One other small correction. This is the BEST explainer for cricket online, but he does make one mistake which is at the end he refers to "professional" cricket. All top level cricket is professional, he is actually describing (accurately) "franchise cricket" in terms of the big money domestic T20-only leagues (most notably India's IPL, but also Pakistans PCL, England's Hundred, Australia's Big Bash and others) as opposed to regular domestic and international cricket.

T20 is the format of the current world cup that's taking place in the US and West Indies, yes. I think the best way to think of the differences between the formats is that in Test cricket the bowling team is the offense (trying to take lots of wickets as quickly as possible) and the batting team is the defence (trying to maintain their wickets and not get out), while in Limited Overs games - and especially T20 - the batting team is the offence (trying to score lots of runs as quickly as possible), and the bowling team is the defence (trying not to get hit for runs).

That makes a lot of sense

Another small mistake in the video is that if the target is 222, it doesn't mean that the opposite team has scored 222 runs. They would have scored 221 (1 run less than the target). The idea is basically to score at least 1 run more than the opposite team to win.

This match got my son and I (Americans with no cricket experience) intrigued so we drove 18 hours to Florida for US-Ireland. Despite a 5 hours window of glorious sun between rain, there seemed to be zero interest in actually playing cricket. Three hours after the scheduled start it started raining again and the match was cancelled. To an American who is used to baseball games restarting minutes after the rain stops, this was frustrating. If that is how cricket values its fans (and curious Americans) screw it. There are plenty of sports to follow that play when the sun shines.

@@ImFrancisSports I am sure that was normal for cricket, but we are used to grounds crew and officials trying very, very hard to play scheduled games (as in baseball). The seemingly languid attitude -- the officials casually strolled out to the pitch once an hour and the grounds crew was mostly standing around -- was frustrating. Again, I am sure cricket fans find this normal and do not care that uninformed potential new fans don't like it. On the way to the rained out game, my son and I were talking about going to a Round of 8 game in New York, but we were fooled once and are now focusing on the Olympics for new and interesting sports. There are plenty to choose from!

@@Gustaf1965 for the past couple years the International Cricket Council (ICC), has been scheduling games in the middle of rainy season, God alone knows why, and it is massively frustrating for all the fans. since cricket cannot be played if the pitch isn't totally dry. or something. possibly the grass can't be too wet either. so as not to disadvantage the fielding side. rained on matches are incredibly frustrating even if one is just watching on the telly, i can't imagine driving for even a single hour to see a match only for it to be rained on, let alone 18. and it was your first time going too. i was really sorry to hear about your experience. the ICC's composed of idiots right now.
