Apart from the language, Western and Central Europe are quite similar. As a European, you tend to see the small differences, while Americans see the big similarities.

Here in the netherlands (where the guy in the video lives) we dont compare jobs. Some people are street smart, some people are book smart, you need all of them. When people talk about jobs here they ask "do you like it" and if your anwser is no, they'll tell you to do something else that you do like. I work at a callcenter, I book taxis for old and disabled people. I really like it, I like helping people. I guess a callcenter wouldn't be classified as a high ranking job and I coulve gone to uni if I wanted to but I like where I am now and I can always apply for a uni in the future (im 23yo).

The rural vs. city "argument" applies to all countries. USA defenders like to count the cities out of the statistics, but that's just not how it works. As for the media, there are also media outlets here that try to make it bad to generate clicks and make money. On the other hand, shootings are in the media here for weeks, but in the US they are often only reported locally. The habituation effect plays an important role here. If you live in a war zone, you get used to a lot of things.

Cycling is also forbidden on the Autobahn, that would be super dangerous for everyone involved! People call it in right away and the police will fine and escort the biker off asap. The difference is that in Europe, there is always a smaller road nearby where you can bike to the same destination.

I am Dutch, love my country to death and I'm a bit tired of all these expats praising our countries as well. Plenty of Dutch people are struggling with bills, life in general. European countries are not utopias. I feel like we are a theme park for rich Americans. I hope they realize not every American can just pack up and pick a different country. Most American expats come here and act like they are honorary Dutch citizens within a week, while they don't even speak Dutch or TRY to speack Dutch. American expats also get privilege when it comes to housing. It is easier for an American to buy a house in the Netherlands than a Dutch person buying a house.

Yeah, the news do picture the US as a Gotham City. That's why I'm also watching all kinds of US-related YT channel like yours. From reaction videos to garage sells, from hiking videos to bodycams of both, police and citizens, the whole nine yards basically. But compared to where I'm living in Germany, the US still looks like Gotham City. Just with a few more batcaves and maybe more than just one Batfamily. Nevertheless, not the place I want to be.

I thought we got it good in the UK, but my son who moved to Austria a few years ago just got a new job working 32hrs a week (on the same money I earn for 36hrs in a well paid job), working predominantly from home and with all the benefits of 5wks paid holiday, paid sick, etc etc. Work/life balance is so much more important in Europe. They actually asked him why he only wanted 32hrs and he said 'cos I start going downhill after that, you'll get the same work out of me in 32hrs as you will in 40hrs', and they were fine with that

I would put the UK work culture closer to the US than to most of continental Europe. Imo there are two models of productivity, because that's what it's all about and money rules everywhere, the USA and UK have a system of seeing who comes out on top and give them jobs or promote them. The Netherlands and is more based on the idea of getting the most out of all talent present, in the company but also in schools. Give them enough leisure time, give them nice chairs and offices, try to keep them happy at work. Often I feel like in the UK or USA employers see a bad office as an incentive to work harder, get promotion to finally get a nice office.

Yes my country is the same yet there more freedom living here then USA and I put roughly. Where are workers rights and how is medical cost so high. Here we have socialized Heath and private health, yet the cost of medical or pills are far cheaper then USA.

It's not a bad video, but it should be called 'How I see the U.S after living in the Netherlands for 5 years' . The Netherlands are a small Nord Western nation. they do not represent Europe. There is no 'typical ' country that can represent Europe.

The perfect society has yet to be built - every country has both good & bad points - the USA has an elected head of State whilst here in the UK our head of state is born (insane!!). In that sense the US is better than my country of the UK - but equally the UK is better in paid holidays for workers than the US. One day the perfect social conditions will be agreed on by humanity , but sadly i'm pretty sure it won't be in my lifetime !

I'm 51, when I started work in 1989 the British standard working hours were just making an effect, from an expected 60 hour week, 2 weeks no pay holiday +bank holidays, I could spend the evening down the pub on 2 hours worth of work AND get my FISH & chip supper, to a mandated 16 hours per week is a full time job and I have to save for about a month now to enjoy the same evening.

Funny how some common (it seems) expressions don't get across the 'pond' (unless, you work in a certain sector, perhaps). I have travelled to many parts of the US over 45+ years and still had to 'look up' what was meant by the "Big Four" - obviously knowing it had 'something' to do with business. I.e. I think everyone in the UK has heard and/or knows what the "Ivy League" is, but the "Big Four" really was a new one to me. 🤔 😅

This guy is not judging America, he is just stating facts describing the difference between living in Europe and the US. This guy starts off by saying he will have to bite his lips even before the video begins and then proceeds to say he cant take a California resident serious. Fact is the guy in the video even sugarcoated this video and still these Americans get offended.

My second cousin is an American police officer. I try to look at both sides and a week or so ago i saw 4 police officers in America were shot dead and too many police officers are shot dead. Yes America has more people in prison than most countries but if crime is high by definition the prisons will be full. Perhaps a reason America police officers shoot first is in part subconscious knowing how many of their officers are shot dead and giving the police guns and saying only shoot when shot at is a little illogical so the complex situations are bound to have variations and some will overreact and some will get shot. In the U.K. using a stun gun is more of an option with fewer guns in society , though more than a healthy amount of knives it would appear , hence the use of those yellow stun guns.

U.S. police kill about 5-6x as many civilians than the amount of police who are killed per annum. The amount of police killed in duty has been fairly consistent for the past century with occasional spikes and troughs. It’s much harder to find statistics for civilians killed by police in that period but the last decade has seen a steady increase year on year.
