I wonder if they put his portrait inside the toilet bowls of the soldiers' quarters. One of several men who honestly might be worthy of such dishonor.

This was Churchill's dream for the 2 + long years England stood alone. He even said in a speech, "...until the New World comes to the aid of the Old." He was always calling out to the United States in his speeches.

US sent over some troops in 42 but 1944 this was start of the run up to the D-day invasion 500k US Troops were on the island they also had 7000 war ships going to cross including landing craft. This was after the U-boats were defeated by new technology and aircraft. I don't think that many would have been able to be brought over that fast with the U-Boat threat in 1940 to 42. Hitler had already given up on invading England anyway he was already invading the Soviet Union. I believe he hoped to defeat the Soviet Union before America could get enough military power into Europe. Soviet Union had the fuel he needed and the slave manpower. The biggest eye popping moment would be waking up on the morning in Normandy looking out at 7000 ships facing you. Check out the movie "The longest day" they show that very moment a German looks out as the fog lifts he can't believe what he is seeing then guns open up muzzle flashes from 1000's of ships.

@@lw3646 Yes and Britain fought alone as fiercely as they could, the Battle of Britain was a modern knock down drag out fight and England won when they had to win, when all was riding on it they were up to the challenge no question.

Why they call it the new world?

its probably a reference to the colonial era when the anglo colonies in the "new world" (the americas) were still a part of the empire, specifically the U.S. in this case
