I went to Crown Casino in Melbourne Australia with 5000 in my pocket with the purpose of playing on the 100 minimum table. About 30 minutes later with stacks and stacks of chips I was invited to the Teak room which was more private and gave free drinks and food and had higher table limits. I couldn't do anything wrong...I didn't lose one single bet. The best one was when I put down a 4000 bet and got blackjack, I picked up my 6000 and went and cashed in my chips. Here's some tips that might help. For strategy, play the simple free online games or apps on your phone/computer(24:7 Blackjack is a good one) and have a basic strategy card open in a second window or printed out in front of you that you can refer to. It's really pretty simple once you play a while. There's only certain instances (like soft hands or pairs) that get tricky about double/split, hits, or stands. As for playing at a table, try to find a game off hours or to the side where you can play against the dealer and no one else. Most dealers are pretty helpful and understanding if you tell them you're a beginner, especially if you tip. Some hands alone with a good dealer will help your confidence with your signals and going through the motions. Don't be afraid to ask a pit boss for what you want. Tell them you're nervous around other players and ask if they can put you with a good dealer for one-on-one. This is probably better requested off peak hours. Finally, have realistic expectations. My goal is to MAYBE win a LITTLE money (if I happen to triple my initial bank I cash out), but in reality, if I can sit for a few hours, enjoy the drinks, watch people, have fun conversation, and break even, it's been a good night.
@dvrdown19812 жыл бұрын
Great advice and thanks for posting. I might add it doesn't hurt to just stand back and observe both dealers and players at the tables in a crowded casino. Leanne, what you play has no effect on the other player's winnig or losing. I won't go into statistics deeply, but "what you receive as a card is yours, based on a one-time event, when receiving that card". Now whether you win, or lose, is merely "based on the outcome at the table(dealer)". You have no effect on the other's and they have no effect on you. So play as you want and ignore them.

I learned all of this within my first couple of days in Reno. If you have never been, this is all good info to have beforehand. I lived there for the better part of a year and really enjoyed blackjack. I didn't 'win' but I found it to be a very even game, with plenty of drinks being served that gave me good entertainment value for what I left behind. Look for single deck shoes, hand shuffled, with friendly dealers. Not sure if that even exists anymore (25 years since I was there) but they make their money by giving you lots of drinks to throw off your game. It worked, but I paid less to drink at a blackjack table than I would have in a bar in Canada and met more interesting peeps.

I was at the Gold Coast in Vegas many years ago playing blackjack at $10-$20 a hand when the dealer told me , “ if I were you I’d be a very rich man “,... I asked why and he said “ you’ve won 17 hands in a row which is very highly unusual , if you were betting progressively you’d have a giant pile of chips in front of you “ ,.... i guess that explained why the pit boss was hovering over us and why they came over and opened a package of new cards .

I played blackjack 2 different times at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL. The first time was at night and I made a little money. The second time was during the day. I was once chewed out by another player for hitting on a card that he didn't think I should have hit on. He was full on yelling at me, saying the EXACT thing you mentioned - that if I hadn't hit, the dealer would have busted. The dealer had to tell him to back down. Didn't bother me any, though. It was my hand and I'll play it the way I want.
@incrediblesulk5555 жыл бұрын
Thomas Maresh no one should tell another player what to do. You may have hit on a bust card that odds say you should have stayed on and it may mess up the hand for others. All I would say is if it’s a novice with you just trying to have fun then get up and leave.
@incrediblesulk5555 жыл бұрын
Thomas you have to understand you are playing the odds and you are playing as a team. If you hit on 14 and the dealer has a 6 then you will continue to get yelled at. Other than that have fun.
@Powerman809235 жыл бұрын
Just tell him the "count" dictates what you do. Lol... actually never say that. Everyone's actions affect all future outcomes, including people that think they are experts. If someone plays perfect basic strategy, their play can cause a bad outcome. Anything can happen in the short term, yet basic strategy is based on long term odds. You can just as easily have caused yourself to win and/or the dealer to bust, but nobody ever mentions or remembers when that happens, do they? Anytime I'm at a table with cranky and superstitious people, I just leave and find a more fun table. People need to chill and have fun... If they stay long enough, they will not leave a winner, guaranteed, no matter how good they think they are. You can play longer, on average (in theory), if you play good basic strategy, but many people giving out advice during actual play don't do that themselves. I see this more at the craps table than I do at blackjack. I never let dealers play my cards for me. The customer (tipper) is the boss.
@queifjay5 жыл бұрын
@@incrediblesulk555 you have to understand that it is unknown what the next card up will be and for all intents and purposes it is completely random. While it's true that a bad play could cost the rest of the table...It's equally likely that a bad play will shake things up and benefit the rest of the table. Maybe you stole the dealers bust card? Maybe you stole a card that would cause the dealer to get 21? Mathematically, other people's play can not effect your actual chances of winning or losing.

And it’s not a secret, what cards other players have. I only play single or double decks, many time’s they’ll deal the 2 cards both up. And if no one is sitting in the hot seat (last chair), I do. Say Table’s full, 3 busted, 1 split and both hands are in, and 1 has 18,(they’re friends) I’ve got a 13or14 and I stay, Dealer takes a face card and busts. It’s an unorthodox play, still I’m up the .5%. Once, the 3of us were only at the Table, kicking butt, then it’s usually time for new Dealer, but a new player sat at last chair, it was like they didn’t know how to play, and our luck ran out. They had to be playing for the House.

Let me call this #8b: Going along with your #8, Don't sit at the end seat to the right of the dealer because every player WILL get on your case if you don't play your hand like they want you to. Others at the table can and will also make poor choices, but the person sitting in the end seat will be the one that is ultimately blamed if the table loses.
@gowifb3 жыл бұрын
Good call although I like to take that seat since I would play basic strategy. While some people are pissed if something bad happens most still keep their mouth shut since I still did what was proper. What I don't want is for someone that doesn't know what they are doing to take that seat as then for sure people will be commenting and blaming them every time something goes wrong. I just don't want to hear the whining and complaining so I am willing to take some glances every now and then instead of having a table where everyone is mad.

All double down options benefit the player, so it would good to take advantage of that option if it is offered. As a dealer, I can say that these are all very sound pieces of advice, especially that last one. I've been flipped off, cursed at, and insulted to my face because of the cards. I've got a pretty thick skin, and I realize that if I'm expecting tips from big wins, then I have to expect some salt from big losses. And I have no qualms about playing the big bad dealer for entertainment purposes. It's a game that's supposed to be fun, and I try to help people enjoy their time at my table. But players forget that we're still people, just like them (and we really do want them to win. It's not like we're playing with our own money, after all). There's no need to be disrespectful or personally insult us over a game that we don't have any control over. Also, I desperately wish that there was a well-known tip rate for dealers like there is in the restaurant industry. When I was a player, I never knew what an appropriate tip amount was, so I would always just kinda guess with whatever small chips I had leftover after I colored up. But for anyone curious what dealers don't find insulting, if you win, roughly 10% of the winnings is a good start (adjusted for level of service, of course. No need to tip the stone-face, silent dealer that didn't add anything to your evening). I can't tell you the number of times a fellow dealer has told me about a $4,000 winner that tipped $3 (or sometimes not at all). In places that pool tips, that hurts everyone. Also also, this should be obvious, but no, shufflers aren't rigged, and yes, I've had more than one player tell me that they are (but they still played, surprise surprise -_- )

Yeah index plays will mess with people like that. Stuff like hitting 12 against 4-6. If I know the count is low like -4 or so and I get a 12 against a 6, I'll be like "alright let's do stupid things." Then I'll hit, get an 8, then the dealer will make a hand, like a 17 or something. Gets others salty but I don't care. As far as side bets go, I use them to keep track of how many hands I'm playing. And they're good to play if you're counting as well. If the count is high and the ace count is low, I'll usually put a lot of money in the side bet (match the dealer at the casinos I play at). Getting a double match win but then losing your 20 to a dealer's blackjack is pretty hilarious cuz you still made money haha.

There is usually a line of people waiting to get on the only 4 normal black jack tables in the whole casino which are now usually 25 min a hand! 2. They never let you touch your own cards 3. They're constantly trying to confuse you with new versions of Black Jack like Spanish 21 or the version where you get to see the dealers face down card and they insist you hit or stay because you know what the dealer has 4. 1) if you had a great shoe don't expect the next one to be the same. 2) blackjack is not a consistent winning game learn to cash out because it's much more difficult to push chips forward than to reach in your pocket for more money. 3) whenever possible avoid 5-15 dollar tables (my preference) to many people who are new to gambling and playing is very inconsistent. 25-50 in my opinion are the best tables. 4) if possible play multiple spots to keep the dealer from running a bad shoe this might not work all the time but at least the strategy gives you more flexibility. 5) if you're experiencing a bad shoe just so you don't upset others at the table ask the dealer where can I find the restroom just to shake things up a bit.

Absolutely. If you sit down at a blackjack table and you aren't counting cards you're a sucker. I used to play poker at casinos but i'd never touch any other game. I came out ahead too. I used to drive a taxi in Seattle at night. I picked up a fare at a casino and he tells me he won 2000 dollars playing blackjack. I asked him, 'Did you count cards?'. He said, 'Of Course!'
@AmyraCarter6 жыл бұрын
That's right. If the option to sit is there, don't. Instead, stand there and make sure to cast the illusion that your time is limited. It'll help change the pace of the game. It'll help you win too.

I've gotten plenty of dirty looks hitting my 12 against the dealer's 2 or 3. Also, I've benefited from another player's poor play as much as I've lost from another player's poor play.
@schlockfather3 жыл бұрын
If you get a dirty look for that hit it just means they don't actually know "the book." I've even had a few dealers be like: "If you need advice, just ask." Then later I'll ask if I should hit a certain soft hand amd they'll be like: "Uh, I actually don't know the book to this game."
@ingridmatthews66272 жыл бұрын
That's actually the correct play. If you want to hear screaming, play your hunch by standing on a 16 versus a dealers 10. Oh the howls, you think I was murdering their dog.
@Stern-warning2 жыл бұрын
Try doubling down on 12 when the dealer has 4, 5 or 6, the dealers will call the pit boss over to check your ID because he thinks you’re counting cards and will stand there staring at you for the next hour if you win.

i was in vegas back in the mid 90's, playing black jack at my motel (The Old Town Hall) when one of those mouthy guys you were talking about sat down...he acted half in the bag, complained at the lady beside him for taking his card, a couple times, she went to leave, but i told her to just swap seats with me, i bet, then i proceeded to hit 3 times till i busted the draw, buddy of course complained, i turned in my chair and just "looked" at him, not menacingly just like i was glancing at a wall color, but i never looked away, he bet, then i put down the minimum, without looking away, and proceeded to bust again, he opened his mouth, looked at me, and shut it, if he didn't bet, i didn't if he did, i did, and would eat up cards busting, still looking at him, till after about 15 or 20 minutes, he got up and left the building (i iknow, i followed him out the door and watched him leave, then nodded to security when i turned around, and walked past them back to the table to play for a bit more, the lady had left by then,and i walked away down a couple bills in the end, but the dealer kept grinning everytime i'd hit, and i couldn't stop humming The Carpenters "I'm On Top Of The World" (now if i hear that song on the radio i feel the smile come at the memory...in fact, i'm smiling as i type this)

Excellent video, thanks! I've never seen the continuous shuffling machine, but it certainly sounds nefarious! My wife and I play a lot of Pai Gow, and a few years ago, it was a very ritualistic game, which included rolling a die to see who gets the first cards. It was much slower, too. Now it's all computer, and while they alternate between two automatically shuffled decks, the computer knows exactly what is in each hand. The dealer can punch a button, and tell you the "house way" to play your cards, without seeing them. Yeah, the game plays much faster than it used to, therefore more income for the casino, but the computer knowing what's in your hand is just creepy!

Yeah, continual shuffling machines are bad news. I won't put it past the casino to use them to cheat players. If people would just stop playing on them, they would go away. But, at some smaller casinos mid-morning on a weekday, these are the only machines available.
@LVGaryD15 жыл бұрын
The machine doesn't know what is in your hand until all the cards are out and the dealers punches the seat number of the person who is banking into the machine. Only then does it know who has what hand.

If you make a series of low bets, win and lose, and then suddenly make a huge bet you stand a good chance of being asked to leave, especially if you win on your large bet. It's a sure sign of counting and, although legal, the casino does NOT have to let you do it, even if they only suspect it.

Just a comment on "don't tell the dealer - use hand signals". Yes, but as a regular player who plays hours at a time we get tired and some times our signals get a bit sloppy and are misunderstood. While hand signals are required, I find all the dealers I play with also appreciate speaking as well as it reassures us both my hand said what I told it too! I should add I usually play at night with few or no others players and they all know I never take insurance, for example, so waiving off insurance won't count as a stand on my card instead.

I had a hand where I was dealt 2 x 5s against a 7, I wanted to double against the 7 so I put down equal chips. the man who was in charge told me I had to state whether I was splitting or doubling how would you do this with a hand gesture, you could only speak surely
@zitherzon21212 жыл бұрын
The guy was being a dick. He knows that you would never split 5s.
@sneakerhead47702 жыл бұрын
If u want to double u stick out 1 finger meaning u will only take 1 card. To split I would take both hands touching and move them apart or do that with both index fingers mb
@sunnyscott48762 жыл бұрын
If you want to split you put out two fingers and the dealer will confirm that. If you want to double down, you put out one finger and the dealer will confirm that. You will then get only one additional card.
@govt.op.36832 жыл бұрын
I'd be really surprised if any dealer ever really believed a player wanted to split 5s vs. ANY up card let alone a 7. It has to be the worst play possible just about. Usually those "men in charge' aren't the sharpest pencils in the box.

Last time I was in Vegas I saw this happen a couple of times: I approach a $10 minimum table and see that the game plays 6:5 so I don't play. I watch a couple of hands and notice some clueless players are betting $40 and $50 a hand at that table. You walk about 100 ft over to the $25 minimum tables and you see that those pay 3:2.
