Welcome to Americana Quilting! In today's special episode, we're diving into two beautiful hexagon quilts brought to us by a client. These quilts have a rich history, and we're excited to help finish them and restore their beauty.
The first quilt is a true generational treasure, lovingly crafted by a grandmother, mother, and daughter. We'll be adding a border to complete this family heirloom and carefully repairing a small rip to ensure it can be cherished for years to come.
Join us as we share tips, techniques, and the joy of quilting while preserving these precious memories. Don't forget to subscribe for more quilting adventures and hit the notification bell so you never miss a stitch!

OMG! What a labor of love! Three generations of women sewing memories together. BUT, what a gift you have given this family! That was a lot of work. God Bless you for taking on that daunting task. I never would have thought to satin stitch the edges to under laid fabric. The quilts are beautiful! I agree the blue quilt is a show stopper. 💙💙💙

I have no words to describe how beautiful they turned out, especially the small hexes. So glad you decided to add the boarder instead of squaring off the one, it deserved to shine in all its glory. Thank you for showing us how to fix and add rows. I have never worked on such small ones but have done table runners with the larger quilt as you go hexi. Thanks for taking the time to walk us step by step through your process. Have a wonderful week!

They turned out beautiful. My grandma made all of her grandkids (7) handsewn quilts before she passed. I cherish things like these.

What a beautiful job youve done to help this family preserve these memories! The timing of this vid is perfect for me as my thrifty friend recently gifted me one of these partiallyfinished flimsy. Its a 1 inch hexi, and it needs preserving and finishing. Now I have a better idea how to proceed. Thank You! These turned out So lovely!

These quilts are spectacular! What I don't understand is how you do this tiny handwork with those nails of yours😂. I could do the work just no extra nails...but they are beautiful 😍. Wonderful job by the way. I have 2 quilt tops of my grandmother's I need to restore and finish. Someday🤞💕

Where did you get the quilt hammock. Or did u make it and if so what materials did u use. Many thanks Lizzi
@AmericanaQuilting
@AmericanaQuilting 4 ай бұрын
Hi Lizzi, we made it out of pvc pipe and fittings and a piece of drapery lining. it holds my bolts of batting and keeps everything off the floor while quilting!!! I am planning on adding rollers to the bottom to be able to move it around a little easier!

Can you cut half of the hexagon border off of two sides and sew them back on the other two sides?
@AmericanaQuilting
@AmericanaQuilting 4 ай бұрын
No, I left as much as I could of the edge pieces as I could, which was a little more than half. We had lots of extras so we didn't need to cut the whole ones on the sides in half. Hope that makes sense!!!

@@AmericanaQuilting Thanks. I’m making one right now and wasn’t sure about how to finish the edges. Maybe I’ll just fill it in with half hexagons. I’m doing it by hand and enjoying the process. It’s so relaxing and portable. ❤️ your channel!

Not gonna lie, it was a bit of a struggle!!! Hand piecing the extra blocks on the quilt with the larger Hexi's wasn't too bad but that tiny needle I was trying to use to do the repairs on the quilt with the smaller hexi's was really difficult!!! Oh well, can't win them all!!!
