American Sign Language (ASL) Lesson 47 (Part 1) is taught by Dr. Bill Vicars who is Deaf/hh. He holds an earned doctorate (accredited) in Deaf Studies from Lamar University in Texas and teaches Deaf Studies and ASL full-time (as of this post) as an tenured full-Professor at a major four-year state university.) These videos do not use sound. The lessons are taught without voice. Hello ASL Heroes!!! If you’ve enjoyed these lessons or videos you are invited to help support ASL University. A donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for the ASL University website: Lifeprint.com. There's an easy way you can help out your humble (as well as kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher. Just click on the Paypal (donation) link below and you can be an "above and beyond" ASL Hero! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill ========================== p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and my best to you all. :)

If a word has a double letter in the word. their is at two ways to finger spell that right? hard to explain it. one version i saw is make that letter and pull to right. hope u know what I mean. Instead of bobbing the letter like tap tap in air.

Double letters are handled various ways depending on the letter, the position of the letter in the word, what letters are nearby, and sometimes individual signer preferences. I recommend not focusing on list of rules but rather focus on the concepts of efficiency and clarity. Spell the word and feel whether it feels more natural and efficient to reform, bounce, internally tap, slide, or do a combination. Keep in mind that in real life, high speed signing rather often the second letter is simply ... dropped. Ha. The situation (or context) is going to influence your choice as well. If you are spelling a password you are going to do things a bit differently than if you are spelling a commonly referenced item that your conversation partner is familiar with. If you take a formal ASL class and your teacher gives you a list of "rules" -- nod your head enthusiastically while smiling appreciatively and do your best to follow them -- but realize that out in the real world you are going to see a lot of variety. ============== How to use ASL University to learn sign language for free: 1. What is the difference between the leave sign and the AND sign?
@sign-language
@sign-language 5 жыл бұрын
Try this-- go here: kzbin.info/door/Zy9xs6Tn9vWqN_5l0EEIZA and click on the arrow to the right of the ABOUT tab. There you will see a search option to search for terms within that same channel (not the search bar at the top of the page but rather the search bar for that specific channel). Then type in: leave You will get a list of results -- look them over. Next go back to the search function and type in AND. Then look over those results. If you still have questions after looking over those results, let me know.

Why don't you do real sentences?
@sign-language
@sign-language Жыл бұрын
The sentences are "real" -- they just aren't English. The goal here is to learn ASL -- not English. The list of practice items is presented in "ASL gloss." "ASL gloss" is different from "English sentences." At some point in the future I may translate the gloss into English sentences. When teaching and documenting a language -- there is always more to do than time in which to do it. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ How to use ASL University to learn sign language for free: 1.
