While Kinder/Ferrero are not German companies, a lot of their candy are designed for the German market in particular. Also I don't think any of the refrigerated snacks are trying to be like ice cream, maybe these kind of soft "milk creams" are just less common in the US and more of a European thing. Also I'm not sure Germans don't like sour, the people who like it usually just source those products from Dutch companies or others. Similarly to the stereotype that we don't like spicy, there are some people that like it extremely spicy. I for example put extra hot chili oil and other spices into almost everything and I also like it extra sour.

not true, a very limited number of products are sold only in Germany and were thought for Germany or any other single market (Hanuta is one) and they are all anyway by Ferrero, Italian products from a 100% Italian company, in fact even Hanuta is made with Nutella, the super famous global Ferrero cream (in other countries they have different Nutella biscuits and snacks). The great majority of products sold in the 125 countries worldwide by Ferrero are also common to other markets, although not all the markets usually, as products get introduced slowly in different countries to maintain high profitability.

The correct way to enjoy Ahojbrause is Schüttelkorn. Think of it as a north German equivalent to tequila shots. Toffifee is the best thing ever, but the ads are lying to us all: a whole family, peacefully sharing one single package? That's impossible, never-ever^^ Usually it goes one package per person, at least with everyone I know. Bifi Carazza and Bifi Rolls are one of the main food items for football fans on away games, bc most of the bus drivers don't stop at gas stations with Burger King's for some reason so one had to make do with whatever they sell at gas stations :D so I ate a LOT of them before I became a vegetarian. That grave stone thing cracked me up, I actually threw away a whole bucket of Ahoj Brause I found in my late dad's things, they were five years old, I think, and tasted really weird.

I think the mild Lakritzschnecken are popular throughout but harder, more intensive ones (like the little kitten shaped ones from Katjes) or the very intense salty Danish? liquorice are certainly acquired tastes even for adults and many children won't eat them at all. Disgusting. Yogurette tastes best when refrigerated or frozen and the refrigerated snacks don't try to be like ice cream at all. Many kids take them to school with them as a sweet treat during breaks. For the "sour" part: I loved sour sweets as a child, but now they are just too rough on my teeth and palate. No more "center shock" for me. Congrats on the pregnancy! Great to see Audrey again. qotd: Not sure which of the two times, but one should definitely go.

Yogurette is especially nostalgic to me because my brain automatically connects it to visits to my great-grandmother about 20 years ago. We would play "Mensch-ärgere-dich-nicht" and it would be the prize for the first round. She insisted on letting me win, so I still suck at loosing to this Day. 😅 but she was a great person. Also, Ahoi Brause is really popular for some sorts of Drinking in Clubs, namely "Schüttelwodka" or in Northern Germany "Schüttelkorn". You put the Brausepulver in your mouth and take a shot of either wodka or korn - and then you shake your Head, just as the Name suggests, while you have both in your Mouth. 😬

If you want to try some more liquorice, try "Katjes Katzenkinder". They're a bit harder to chew than "Haribo Lakritzschnecken" but also taste better, in my opinion. And my favourite, but takes slightly more effort to prepare: Vanillepudding, like "Dr. Oetker Pudding Vanille-Geschmack" (or any other brand), the kind where you have to cook the milk. When the instructions talk about "2 tablespoons of sugar", do not flatten the sugar on the spoons, use as much as they will hold. And when they tell you to cool the pudding down, ignore that and eat it as warm as possible, either as it is or with a copious amount of "Schokostreusel" (let them melt a bit). And another childhood favourite of mine: Banana-Milk. Take about 0.75l of milk ("Vollmilch"), 3.5% or more fat, put a banana into it, add a tea spoon of honey (experiment on how much is best) and a raw egg (so this might not be ideal for Aubrey at the moment). Then mix it really well (one of those Blender-style mixers works best). (/edit: almost forgot the banana here)

Best common potato chips are the ones from Funny Frisch. I do like Paprika but prefer Peperoni (Chili/Spicy). There are of course smaller more artisinal brands but those you can´t get everywhere.

oh wow Aubrey! Pregnancy suits you well, you look sooo beautiful and bright today! I confess I've missed you. :) Well you both love Toffifee and yes, it is a real classic! My BF always says "don't gift me one, once opened I can't stop until it is empty!" I am 60 years old now, and my favorite classic is Hanuta. (btw. short form for "HAselNUssTAfel" - hazelnut board). I remember the days in summer when we kids went to the public "Freibad" (outdoor pools) to swim and splash around, which made us hungry. Then counting the money our parents handed us for this day. Calculating how many Hanuta we can get for it. And then running to the Snack Bar to grab as much as possible! We ate them sitting in the meadow, wrapped in our towels and were simply happy! But my definite favorite is what didn't impress you much: Kinder Pingui. I am too old to call it a "classic" yet, but I love love love it, just because of the texture and the cream. You will never see me coming out of a supermarket without one 😉

When it comes to licorice, I never really liked it but I love Salzdiamanten. Diamond shaped licorice covered in sugar. They're more sweet than licorice flavoured, in my book.

I usually had Vodka Ahoj Brause. You put the Ahoj Brause pulver in your mouth and keep it there. Then you quickly add a shot of Vodka, mix it with the Ahoj Brause in your mouth by shaking your head before you swallow the mix. University taught me well ;)

What a selection...half of the stuff isn't actually that good, but has really, really good advertising. The only thing I would recommend is the Toffifee, the Hanuta and the Liquorish (if you are into Liquorish). Btw, the thing with specifcally the "Schnecken" is that they are a stable at children birthdays, because there are a number of games you can play with them (yes, really). Oh, and the idea that Germans don't like sauer...yeah, wrong. I mean we eat Rhubarb! You can't go more sauer than that without sucking on a lemon. We even have a saying "Sauer macht lustig".

Ferrero took Germany by storm in the late 1960s with children's chocolate. As a child I was very fond of it. I was already too old for Fruchtzwerge when they came out. One of my favorites has always been Hanuta. I hardly eat anything sweet anymore, I'm more the chip type.

When i started my jobtraining ( Lehre) in 1982, you could order meals at the ,training center', this contained allways a sweet dessert. One day this was a Fruchtzwerg. One of the boys was disappointed: A ,Fruchtriese' ( fruit giant) would be better!

In all of my almost 62 years on this planet, I never had a Fruchtzwerg. But nicknaming Howard 'Fruchtzwerg' (original name: Fruity Loops) in the Big Bang Theory was a stroke of genius by the translator, especially since they could have easily kept the original. As for licorice: I absolutely hate it. It's more of a Northern Germany habit. Vice versa: I love sour treats.

half of our family loved Lakritze (especially my grandmother and also my mother loved those snails, which have to be unrolled to a long thread for eating them), the others hated it. and i may not vote for or against because i can't eat it without getting a "breath cramp" for 1-2 minutes where everybody else thinks that i'll die from getting no air (and to me it also feels like that), and for this effect i even only need to have a short lick at it.

The refrigerated kinder snacks are their own category. Most of them have a thick whipped cream (almost marshmallow-y but different) filling that needs to be refrigerated. My personal favorite is Milchschnitte. :)) Lakritzschnecken are a very mild & commercialized version of licorice. I like them a lot. As a kid I used to unroll them first, then split the long thread in half & tie them together and then eat it like a long spaghetti. Pfirsichringe are just the weird little brother of Apfelringe (apple flavor) which are of course superior. ^^ My favorite paprika flavored chips are the funnyfrisch ones in "ungarisch". They have a smoky paprika (like the spice) flavor that I really like.

Prinzenrolle and most of its generic counterparts are pretty amazing. I remember giving a friend from Indonesia a piece of an organic Prinzenrolle knockoff, and he enjoyed it way more than the original because that one was way too sweet for his taste. Also, I once brought a glass of real Cornichons to a party with friends once, and it was the ladies in particular who loved them. I don't know if it was rather about the taste or the calory count that they went for them instead of what is usually considered a party treat.
