(Especially if they're from a state bordering the state you mentioned because then there will be an active rivalry). It's good natured but it's just who we are. Ya, I live in MA. Whenever I go more than a border state away, there is a 50/50 chance that the people (who live in America), either don't know how to pronounce it, or just don't even know it exists! As someone who was born and raised in Boston, I can confirm. When I was in my early 20s, I went to Dublin, Ireland and literally felt like I had flown 7 hours and landed back in Boston. It was weird for sure. I know you think "Oh yea right, maybe it's a little similar" and no, I mean it literally had the vibe, the look, the way the streets are laid out, everything. If I was from California and spent a week in Boston and you then took me to Dublin and said I was still in Boston, I wouldn't question it for a second. And I went to other cities like Cork, etc and felt like I was in a foreign country while I was there. It was just Dublin. Weird.

No poisonous animals really but don't leave the bunnies outside, the fisher cats will rip them apart, google them. Honestly the California earthquake thing is a bit overblown. The whole "overdue" thing is mostly just a scientifically illiterate media misunderstanding how earthquakes happen and how likely they are. I've lived here all my life, and I rarely even feel them. That said, I was alive for the 89 quake. I was 2 and have no memory of it, but apparently my mom almost dropped me down some stairs. So yeah... overblown by media, but still respect nature. EDIT: Aaaaaaand there was a small earthquake last night that I very much felt. XD Only a 3.5, but still. Lovely coincidence. Nowadays the annual fires are a FAR more serious threat. So it's still not really bunny-safe.

Massachungus (Mass-achu-sets) is the best. We are the OG, the cradle of liberty, where it all started etc. we’ve got the best schools, hospitals, famous restaurants and entertainment venues. You can go from hiking around the white mountains in the evening to hanging with friends in Boston a couple hours later. It’s really well rounded.

Tornadoes are way less dangerous than they sound. I've lived in Tornado Alley my entire life, and when the alarms go off, everyone knows you don't run to the basement, you run outside to see if you can get a glimpse of the cyclone. There's hundreds of tornadoes a year, and maybe ten of them actually do any significant damage. And then, once in a blue moon, you get one like the one that tore straight through Joplin Missouri and ripped the whole town apart, but that is exceptionally rare.

I've lived in a lot of the country so I can tell you nowheres actually safe, every region has its own way of disposing of bodies. However Oregon is pretty good in the right areas, I live in Northwest Oregon and we have a few dormant volcanoes and light flooding every once in a while but the high elevation and how used to it everyone is makes it irrelevant. The summer fires kind of suck but we keep them away from the cities for the most part and the wild life isn't all that bad. You might get attacked by a goose, although the Canadian immigrant ones are pretty friendly and the jerk American geese can't really do much if you stand your ground. The water is safe to swim in in most areas so you just got to avoid bears and cougars and snakes but if you make noise when traveling through the woods they would prefer to avoid you. Just remember it's pronounced organ and you should be good, other than that you just got to deal with crazy humans but those psychotic monstrosities are everywhere.

Ahem. ANITA! New York isn’t just New York City ya know, yeesh. Most of Long Island is nice and then you have a massive amount of areas in Northern and Western NY state that are absolutely gorgeous. I would know, as I live in one of those upstate counties. I walk out of our supermarket and my view is a mountainside covered in trees. We are surrounded by farms with moo moos and horses! Lots of crop land also :) NY /= just NYC! This public service announcement has been made in a joking manner poking fun at anyone that looks at NY as nothing more than the small area NYC happens to occupy ;) The rest of NY is offended! :)

Take a peek at the Driftless Area. Wisconsin,Minnesota, and the NE corner of Iowa. There is some VERY nice hill country there. Lakes, trout streams, small rivers, and the Mighty Mississippi. There are hills of all sizes except no real mountains. In summer you can rent a big pontoon boat, get a sober operator, and party your brains out all day if you like, zigzagging from little river town to little river town hitting the bars and spending all your hard earned cash on drinks and touristy things in small shops. Pontoon boats also come in a houseboat version you can sleep in.

Depends on how much cold and how much snow you want to deal with. Massachusetts? Yeah. Too much snow and cold. North Carolina will get below freezing maybe 2-3 weeks in the winter with very little snow. If it snows, it usually melts in a day or two. Top 80 percentiles for both air quality and water quality. People are friendly but will also let you know if you done em wrong. People also tend to live long lives here due to the air, water, laid back style and moonshine =P. If you need warmer climates, South Carolina takes it up a notch with a lot of similarities to NC. Both are connected to the Atlantic ocean but if you live on the western edge of the state, it's almost 7 hours to the beach. Land is still relatively cheap compared to a lot of states and taxes where I am are super low.
