Basically we have “primary” schools and “secondary” schools. Primary schools are for the younger kids, maybe 5/6 or six years old to about 10/11. Then secondary is for the older ones, right up until 16/17. What a lot of schools nowadays do though is they will also act as a college, so kids right up to 18/19 will still study there if they are doing further education. We also call them “years” not “grades” as you do in America. Secondary school starts from year 7 to year 11. Primary school is from year 1 to year 6. You get the picture.

High schools like this are year 7 onwards with the 6th form being an add-on at the same school. They get extra privileges like free periods & pool tables and their own lounge/common-room. 6th forms get their name cos it's the 6th year onwards of high school. Year 7 being the first. Years 6 and below are primary school/kindergarten.

She was the BRAINIEST person ever and literally never missed a day of school in her entire life and got straight A's in her GCSE's, I literally have no idea what ever happened to her because I don't keep in touch with anyone in my year. But if she didn't go on to become either a scientist or a doctor then she's let herself down in my opinion. Like I suppose I would just about let her off if she became a lawyer or works for the government but like the girl knew EVERYTHING and could of gone on to do anything she was THAT smart!!

@NetSpectreКүн бұрын
In the UK, after primary (elementary) school, we go to secondary school (high school) at the age of 11 until we are about 18. So the youngest the kid threatening Simon can be is 11 whilst Simon could be 17 give or take a year as he is in the final two years (which we call sixth-form). Then at 18 you go to uni (college) if you get into one.

Nursery (optional): 0-4/5 Primary/Junior school: 4/5-11 Secondary/Comp/High school: 11-16 Sixth form/College - 16 onwards University - 18 onwards General breakdown of the British school system 👍
@obuggerКүн бұрын
The kid isn't 9 years old, he's in Year 9 - which would make him 13 or 14 years old. In the British school system the first six years are spent in Primary School. At the end of Year 6 (aged 11) they transfer to Secondary School for Years 7 to 11 (ages 11 - 16). 16 is the end of compulsory education, some kids (like Will etc) stay on for another two years until they are 18. Officially they are in Years 12 and 13 but these years are often confusingly lumped together as "Sixth Form" which is a throwback to an earlier system when the numbering used to start again at one at the beginning of Secondary School. Confused? You're welcome!

On the subject of checking oil levels. Back in the day (almost forty years ago) I was a biker, my mate, also a biker, had a girlfriend who was also a biker. She rode a two cylinder Kawasaki, I believe 350cc, quite a small engine. She rode from Aberdeen to Bristol , just under 500 miles, a long distance for a bike especially a small one. It is imperative to check and top up the oil on such a journey. Like most modern bikes, no dipstick just a small window on the side of the crankcase marked to show maximum and minimum levels for the oil. Thing is, you must put the bike on the centre stand on level ground to get an accurate reading. She was unable to do this and being a feminist wasn’t about to ask some man to help her. Upshot was she ran the poor little engine practically dry of oil and effed it up. It would have cost more than the bike was worth to get a garage to rebuild the engine so the feminist’s bike ended up being rebuilt by her boyfriend in my garage.
