn't so they just kept playing the football they knew.
