To be fair the modern accent of American English is closer to the original English language pronunciation. The so called British accent was developed by the upper classes to distinguish themselves from the poor, and just spread throughout the country, but not across the pond.

Brandon That's your opinion, I suppose it depends what side of the Atlantic you're on. I find English spoken in UK and northern Europe (anything above the English Channel in my book) have similar structure, more precise and less verbose. But that's probably just weather.

How?! Cymraeg predates English by over 1500 years. The Britons were using the Phonecian alphabet when the Saxon horde were still using runes. They, the English were When they got Britain and the druids had to create the English language for them using the phonecian alphabet and influnces from other Germanic languages, Latin and Cymraeg.

@@holliswilliams8426We do it because it's so valued to our culture and our History. Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe and is derived from celtic making it very special. Oftentimes however, people from England say the same as you. They see no need for our language, they try to stop us speaking it by interfering with Welsh political affairs. Wales is affectively trapped by English rule without the world knowing or caring. When we try and argue back we're either called racist against England or sheep shaggers, every Welsh child in school has stories about this racial stereotypeing which isn't funny and isn't smart. Therefore our language being spoken across our country with such ancient history is one of the most important things to us. That's why we learn it.

I fence and some people from London were invited to join the club for a couple days. We compete all across the country and sometimes the world and we are based in South Wales. The people from London were chatting to us so I said to them "so how much Welsh do you do in school" and they were totally confused. Apparently they didn't know that Welsh was its own language and that we even learnt it.

Welsh or Cymreag as it is in called in Welsh is a 4.000 years old language. The oldest in the British Isles. It was spoken by the Celts! 100 Americas together are still not that old that this language! I think around 76% of Welsh people are still speak it! Welsh people are called Cymry which means Fellow-countrymen. The term Welsh came from the proto-Germanic word Walhaz when Germans invaded Britain.
