I must say this is one of the best Tivoli impressions videos I have seen. I like watching how foreigners reacts to my country, so I have seen my fair share, but many Tivoli videos just seem samey to me, like highlight reels with little personality. I love your knowledge and experience on the subject and your two personalities fit very well. On another note, just before you went into the H.C. Andersen ride, I thought to myself that I hoped you would try that out, because I had the feeling Katie would enjoy it a lot. Glad you did.

17:55 funny story about these boats. My dad used to serve in the Danish navy and one day when their ship was in Copenhagen harbor, he and his mates got the evening off and went to Tivoli. It also happened that a Swedish navy ship was also in Copenhagen harbor at the time and a couple of their sailors visited Tivoli too. The two groups of sailors happened to run into each other and toured the park together and they got the idea that all of them get into the boats and had a mini Danish/Swedish navy battle in the middle of Tivoli, with lots of spectators who were greatly amused.

@@disKoverwithKatieandAndrew A little warning, though I havent been there myself in those times, but have family who have, and have advised against it. It is PACKED with people, so much so that they could hardly move forward. If you, like most other americans I've heard of, have need of personal space when you go places, prepare to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers the entire time. If you can manage that, then yes, it should really be a sight to behold!

Something to note about the vendor shops inside Tivoli, is that they're privately owned and operated -which is part of the reason why they don't appear as some franchised merch stores. Each shop owner has their own themes and items they sell, and it isn't controlled by Tivoli itself (ofc they oversee what is being sold, but they don't actively enforce any specifics or Tivoli themed guideline like you'd see in most American theme parks where the park typically owns everything.

Further clarification: Some are Tivoli operated and some are not. All rides are Tivoli operated (as opposed to Bakken), Restaurants and easy food / beverage is a 50/50 mix and most carnival game stalls and souvenir shops are private (Tivoli Gift Shop / Little Tivoli being the exception). Arcade games are 100% Tivoli operated. Season stalls are a mix as well with souvenirs usually being private and easy food and beverage being Tivoli.

Walt Disney actually visited Tivoli many times to get inspiration to his Disneyland. Yes, Tivoli is in the middle of Copenhagen, but when Tivoli opened in 1843, it was actually located just outside one of the gates into what was the fortified city of Copenhagen. Copenhagen was up to the mid 1850s a fortified city with 4 gated entrances of which one was approximately where City Hall Square is today. The lake in Tivoli is a remnant of the moat that once surrounded Copenhagen. The last part of the moat was filled in around 1888.

4:57 - That's Rasmus Klump. A very popular and well know cartoon in Denmark. He and his friends were created by the married couple Vilhelm Hansen and Carla Hansen. Vilhelm Hansen was the artist behind the amiable figures, while Carla was the author and wrote the texts for the comics.

Some quick fun facts: The pirate ship is "just" a restaurant. The wierd animal you saw at the begining, that you were wondering about is a seal. He's from some old danish comics called "Rasmus Klump", the same are the other animals standing next to him (The Bear, the Pinguin and the Pelican) The Fun house you were in stands mostly unchanged from back when I was a kid back in the 70's. The oldest still existing amusement partk in the world, Bakken which is nearly 450 years old, is just some 10 miles from Tivoli.

It's also very beautiful in December with all the Christmas decorations and fairylights and the stalls selling all sorts of Christmas treats that you can smell all over the park. It's very charming and romantic. I haven't been during december in many years, but last I was there, there were Christmas markets with trees surrounding them like little villages in pine forests. It was very nice. If you're ever in Denmark during December, you should check it out. Lot of the cities here also puts up the same kind of wooden cottages surrounded by forests of buyable Christmas trees. They usually sell very nice things and foods, but some are a *bit* expensive. But It's a charming experience :)

It´s very simple. If you wanna try just 3 things/rides it´s cheaper to buy the ride pass. I think it´s done like this deliberately so that you do not have to take out your wallet all the time but just can go around and enjoy what you want. If you never been to Tivoli before you should definitely buy the pass. By the way. Remember your tickets are valid all day/night the day you purchase it so you can decide to leave the park for other sightseeing, meals, a nap at the hotel, etc and still come back. Two nights a week there are fireworks at midnight. Rides close at midnight and normally empties is empty 00:40 ish.

While Tivoli NOW is in the middle of Copenhagen, back when it was founded, it was the first thing to be allowed outside the city's moat and ramparts! Actually the lake in Tivoli is part of the old moat surrounding the medieval Copenhagen! If you look at a map of Copenhagen today, you can see where the moat and ramparts used to be: Start at Tivoli, and then follow a semi circle north and east all the way up to the star fortress of "Kastellet". on the way you will see several parks/ green spaces, which the leftovers of the old defences! For a more complete history of Copenhagen, do visit the Museum of Copenhagen, not far from Tivoli and the National museum of Denmark! And BTW ... It's nice to hear you've done your research properly! SO many You-tubers mistakenly say that Tivoli is the second oldest Theme park in the world ... Ever heard of Pratter in Vienna, Austria? Opened in 1766! Though we STILL have the oldest theme park with Bakken (1583), which started around spring in Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen. ;)

It is much better than the ones in Tivoli, I think. And yes. The small houses in the lake are for the ducks.

i´m so happy you had an amazing time in Tivoli Gardens. it is a beautiful place and they have halloween and christmas which is absolutely magical. I live about 15 minutes from there and go all the time, we can purchase different tiers of yearly passes and we have two, one for me with included wristband for one person unlimited rides and then we have a card that allow us to bring in four friends and four children aged 3-7 on the card + 25% discount on the wrist bands for the rides. I go for several concerts every year "Fredags Rock" which host great artists, both Danish but also other artists from around the world. Again, i am happy that you had a magical time there and yes, we are also addicted to our phones but when we go out, we spend time with our family/friends and enjoy the sights and surroundings :)

It's not normal for foreigners to actually like our liquorice 😄 but yeah, mixed with chocolate, honey and/or ice cream it gets easier. The kind of ketchup you had with your bratwurst is what we'd call sausage ketchup, it's got quite a bit of apple porridge in it, making it taste more fruity and sweet. Heinz is more considered a general purpose ketchup that works okay with fries. Don't know if you tried the mustard too, we have a whole range of that to choose from as well, ranging from sweet french to American yellow to regular Danish, dijon and not least the coarse German sausage mustard. And then there's Remoulade, which isn't necessarily a Danish invention, we just perfected it. Did you try a Danish red or grilled hotdog with "the usual" while visiting? Anyway, Tivoli isn't huge, the number of rides is quite limited and nothing outrageous. But it has a great location and the garden part is impeccable. A lot of locals have a season entry pass, just to be able to go enjoy the park when they feel like it. The unlimited rides pass is expensive, but single ride tickets are way more, so if you plan to have 3 rides or more, you might as well get the unlimited wristband. And for wealthy families with kids it makes sense to get a room at the Nimb hotel that has exits directly to the gardens... just let the kids roam freely within the park and a wristband with a phone number and you can enjoy it at your own pace.

You should have used the bow with the arrow placed to the other side, at the same side as the arm! It is much more stable when shooting that way! And the Rollercoaster is Old but I hardly think much original is still left, as most has been replaced during the years. By that it became blown up by the Germans during the war as a retribution, and just a short time ago, the last of the "mountains" has been rebuilt as originally!

Regarding cameras/phones - as a dane I believe people should ask themselves two questions: "Am I or others really ever going to look at all that footage again?" and "Is obtaining this footage worth it as opposed to enjoying the experience to the fullest in the moment?". I think most danes would say no to the latter and choose the full experience and that's why you'll see a lot fewer cameras here than in many other countries. We might take a few pictures to show the overall ambience or something truly special but that's about it. Of course, if you're making content it's an entirely different story. Glad to see you had fun. 😄👍

the cream on top of ice in denmark is often made of 38% buttermilk that has been wiped. but alot of places also mixe it up with milk I think, so the amount buttery taste can differ. personally i prefere the pure buttermilk wipped. if you wont good quality ice in denmark i would recommend "Beier" they make there ice cream them self and you can mustly just ask if you can have a taste test before deciding wich ice you wonna buy, its also a good way to test if it got crystals in it (could happen now and then)

Just a small correction, also to Danes. Walt Disney had allready decided to build a theme park. One that was better than his first. Which was just amusemnt park with some rides and not much more. He had conceptualized his vision for this new park and the feeling one should get when visiting his park, or the 'vibe' as we would say today. And it's when he visits Tivoli that he for the first time experienced that feeling he imagined people should feel when visiting his future amusement park. And it's in this way Tivoli inspired Walt Disney. Tivoli showed him how to create a park that sort of gives you a warm fluffy hug. Walt Disney had already planned out what later became disney land. Infact he visited Tivoli because he was on a research trip.

And probably spend a fortune on the arcade machines. in the weird dystopian future we live in currently where most banks is cashless & dont even have a cash machine, the park is still one of the best places to get cash if you need bills & coins. Smartphones i certainly still a plague in copenhagen. It isnt uncommon to see someone young trying to multitask starting into their phone, holding a starbucks coffee, wearing big music headphones while driving on a bicycle. How they manage to steer (and is still alive) is beyond me. Currently the tv is showing a goverment commercial warning parents about kids being targeted on smart phones.

Pity that you chosed the cheap food, some is actually quite bad, next time you should go to for example "Grøften" more expensive ? yes but it's worth it
