10:35 no, that would not be rude. I think most servers will think you have somewhere to go after dinner. That would be the only reason here for immediately asking for the bill. Best to tell them immediately that you have an appointment so they can expedite your food. What would be rude, even in the Netherlands, is asking why someone is fat.

Personally for a vacation in the Netherlands I like to go to the southern part of Limburg. It's the most southern province we have. I think the nature is beautiful there and Maastricht (City), also you could easily go to Germany or Belgium from the south of Limburg. I also know that alot of people like to go to the Veluwe, that's a nature reserve. I grew up in this area and it's very pretty. I saw that they made a comment about the directness, personally I've never heard someone say to another person that they're fat. A lot of people are direct but they're not this rude. The person who made this comment will get called out on his behaviour.

People in The Netherlands and Europe in general go out to eat with family and friends and that will be hours in one restaurant. It is not like in the US where one table has multiple families come to eat at that table so the waitresses can make more tips. No one asks the bill right away in The Netherlands and Europe in general as there will be a lot added to that bill during those hours like wine, beer eyc. Waitresses wont like it when you ask the bill right away because you give them extra work by printing out more than one bill. Going out to dinner in The Netherlands and in Europe is a special occasion which most people only do a couple of times a year. It is about enjoying your time with friends and family. It can take till midnight eating out in a restaurant in The Netherlands. In other parts of Europe even till after midnight. Simply said waitresses dont work for tips so they dont need you to finish dinner as fast as possible so they can get another group of people in so they can tips of them. Eating out is a special occassion which for most people is only a couple of nights a year. Then you want to hang out with friends and family at the resaurant for as long as possible. My mother for example goes out to dinner with friends and she is often only back home after midnight. The bill is then asked at the end of the night because in those hours wine and desserts are added to the bill. Also Europeans like to be left alone by the waitresses and that they only come along a couple a times a night, they dont like waitresses hovering over them. Americans call that bad service also when they have to ask for the bill which it is not. You dont go to a restaurant to be looked upon by waitresses for you to leave as fast as possible so they can make more tips of the next group of people coming in at that same table. Europeans like to enjoy eating out for hours hanging out with friends and family.

If you just want to grab a quick bite, you don't go to a full service restaurant. There are plenty of places where fast food is served and in those places you 're most likely to pay directly after you placed your order. Eating in a restaurant in the Netherlands, or actually all over Europe is considered leisure time. So you're not expected to be in a hurry and staff is not providing bad service by letting you be, but granting you time to enjoy your food and your company.

You should also go to Utrecht, Rotterdam, Delft, Den Haag(The Hague), Den Bosch, Maastricht, Groningen and our "Dutch Disney" De Efteling for sure. a lot of cities outside of Amsterdam are also a lot less "touristy" than Amsterdam and also cheaper. A lot of those vending machines have been converted to card readers though, so it's possible to pay without coins these days.

For camping holidays I usually go abroad to Scandinavia, Germany or rural France. The Netherlands is basically one big suburb stuffed with high intensive farming. And for long weekend city trips I just go to cities throughout the continent. But in the Netherlands we do have beautiful cities such as Maastricht, Deventer, Goes, Nijmegen, Groningen, Delft, Leiden, Haarlem, Middelburg and Den Bosch And picturesque villages like Appingedam, Valkenburg aan de Geul, Hattem, Vesting Bourtange, Bronkhorst, Thorn, De Rijp, Naarden-Vesting, Giethoorn, Elburg, Orvelte, Wijk bij Duurstede, Doesburg, Heusden, Hoorn, Sneek, Zutphen, Bourtange and Veere Some other things to do depending on what you might like and wether it takes place when you’d be around: Carnaval (Maastricht) The Delta works (Oosterschelde, Rotterdam, Afsluitdijk, Lauwersmeer) De Veluwe , Veluwezoom and Hoge Veluwe (Nature parks a.o. in Rheden, Otterlo) Glow (Eindhoven) Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) Pinkpop Festival (Landgraaf) De Groote Peel (Nature park, Ospel) Het Loo Palace (Apeldoorn) Loonse and Drunense Dunes (Nature park, Drunen) Netherlands Open Air Museum (Arnhem) Efteling (amusement park in Kaatsheuvel) Rijksmuseum voor Oudheden (Leiden) Muiden Castle (Muiden) Naturalis (Leiden) Castle de Haar (Haarzuilens) Wisents / European bison watching (in nature parks Maashorst, Veluwe, Kraansvlak) Oerol Festival (Terschelling) Hunebedden (Assen, Emmen, Borger) Hermitage (Amsterdam) Castlefest (Keukenhof Lisse) De Maasduinen (Bergen) Begijnhoven (Amsterdam, Thorn, Utrecht, Breda, Delft, Haarlem) Apenheul (Monkeys!!! Apeldoorn) De Meinweg (Nature park, Herkenbosch) Naturalis (Leiden) Pink Monday (Tilburg) Pieterpad (multi-day hike trail) Dutch Design Week (Eindhoven) Royal Burgers' Zoo (Arnhem) Bonaire (in the Caribbean) Castle Gardens (Arcen) Feral horses watching (Oostvaardersplassen and pretty much all other nature areas a.o.) World Port Days (Rotterdam) De Biesbosch (Drimmelen) Zwarte Cross Festival (Lichtenvoorde) Elf Fantasy Fair (Haarzuilens, Arcen) Sail (Amsterdam) Escher Museum (Den Haag) Catherine’s Convent (Utrecht) Keukenhof (Lisse) I’m sure others will add more.

The Dutch are travellers and can be found all over the world. But the most favorite countries we travel to are Germany, France, Spain And Italy. This is because most of them can be reached easily with car and caravan, the preferred method of travel with kids. Without kids or if they are a bit older, flying is also done a lot as tickets are not expensive. Ibiza is an expensive island. Mallorca and mainland Spain with numerous beach towns are a lot cheaper to go to. But I love ibiza. 😍

people who don't live near the shore, like to go for vacation to the beach and people that live near the beach go to areas that are more foresty (if they want to stay in our country and of course some don't). I'm just back from a short break to just over the border with Germany. I like a bit of hills and forests, so that was nice. But ... as often in these parts of the globe, it was "a bit wet.".... You can't have everything.

Asking for the bill while you haven't finished your meal yet, is not considerd rude but maybe weird. But having the bill is one thing, but secondly is paying the bill. Those are two different things 🙃 Besides visiting other cities you can also visit parks. A famous one is De Hoge Veluwe. There's a museum too with famous painter like Van Gogh and Vermeer. There are bikes (for free) so you can bike all over the park. If you want to learn about the Dutch watermanagement, visit The Delta Works in the provence of Zeeland. Dutchies are all over the world. Where to go depends on how we want to travel (train, car, flying, etc.) and how long we want to go. Short holidays (5 days or so) will mainly be used to visit a city in another European country. Long holidays (2 or 3 weeks) are mainly used for leisure somewhere where there's sun and a beach.

Asking for the bill when you order is concidered rude, We like to sit and stay a while so if you ask for the bill and you order another drink or a dessert afterwards you just give the server more work to do. Thell often also first bring you the main menu card and after you eat the main menu you'll get the dessert card. You often dont order both at the same time. There are also snack vending machines where you can pay with card, but I dont think they're common.

No free refill. Your questionL ask your bill with your food? By drinks and a snack, no problem. By a restaurant (not fastfood) its not normal. We dont need to tip. Expecially not by a drink or snack. When you are going to eat for some hours, normally, when the food was good, you tip a little bit.

I'm Belgian, Flemish, and knowing my Dutch brothers they are direct, stingy and loud (to Belgian standards). But they are also friendly, no bullshit and when you're friends with one they'll be loyal. But I mean seriously, it's not a real country. In what country can you eat chease in the middle of a tulip field next to some windmill on a patch of land that was part of the bloody sea 200 years ago.

Walking on the bikepaths means certain death. 😂😂😂 Don't be affraid to ask for help in English. We love to help you and we all speak English. Don't go to Amsterdam, go to Utrecht! I was born and raised there. It's got everything Amsterdam has only with more friendly people.😊 Don't say you like Trump, you could get lynched. Don't be affraid to say you like Trump. You will get a lot of nice discussions but very serious discussions. Don't be affraid to say you're American. We love you guys/girls.(Unless you voted for Trump 😅,) Do go to Margraten cemetry in the south of The Netherlands. There you see how much we love you for giving us our freedom back. And last but not least: If you want to start a conversation, Talk about the weather! It does'nt matter if it's warm, cold, raining, snowing, windy or normal. The best opening line is: Wow, what about the weather today huh? And just agree with the person you talk with. And if you don't agree, explain why. But the best strategy is just agreeing. We LOVE to complain about the weather. You can even use it as an opening line to talk to a girl you find attractive in a bar! Sometimes someone will try to put you off balance and say: it was nice. Then you just say, yeah but a vew days ago it was a bit different. You're definitly get a conversation. Greetings from The Netherlands. It's dry now but the sun is irritating because I had to close the curtains to see your reaction. I think I go with my wife to a terrace when I get home. Because for tomorrow they have prodicted rain again...

Google and Apple Pay are sometimes possible, but don't count on it. It is usually not possible. Contactless payments are possible, but I am not sure if those work with foreign bankcards, credit or debit cards. However cash payments are still always possible, so having at least a little bit of cash on you might save you some trouble. Dutch people, have a tendency at least for summer to be abroad, main destinations are France, Italy, Spain and Greece I would say. And no, I won't tell you were to explore outside Amsterdam, because you need to discover the country. Go to smaller or at least lesser known places, and don't worry most people speak English. (The Netherlands has the highest proficiency in the English language, for non-native English speaking countries in the world.)

When I go on vacation I like to go to a place with mountains. I'm a huge fan of gemstones, I have a whole collection, but here you cant find any (ok one, jasper, it comes from the mountains in Germany and flows here though a river.). I like to go to Germany. I could go to france or belgium too but in france they speak french and often refuse to speak english. In belgium they speak eighter french or Dutch so they eighter refuse to speak english or they speak dutch and that gives me the feeling I never left the netherlands. Germans speak English and German is easier to learn/understand for us Dutchies so thats why my preference goes to germany. We're going to Germany this summer, to Idar-Oberstein, Its a village with lots of Gemstone mines, cutters and museums! Im so HYPED!

No, asking for the bill with the food, or getting up and walking to the counter to pay is not rude here. I do that sometimes when I am in a hurry. For me the American way of getting the bill as soon as you finished would feel rude: like they are saying "ok, you had your food, now get the hell out of here!". And of course "don't forget to pay our wages on the way out!" :)

I mostly travelled to the south of Europe during the holidays in my childhood. Mostly south of France, Italy & Spain. But I’m a culture guy, so I mostly do city trips all over Europe. I often do this by train, with the European Interrail system. Which allows me to travel across Europe, for a limited amount of money.

Wel the reason we don't get askt for a bill or askt to be helped a lot in shops comes from us wanted to be left alone. And shop/eat in peace. We even have shops with special baskets that tell the people working there to come help you or leave you alone. You can ask for a bill with your order.... we dont care. Just don't ask for more stuff afterwards you wil get an eye roll for making more work. And no sorry no free refills. For the train ticket it's is the opposite of the oystercard. We wil bill you for every kilometer you travel if you do not get a day pass. And your Amsterdam day pass is no good in Rotterdam. So plan travel trips per city. Holland is a very densely populated place so most people just "leave the city" going camp or to the beach somewhere. We seems to have a mystical attraction to water. So any destination with a body of it is good to us for vacation. Thanx for the Video ❤

Go to Groningen or the other towns in the north of the Netherlands. Or to the east or south, where you can over the border to Germany and Belgium without border control. The servers in the restaurants are not like in the US checking every second if everything is allright, it is the same all over Europe you have to wave a server for your bill. NO refills all over Europe. Europeans use their debit card like the US use their credit card. Some go to Scandinavia, some stay in the Netherlands, Some go to Germany, Some to Belgium, Some to France, Some to mainland Spain or the Canaries of Spain, Some go to Greece, Some go to Turkey, Some to Egypt, Some to Australia for holiday to name a few countries. It is not rude to order your food and ask for the bill at the same time, but they would think it's weird. How do you know how many drinks you will have during dinner, or what you are going to have for desert when you order your first or main, or maybe you want to have a few extra teas or coffees after your meal. Dinner usually takes a couple of hours. You're not in and out within an hour if you are having dinner.

Depends on the kind of place. I know a guy who owns a pancake ship, that's all about getting maximum number of servings per table, so it's aimed at children. Fancier places just want you to have a nice evening and not bother you too much, and certainly not rush you, and make a lot of their money on wine, desert and coffee with spirits afterwards. But if we have a certain time we have to move, I will just say so right away, also because some dishes take longer to prepare. Often you can also just walk up to the counter or bar to pay.
