I WAS HERE! I am Generation X and I came with my Gen Z daughter to protest. That teargas that got you in the bus. I was in the church across the road that was the target. We were sheltering in there. Gen Z happens to be Kenya's most educated and informed population. They were born and raised when Kenya was undergoing serious socioeconomic progress under a new progressive government, the Grand Coalition Government. At the time is when Kenya experienced serious infrastructural development. Education was free and mandatory for all kids, electricity was connected to all public schools and most homes, the government laid fiber optic internet across the country. These digital natives are not your ordinary people. They are free from tribalism and religious brainwashing. They work together regardless of their religious, social, racial/ethnic, and gender backgrounds. United by a love for music, technology, mental health activism, and freedom of expression. Who on earth demonstrates in the city with Boomboxes and DJ's? Cameras glaring, phones recording all proceedings, no vandalism, no hooliganism. Even the Government is shocked and they have found it hard to control a movement whose source no one knows. The Government tried to create a class divide among the young people by claiming that these are kids from rich families - owning the latest smartphones, using private cars and Ubers, while eating in the finest restaurants, trying to make life hard for other youths across the country. Others claimed that this is an Illuminati group. The politicians are currently hiring vandals to paint a negative picture about the revolution😅😂 I am a Millennial, recently turned 30, but I'm in awe of how smart, assertive, conscientious and progressive the Gen Z is. I thought they were joking, now all of us have joined the revolution. I have never been prouder of being a Kenyan. All Gen Z and Millennial professionals are adding their input through donations, organizing medical camps, creating apps and websites that champion the cause, young lawyers representing those detained, young content creators and journalists amplifying the voice. We are seeing all professionals in the age groups working together for all. The future is brighter. This wasn't a small thing. I hope the wave spreads to other African nations.

I am a Kenyan and Ruto....the president, has refused to listen to his people. His MPs(204) were paid each Ksh 2 million to pass a finance bill that will see an increase in taxes for the employed, resulting in at least 42% taxes in our paychecks. He also does not address the fact that our lands, passed down through inheritance will now become state owned should the bill be passed. We cannot be leasing our ancestral lands from the government. The bill is punitive and crippling, and it will see our already hard lives become impossible to live. The Kenyan youth are fighting for a better future which this bill now threatens.
