Every dog deserves a human, not every human deserves a dog. Almost every “issue” with a dog starts at the human end of the leash. One of my dogs came to me as hyper aggressive, her previous owner encouraged aggressive behavior. I’ve had this dog for three years now and she is a sweet old lady.

Should be done in a similar way to how the US checks prospective gun owners. People with a history of violence for example should not be allowed to own a dog. Those with mental health conditions that have led to acts of violence should not be allowed to own dogs, along with anyone with a record of not being able to control dogs in public. Should also require prospective owners to go through a basic training course as well.

All dogs should be registered and all owners and breeders licensed at the cost of dog owners. Loads of dogs are killed cause they're over bred by breeders following fashions or because people buy them and get bored. If there's a registration fee and licence attached it becomes harder to give up on the dog and breeders will have to think more carefully. The cost of the licence and the fines for not registering animals or illegally breeding them will bring in the revenue to pay for it.

Rob says that people should be prosecuted if a dog is dangerously out of control (which he thinks will stop dog attacks), the problem is that many pit bulls/types don’t act dangerous or aggressive before an attack, I’ve seen it COUNTLESS times, they act perfectly normal and attack completely out of the blue, which is one of the very dangerous traits that was bred into them, so that their prey doesn’t have time to escape or defend itself

I've had pit bulls, rotties, staffies and German Shepherds. My GSD were far worse than the others. NONE of my dogs were ever allowed around children and other peoples dogs. I have always given my dogs very strict training. The aggression must be trained OUT of the dog early on from 8 weeks old or ANY dog will bite. The owner MUST be held responsible for strong breeds. Prison sentences and lifetime bans from ownership of dogs if their dogs bite. Simple.

We had 2 dogs Candy and Cane i was about 2 years old my mum and me had social services my mum told the social worker not to go into the dining room where me and the dogs are and she will be fine they won't try to attack her but the second she steps foot in there is the second she is going to regret it the social worker never beleved my mum and tried to walk in the dogs ran upto her sat down and waited for my mum to move her hand a certain way to see if they are alowd to attack her or stay gaurding me or if its okay there both dead now tho candy caught cancer and cane got put down.

An alternative would be to ban people from owning dogs if they have not passed a "dog owning exam". Why not? You could have certain breeds for which no exam was necessary but some breeds would need their owners to be qualified. Dogs have needs too. I love Border Collies, for instance, but I could never own one because I could never keep it occupied and exercised as it would like. Many people own Border Collies that are kept inside all day with no chance to exercise and they are bored stiff. That is just cruel. Basically, you need to have some sheep and a hillside to keep your Collie fully engaged. Lots of long walks and obstacle courses may also work! Same applies to the so-called aggressive dogs. Dogs work in packs and that necessitates a pack leader. The owner has to be that leader otherwise there will be trouble. If the owner does not assert leadership then the dog will, sometimes reluctantly, fill that position. If someone obtains a dog and does not understand that then there will be issues. The stronger the dog the more dangerous the consequences could be. Then you have the psychologically maladjusted people who want a big dog because they think it makes them look big in some way.

This is getting out of control. I just watched a video someone posted on Instagram regarding her xl bully who she left for 2 nimutes while she jumped into the shop to get a newspaper. On a lead, tied securely!! When the owner came back out a group of kids with knuckle dusters had set about the poor dog. They said they done it because the dog was classed a serious threat🤔 this dog was not even one year old, it is an innocent wee puppy! The pictures are horrendous! It's wee face was full of cuts and bruise, all swollen! It had beaten really bad for no reason at all. The best part is the whole time this was happening the puppy didn't even try to protect itself or try and bite any of them! These sick individuals are now being dealt with by police but when is this all going to stop??? That poor little dog did not deserve that! I blame the idiots on here, in newspapers, media and the government! Absolute disgusting individuals👀

People should be jailed for extended periods if their "weapon" harms anyone. They are in your care, you are responsible. Also, people should require stringent mental and physical testing to own any "aggressive" breed. There is absolutely no reason some insecure or "trying to be cool" person who can't control or contain the dog, own one. Furthermore, they should ban the unauthorized creation of any new breeds. Add jail time to the creation or ownership to banned breeds. If your dog kills or brutally maims a person, much, much longer jail times.

I have read and watched a lot about the XXL bully situation. The pieces of information that stuck with me are ...... their bite has the force of a tiger, once latched on they do no not let go upon command and due to excessive inbreeding they have a switch in their brain that makes them prone to aggression. The ban did work for a while, but people started breeding pits and crossing them with Staffies, because they look SO similar nobody knew, once they knew they had gotten away with THAT they started owning pure bred pits, I think the police didn’t enforce it (and, like i said, even they wouldn’t have known the difference between a Staffie and a pit), this is probably why the attacks started against, also, it gives the impression of not working, but, people forget, there’s probably a lot more of them now, a lot more crime, drugs and a lot more of these TYPES owning them, which adds even more to the problem

All of the citizens are going to have to pay for this ban in some way = Taxes to enforce it. It would be easier to require ALL dog owners to have a license; and to require insurance to get that license! The fees could be based on the size of the dog; and the dog's status regarding spaying/castrating. *Most elderly people and families in cities opt for a smaller dog breed and spay/"neuter" it.* ( *Dogs are not cheap to own:* food, medical care, training, etc. ... As well as "poopie bags" to clean up after the dog! -- Needs to be a legal requirement i.e. cleaning up after one's dog!) Homeowner/Renter's Insurance companies would be more than happy to tack on a fee and offer discounts for spaying/ neutering. As well as a certificate of successful completion of an owner's/dog training course. Discount points could also be offered for attending a "The best dog for you" video. (Some people are just clueless!)

People clearly don't understand that breed tempermants vary greatly. Sometimes it's the owners fault for poor training and lack of discipline, other times the owner is an excellent trainer but the dog's internal prey or defence drive takes over in a snap second of aggression. This bred has been specifically bred to have very high levels of aggression. They are genetically wired to be more aggressive than a typical dog. It's not always the owner's fault. That logic is ignorant. This breed should be banned for safety and I say that as someone who has had large working breeds throughout my life.

I don't think anyone should be training any type of dog to attack or fight. Dogs need to obey, hear the things we can't and be well socialized into the families they live with. People ask who would protect them if something bad happened and to that I say-you do not need to teach a dog to protect you in extreme circumstances. When they are compliant, obedient part of the family they aren't going to need anyone telling to protect them. But if you have one of those "sometimes" listeners, make it a daily goal to work with them and get special training and control the environment until they are well in hand.

The DDA worked very well. It ensured that the number of fatalities remained stable at around 3 per year for three decades. It was the failure of the government to update it that allowed a pit bull type to enter the country, at which point dog attacks escalated massively. Bans DO work.

There in fashion, not long ago it was Staffordshire Bull Terriers where idiots get them and don't train them properly and its a shame they are in the spotlight now (since the dog executions in london by the police). Utter nonsense a dog off the lead is not "dangerously out of control". You cannot have regulations where people "feel" threatened. Many people have irrational fear of dogs and would just report all dogs as dangerous. That just isn't the case. Parents are vastly more dangerous to children than dogs statistically. We need to make it free to have a "pet", define that, and licence protection or perhaps working dogs. You can define the temperament of a pet and set limits. Dogs that do not meet this have to then be licenced and treated differently to pets. It would then be illegal to breed or train pets to be dangerous.

The main thing that will stop these types of attacks are increasing the punishments for people who are not willing to be responsible for their dogs. Make the law that all large dogs (stipulate size) have to be on a lead and muzzled in public. If a person is found to be irresponsible more than once then they must face first a hefty fine and pay to have their dog trained if they want to keep it. If it happens again up the ante on the punishment. These people who play fast and loose with people’s lives have to go to prison.

There is no such thing as a 'dangerous breed of dog'. I've been attacked far more often by chihuahuas and terriers and other ankle-nippers, than by pit bulls. Dogs are only abusive if they are taught by their human master to be violent (or they are just poorly disciplined). A golden retriever could become violent if someone tortures it enough. The breed is completely immaterial. This is a nonsense feel-good piece of legislation that tars a whole breed of canine without holding the real villains to account: the abusive humans.

Dont ban it. Simply charge the owner for the dogs crimes. Watch all the pitmommies drop it or at least muzzle and castrate. Knowing they would be liable and serving 10 years for a bite and life if someone is killed by your monster.

We seem perfectly happy to enforce Orwellian speech laws - even speech that doesn't break any tyrannical law has gleefully been recorded by the clown police - enforcement is a choice.

The ban has to be put in place. You can’t just say ‘it can’t work’ so therefore we will do nothing; more innocent lives will be lost. The sheer size and capabilities of these dogs makes them too much of a risk to be in public: coupled with their incredible tolerance for pain, they are near impossible to stop. This breed along with some of the large mastiffs like the Cane Corso and Presa Canario are totally unsuitable for suburban living, as are many the livestock guardians like the Kangal. The dangerous dog act must be revised to encompass more of these breeds. And in the meantime a muzzle law needs to be put into immediate effect to ensure the safety of our communities.
