Which reminds me of a trip to New York many years ago. I called in a drugstore asking for batteries. Guy behind the counter didn't understand me despite the Englishman (me) repeating his request several times. In desperation I pointed to the row of AA size batteries on display behind him. Trash cans detection is actually pretty handy, if they are on the road the car can understand what they are and wait until there's room to pass them. If there's just an "unknown object" detected, the car will probably just wait for it to move or the driver to take over.

It's not there in the menu. Tesla Drvier and I both have HW3 with FSD package. There is no option to turn it on, it's missing in the EU update.

I believe the voice command problems might be server side. I've heard many people getting problems like you demonstrated, not picking up the command or not being able to execute it. Supposedly it gets corrected after a few hours, which makes it seem as if the servers handling the requests (voice translation) might be overloaded by everyone trying it out. Tesla should've prepared a bit better for the influx of requests coming through. Let's hope they add support for offline translation/voice recognition as well, for times when the connection might be spotty. Keep us up to date with how it improves/not!

Just to correct you (not very crucial!) , a six meter perimeter gives you up to 12 meters of summon, if the car can pass you and drive for 6 meters more. I think that they have added the trash cans because when garbage gets collected people keep their trash cans by the road, and in case someone leave it on the road your car might crash into it on autopilot (just as it used to do with cones). I am only guessing I do not have any sources or anything it is purely my opinion.

I'm here to correct the math: if you need to be 6 meters from the car and it can drive 20, it's not 14 meters you need to walk., because it can drive past you and drive another 6 meters. so yu will just have to walk 8 meters. (and that is not factoring in the length of the car, since even though gramattically we should, I feel thats not how the detection works)

1:18 this is incorrect, if you are 6 meters away, the car comes to you, then goes away from you for 6 more meters, then you walk 6 meters back from it, for 8 more meters, and the car would have done 20 meters. (just trolling here, I completely got your point :) )

I've got the exact same issue with voice commands. It worked at first then the car just stopped listening to me! Apparently you need to: 1. remove the sentry mode storage drive. 2. perform a soft reset. 3. reinsert your storage drive. 4. voice commands should work normally now. I'm yet to try that.

I've had hit and miss luck with the voice commands. Today it worked great, I did genuinely need to open my glove box while at the Tyre shop. Yesterday the car went deaf like it did for you. I'm still om HW 2. Waiting for my complementary FSD computer.

FYI, Phone being 6 meters away and travel up to 20 meters is normal summon, not smart summon. Normal summon is best used to park your car in a tight garage or pull it out or if someone parks to close on your driver side but they had no passenger that got out and you can't get in.

Have you try if your car, even if it doe not show the stop sign on your screen will alert you that you're about to run through a stop when on autopilot ? One possibly is that in my local area (United States) we roll our quite different looking "trash cans" out to the street edge for garbage pickup. Some people park them on the street. Can't say that I have seen an orange dumpster before. Maybe it hasn't either.

Yep. I saw one of Ben Sullins' (Teslanomics) KZbin Clips where his voice commands worked perfectly. Ben is based in San Diego, California, which explains why we must all speak in a cool West Coast accent from now on. So hard for someone bought up and living in Gloucestershire, England.

Just wait a day or two, my model 3 took a few days before smart summon worked. I kept trying it out the first day where it kept something along the lines of cant use summon in this area. Now i can pretty much use it everywhere apart from roads. It is unusable though, you have to follow it so theres no point in using the feature. BTW if you stop smart summon, youll have to move the car manually before trying again

I’d say the voice commands weren’t working because you were on LTE, I think you need to be on 4g or WiFi. Did you turn your visualisations on in the Autopilot menu?

I'm in US and the voice commands are messed up as well. I thought the mic was broken. Then I found a semi-solution. If it fails, close it and try again. Usually it works on 2nd or 3rd try and sometimes keeps working for 3 to 4 commands in a row. Weird and annoying.

the visualisation not working is what intrigues me the most, considering this is likely to be solely done by the car's camera's using the car's processor/s most things should be universal. e.g arrows, I can't imagine they're very different between countries and any slight charges (thickness of lines for example) should be easily handled by the way they map the arrows (and such alike) in the first place.

I think trashcan was part of it because on windy days we have trashcans out in the road or close to the edge of the road. I think identifying objects like mailboxes and such will be important for the tesla cars to avoid going off the road and knowing they aren't pedestrians for it to drive properly. Especially since many roads outside the city have no road lines at all, at least in the u.s. Will see if mailboxes aren't next on the list of things.

I think it would be good for tight spots where you don’t think your passenger could get out. Or in my case I have a very tight garage on an old house. I’ve never used it for a car because even my Prius is too wide to open the driver door and squeeze out. I’m not even a big guy. So having the car pull itself in and out would be pretty handy.

Visualizations(such as lights, stop signs, arrows, trash cans) only work with hardware 3. Do you have hardware 3? Voice command issues may be fixes with a reboot. Try a soft and then a hard reboot.

Voice works better for me (US). Once in a while I get that problem too trying to do a bug report. Try reset. Wrong Trash to test with can in your demo, it's the home trash cans as in trash day, trash cans are important in our US city because many people here put their can in the road, i.e past the gutter and in the road, car would plow thru them if it didn't see them on ciy driving. Voice commands are pretty useful hopefully it gets better and better.

Trash cans is an American thing. In suburban towns people put them out on the street to be emptied by the passing garbage trucks on certain days, so they become obstacles for the cars. Makes total sense for Tesla to see them.

This solves the problem with the commands. 1. Unplug flash drive for Sentry/dashcam. 2. Do a soft reboot. 3. Wait until full cellular connection (or WiFi).
