“These dogs are just highly inbred fighting pit bulls.”
The success of the 1991 Pit Bull ban is evidence the policy works, says campaigner Dr. Lawrence Newport welcoming the prime minister's plans to ban the dogs.

I am an 80 year old senior living in a building in Toronto Canada, which features an entire area which has been dedicated to the breeding of these dangerous dogs. The owner is a raging narcissist awaiting his time in court for assaulting me, personally. Why they allowed this situation to exist in a Senior's building is a good question. And these dogs have attacked me many times, but they must have sensed that I wasn't really afraid of them.

'Mauled to death'. Those words made my stomach turn. I can't imagine walking in public thinking of all the nice things you'll do when you get home to your family and it being literally and agonisingly ripped away from you by a manufactured beast because someone fancied owning a notoriously dangerous and improperly bred beast. All owners whose dog causes harm to another human should face jail and a permanent ban from keeping pets.

What? Your comment doesn't make sense, it's a little bit rambling. Animals are animals, they can't vocalise when they have issues. If an animal attacks, yes it's partly the owner but at the end of the day it is an animal and animals are dangerous. Animals are capable of having medical or psychological problems that, regardless of owner, can cause dangerous activity. Most dogs can be controlled physically but that is not the case with these. @@DebbieAppelhans

Pitbulls & Large Dogs Pitbulls and Rottweilers make up 77% of all fatal dog bites, despite making up only 6% of the U.S. dog population Pitbulls are 2.5x more likely to bite in multiple anatomical locations than other breeds. Pitbulls are responsible for 60% of all injuries and 63% of ocular injuries. Pitbull terriers are 31% more likely to attack an unknown individual than other breeds Pitbull terriers are 48% more likely to attack without provocation than other breeds Pitbull attacks have higher morbidity rates, higher hospital charges, and a higher risk of death than attacks by other breeds. During 2005-2017, pit bulls killed one citizen every 16.7 days, totaling up to 284 Americans. Rottweilers killed over 105 days during that time period. From 2005 to 2017, Rottweiler and Pitbull attacks contributed to 76% of dog bite deaths. When comparing 2005-2010 to 2011-2017, Pitbull attack deaths have increased from 58% to 71%. Alternatively, Rottweiler deaths decreased from 14% to 7%. According to a 13-year data set, pit bulls caused 72% of attacks that killed a person 10-years and older vs. all other dog breeds put together, 28%.

Yes unfortunately. What also doesn't help is the fact they've had the stronger/more "dangerous" (for lack of a better word) traits bred into them until we've reached the current point. Bans need to be enforced otherwise they don't work. The reason the Bully XLs are in UK society is that the ban on the American Pit Bull Terrier wasn't successfully enforced which meant that APBTs were available to then breed with larger mastiff types in order to create the Bully XLs in the first place.

The whole debate is: “It’s not the dog it’s the owner” The problem with this statement is this. Firstly the owner of any dog that attacks will be punished. This is part of law and has been for years. The difference is this. The fact that XL bully dogs are difficult to control in an incident is like having a machete with the capability of cutting people up but blaming a killer on the road and saying why didn’t he or she’s use it in the kitchen. A machete does not have a mind of its own. The problem here is, this XL bully will end up in the wrong hands regardless. That’s the equivalent of a machete. Even if it’s 1 owner out of a 100. That one owner has the potential of manslaughter. Which means, regulating these dogs would mean, bad owners would not own such dogs and the incidents of human death would be reduced to zero. The government is not blaming the dog. They are trying to prevent these types of dogs to fall in the wrong hands. As it’s a very difficult market to regulate. It’s best just to ban it as it means no deaths. Those who defend the statement above should ask them selves a simple question. “Is owning a dog that can end up in the wrong hands worth more than a single human life”?
@dh1474
@dh1474 Жыл бұрын

We have had a DNA revolution since the original dangerous dogs act was introduced. Most dogs can be tested for between £60-100, which would allow non XL owners to prove, it also allows future health issues to be identified. Interestingly, Authorities in Paris do tests on dog waste to ID the culprit, which has resulted in reduced fouling and dogs being allowed back into public parks and spaces from which access was removed. If you pick up after your dog, there is nothing to fear, and it prevents the majority from being tarred with the same brush

I have Beages. They're always on lead. I'm afraid of offlead dogs of all kinds. However, I remember the days when rotties were the 'weapon of choice' for thugs. When someone was killed by a dog it would be a rottie to blame. The criminals and thugs moved on to other breeds and now rotties are considered excelent family dogs. I know plenty of people that have them - slightly built young women (and old women) that have no problem handling them. I would be TERRIFIED if a bully type dog lived next door to me. But my fear doesn't give me the right to demand that someone's much loved pet is euthanized. I'd have thought the more potentially dangerous the dog is (due to size, strength) the more hurdles to ownership there should be. I tried to buy a craft knife the other day. I couldn't. Not because I'm likely to hurt myself or someone else with a craft knife. But rather because some people like stabbing people - and therefore they use things like craft knives to do things they were never intended to do.

The dogs in question that have actually attacked people should have their ancestry investigated, and see if somehow that’s the link to help get to the bottom of it. But like you’ve pointed out there is a lot of breeding with different breeds to create this dog, and it’s all been done within the past 30 years or so, so it should be easy to trace

Dogs in general are fine. The problem resides with owners. There are zero laws governing dog ownership. None that address nuisance noise, none that address training them, nine that address adequate care of them. Ultimately this allows anyone to own a dog with zero responsibilities ti keep the dog safe and to keep others safe from the dog. The amount of owners now who don't even knoe basic training or handling techniques out there, it's becoming a massive problem. Licences need introducing and regular evidence to show that the dog is responsive to commands and under control even when off the lead. This nation literally has gone to the dogs.

We need more focus on the defining of this "breed". The speaker in this interview suggests a fully documented breeding sequence exists, that will be used to identify members of this breed. It would be salient to hear what others have to say about this suggestion. It does concern me that the Times Radio videos I am seeing, do seem to most platform those who are campaigning against this breed; where I would doubt that not everything they claim would stand up to scrutiny by experts in the fields their claims address. My sense is that these pro-ban speakers are over-leveraging their claimed data, and shouting-down alternate voices with their claimed certainty. The speaker in this video, for example, doesn't even bother to brush aside the expert institutional voices offering an alternate narrative; instead those alternate voices are simply ignored.

One fear I had never thought of was being eaten alive by a dog😬.. my concern is if an American Bulldog will be type classed along with the XL type because they are two completely different temperaments and just slightly similar in face and body

@dwaynejones7266well your wrong all you encouraging this ban better not have a similar unregistered breed because it will be taken especially if it dares to bark or act like a dog. Just like all the staffies mistaken for pit bulls in the 90s early 2000s. Without any legal reproductions for the police/government.

@@Laura-fh3sc because Staffys can be typed as Pitbulls depending on their features. This ofcourse could happen to other breeds that can look similar to the XL i.e the American Bulldogs is one of the closest to have similar features to the XL, I have 2 AB they are big and similar face to the XL.

The current legislation bans "Pitbull type" dogs and isn't enforced
