We Can Do Better. We Can Be Better.
This video created by the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Women in Arthroplasty Committee (WIA) serves as educational content for members of the orthopaedic profession to bring awareness to discrimination in the workplace. We gathered actual comments spoken to female surgeons by colleagues and patients. The comments are read by their surgeon peers who were blinded to the comments until they read them on camera. Their reactions underscore the importance of eliminating discriminatory language and actions in the orthopaedic profession.
Our hope is that everyone who views this video becomes more aware of their inherent biases, eliminates them and ultimately encourages more women to be successful in this field.
