I saw pictures of WW 1 soldiers who had such knuckle dusters on their hand and a knife in the same hand. I read that the lack of a brace made it possible to perform various actions using your hands, hold something in your hand, etc., without removing the brass knuckles from your hand. Just like you mentioned that you can drive a car without taking them off.

If you Google around for various knuckle dusters from WW1 and 2, you’ll find some really interesting stuff.

These or braced, Which do you prefer better?

That's a great question! And the answer is: it sort of depends. Braceless aren't bad, and easier to carry. But if I were going to bet my life on a single swing where I needed to land a "career ending" blow, I'd go with braced.
