Peter designed the Daytona in order to get more speed out of the Cobra roadster. Well, Peter the magician succeeded admirably! Think of it, a sport coupe with a comparatively small, 289 V8 of about 390hp was infinitely faster than the 427 big block Corvette at the time. Bob Bondurant in his Cobra Daytona Coupe hit 197mph on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, which outran the first GT40s made. Very impressive! 🙂 + 🤠 = 🏁🏆 👍

@FISIX - With all due respect to the great Australian, Peter Brock, his Daytona was NOT one of the 6 original Cobra Daytona Coupes, but rather a reproduction with, of all things, (gasp), a Chevy engine as opposed to the original 289 Ford V8! There are at least 3 other reproductions available worldwide. These two cars are as different as night and day and should not be confused, as only the 6 original Cobra Daytona Coupes designed by American Peter Brock, are the real Daytonas. The World Manufacturers Championship was won by this car, the only American made vehicle to accomplish that feat to this day! 🤠 🏆 🏁 👍

Loulovesspeed, I am in total agreement with you on how iconic the Cobra Daytona is. It is by far my most favorite GT car of that time period. The Daytona was infinitely faster than the 427 Corvette. But in all fairness, the Daytona was a specific design race car weighing around 2,200lbs and the Corvette was a street production weighing around 3,400lbs. In any case I have a deep appreciation of both the Cobra Daytona and Corvette Stingray of the mid-sixties and ironically both designed by Peter Brock. Peter Brock was a design genius at an early age, having penned the Stingray in his late teens and the Daytona in his early 20's.

​@Loulovesspeed , I agree. Phil Remington another handpicked by Shelby who was the mechanical genius who developed this cars into race winners. There were a number of hybrids at that, European style sports cars with American V8s, but only Remington could develop them into winners. Remington with Ken Miles made them into winners.

One moment it is but an idea turning in Peter Brock's head. 90 days later it is fully constructed and out on the track to be fine tuned! Cherry on the cake? - It was the only American made GT car to win the coveted World Manufacturers Championship to this day!🤠🏁

In 1965, the Daytona Coupe was fast enough to lead the fastest GT40 for a good deal of the race! Wow! A GT car that outpaced s prototype. Doesn't get any better than that.

Shelby drove one of the Camoradi Type 61s to victory in 1960, winning the USRRC Road Racing Championship. 🤠🏁💥
