I enjoyed this video. Shame you let the crumpets cool. You really need to toast crumpets until they are golden and put the butter on and eat while still piping hit. The butter drips down into the inside of the crumpet, which makes it messy, but it does make it delicious. Clotted cream is one of those things that tastes nothing in particular by itself, but it really enhances the flavour of so many other things. If you can get freshly baked scones even better (though I would be inclined to eat the two halves separately rather than together - better ratio of jam, cream scone). You could also the butter on the scone instead of jam and cream - that works as well. The Guinness Cheese though just looked weird and your faces said it all. Glad you enjoyed the rest though

Good to see you liked the Colliers, my all-time favourite supermarket cheese. Crumpets have to be toasted until the top is just going hard and a little brown then buttered when hot, the butter melts and soaks down into all those spongy holes, its winter warmer heaven. Red Leicester cheese is particularly good cooked, great in a grilled cheese sandwich. You need to get some Branston Pickle (which is not related in any way to what American’s call pickles) then you can have a proper cheese and pickle sandwich.

Living in Cornwall, it's against the law to put cream first then jam, the argument is that the scone is warm so the clotted cream would melt. The UK has more types of cheese than the french, a incredibly useful piece of information! Muffins and crumpets, the difference is that muffins are a bread dough that you bake whilst the crumpets bread dough is more of a batter mix that you cook in a pan using a crumpets ring. They are easy to cook but no one does it as they are cheap and easy to buy here. Great video, Stilton is a must, there is also a soft cheese called stinking bishop that's popular, smelly name, smelly cheese😄
@BigJonTV5 жыл бұрын
Ok I felt like the crumpet had more of a Yorkshire pudding texture, which makes sense if they are both made with batters! The jam then cream on a warm scone makes sense... We will have to see if we can find those cheeses around here as they've been recommended a couple times! ❤Jess

Yo! Some good traditional cheese there. The Red Leicester (pronounced 'Lester', btw) should be just very slightly dry and have a barely detectable sweetness in the aftertaste. The Cheddars you picked are mature ones that should have a strong, creamy/nutty taste and firm texture, though there are milder ones as well. In fact Cheddar comes in a huge variety and may be thought of as the standard British cheese. For variety, I'd have liked to see you tackle a Blue Stilton. A tip with the crumpets.... butter and eat straight from the grill while they're still hot. Oh, and when toasting 'em, don't stop until the outside is hard/crisp and going brown.

You can make proper clotted cream at home. Just fill a wide, shallow baking dish with heavy cream and leave it in your oven for 12 hrs at it's lowest setting. The result is a bit of a cross between sweet cream and thick evaporated milk, and it should have a golden crust on top.

Crumpets were originally made to be toasted Infront of an open fire using a toasting fork so you could have a hot snack without using the kitchen in the days when ovens used solid fuel and couldn't just be turned on. British cheese is very different from American cheese because of the way the milk is treated. US milk is UHT treated, ours is pasturised so you cant make cheese the way we do here. US milk is banned in Europe and Britain. Clotted cream is double cream thst is scalded and.left to form a thick crust, thats the clotted part, its used mainly for cream tea here in Cornwall, cream first then jam. Crumpets and muffins are completely different things and Leicester is pronounced Lester. Entertaining video shame you didnt get a better mix of cheeses, never heard of any of those brands. 💖

Goats milk cheese is usually pretty good but too rich to have much of.

Great video, just one tip for next time you eat Scones, you never cut them with a knife, you prise them open with a fork, they kind of have a natural split already in them and you just slide the fork in and twist it which makes the crumpet break into two, the fresher they are the easier they break and you should try baking your own as they're super easy to make, the trick is handling the dough as little as possible then letting them cool slightly but eat while still a little warm from the oven, they're heavenly freshly made, so delicious!

American "biscuits" (actually a misnomer) are salted scones,not the other way round! Real biscuits are actually crispy cookies. We have three main scones, plain, fruit and cheese and (surprise surprise) cheese is my favourite mmmmmm. A crumpet should be served hot so the butter melts through the holes they taste so much better hot and a traditional scone would be buttered then jam and then cream but through time people stopped buttering their scones, suppose thats why they use clotted cream. clotted cream is normally only used in cakes and with fruits.

You think these cheeses stink? You should try Stinking Bishop. It's a creamy cheese and is well named.

I have a friend from California that now lives in London. She say's our cheapest cheese is better than America's expensive cheese ( that's her not me) so you can imagine the choice we have. We will have to arrange some more for you to try as you seemed limited on what you can get there. Enjoyed the vid though.

Most of the cheese available in the local grocery stores is pretty bland. But if you find some from one of the small cheese factories it is pretty good. ❤Jess

The red and white Leicester cheese is pronounced "Lester" cheese. Clotted cream is cooked cream, you can get much thicker clotted cream which has been cooked longer and tastes better. Top tip... Use the clotted cream in abundance, literally spoon it on. British scones are indeed American biscuits, sweet and savoury are available. You can add cheddar cheese to a savoury biscuit for cheese scones. Crumpets should be served hot, fresh from the toaster with both the top and bottom crispy and allow large amounts of butter to melt into the inside making it a lavish snack, also tastes great with added jam/jelly. You can even try a crumpet and then melt cheese into the top under the grill... Delicious! Keep up the great work.

I think you should try White Stilton, or if your tastes can stand it, Blue Stilton. It is far better than Danish Blue from the European mainland. (I was weaned on Danish Blue - first solids I ever had) The above cheeses are all made from Cow's milk. The only European Cheese which comes near Blue Stilton is St Agur which is made from Sheep's milk in central France, even though wikipedia says it is made from Cow's milk. If you are going to cook with British Cheese, I would reccomend Red Leicester of any make because it will melt quicker than any cheddared cheese. It also has a lot of Anatto which is the colour and this will colour your cheese sauce beautifully.

Toast the crumpets to a nice golden brown and when you spread the butter you should be able to hear the knife going across the crumpet then put plain cheddar on it then place under the grill and let the cheese melt "delicious" breakfast

Brilliant family, than you for trying our cheeses! I’m glad you liked them. It’s also a shame you wasn’t sent the muffins from a bakery. Far better than those that come in the packs (even though they are still lovely 😁)

Crumpets should be toasted until they're crunchy on the outside then immediately buttered so that the butter melts and runs into the holes. Whichever way you have your jam cream you never put two halves together, that's just wrong. Your son has good taste, collier cheddar is beautiful.

Its great to see our cousins across the pond now have access to our fine cheeses. When I worked and lived in Florida many years ago the cheeses were awful, burger cheese, cheese in an aerosol can and a bit of import edam was about you lot twenty years ago. Hopefully your taste buds have been suitably stimulated to dive deeper into the world of English cheeses, probably some of the best in the world.

When you have scones have them fresh and warm from the oven, then jam first with whipped thick double cream on top (the jam helps to stop the cream melting) then put the top on, serve with proper English tea.

it also depends on which breed of cow and what type of grass it consumes during the summer months i'm not sure how your cows are fed but just letting them graze in a pasture field is the right way instead of mostly hay and grains

If its not going in a scone for a cream tea then clotted cream is best used in the creation of ice cream. Look out for some Cornish ice cream that has clotted cream in it, it really takes ice cream to a new level

Did you mean Leicestershire cheese? It is pronounced lestershr cheese.
@albee81655 жыл бұрын
Actually, it is just Red Leicester, not Leicestershire. Pronounced Lesta. Leicester is where, a few years ago, they discovered King Richard III s bones under a car park! He died in a battle in Bosworth, which is near me, and after an argument with Leeds, where he was born, he was incarcerated in Leicester cathedral.

Scones are not biscuits. They’re scones lol. The best way to eat scones is when they’re fresh out of the oven and still slightly warm, then add the clotted cream and black currant jam and make sure you have a cup of Yorkshire tea to wash it all down.
