Please note: this is more for entertainment purposes than educational purposes and was filmed without a script or any planning whatsoever. Also, these are two fully intact males that do not normally interact with each other and aren't "friends" per se. Therefore, we keep them both on a tight leash and don't give the opportunity for any stupidity from either one.
In this video, we give your our opinion on the two breeds and you get to see both breeds in close proximity to each other to get a better idea on how they stack up against one another. I'm a big fan of both breeds but think the Rottweiler is a bit of a safer bet when it comes to temperament if you were to buy one for your family. Cane Corsos are notoriously protective of the homestead possibly to a fault. In short, they can be very dangerous due to their short fuse and are highly suspicious of strangers. Couple that with their incredible size, strength, and very high pain tolerance they are very easy to get cranked up and very hard to bring back down.
Rottweilers are also extremely powerful animals and more than capable of protecting a house and family based on their size and intimidation factor alone. However, I think they are a little more stable with temperament and attitude and are less likely to blow a fuse when a stranger comes to the house. Also, I believe they can be more handler sensitive and responsive to corrections and discipline.
Both can make excellent family pets if you know what you're doing. If you don't, and you fail to train them than they can also become a serious liability.

I've always owned Boxers or Rottweilers. After they passed, we just finally got a Cane Corso. He's now 9mo at 116#. He has been my easiest to train, but very strong and a handful. I am enjoying this breed. We had a grandson's bday party when he was 6mo old; he did amazing. Didn't bother all the people or their food. I was extremely impressed with his demeanor. We went out of town recently and have taken him to getting washed. Everyone he comes in contact with loves him. I would take another Cane Corso again for sure!! I love watching your videos, and want to thank you so much for helping me add more additions to his training schedule. Thanks again for all you do. ;)

@@gtjovan Rotts are easier, but OMG, I am loving the Corso. Train them young or you will definitely have a heavy, bullheaded dog. They are amazing. He plays like a bully, because they certainly don't know their strength. I have to constantly remind my grandchildren that, once he starts playing, they could accidentally get hurt. He's so much bigger than them, but he listens to them very well. I love watching the grandkids become pack leaders and teach him their commands or signals. He just gets it so quickly. Please note that like all dogs, you have to keep a very watchful eye, and give discipline immediately. If not, they will rule you. He knows the rules, but sometimes tries to do what he wants. You can't wait to alpha that shit. We immediately get him back on track. ;)

You need to try an American Bulldog, looks almost identical to a pit, but is bigger (and still in standard) and has a much better personality. Granted, as others have said, all dogs are individuals, but AB's OFTEN have better personality's and attitudes and are a lot less likely to "go bad" on you. Especially since the dang drug-dealers messed up the pit-bull breed so badly, sigh.

Nice video and comparison, I have to say! How do you compare Corsos to the traditionell flock guardian dogs like, Caucasian Sheperds, Kangals and the "white" European breeds (Pyrenese, Maremmano, Kuvasz, etc.)? I guess in terms of socialization it is very comparable. We had several flock guardian breeds now, and if proper socialized, they are also wonderful, though managable home guard dogs. I would even say, in my experience, they get used to "routine", e.g., your example with the mail man. As soon as they recognize the mail man is something regular occuring, they accept his regular presence (while still observing him extremely carefully).

Correction...South African Boerboel (pronounced) boorbull. Is indeed a 175-200 pound dog and intense in temperament. However they are NOT a fighting dog. They were bred originally as a homestead protector/guardian. Their name translated from Afrikaans literally means "farmers dog" some but not all Boerboels are livestock guardians it's hit or miss in that regard. Overall it's a giant athletic and powerful guard dog.

I gather the variation with Corsos is very broad based on the lines (like a GSD). Curious how a solid working Corso compares to some other considerations like a Presa Canario, Dogo Argentino, or American Bulldog.
@GarmrK9
@GarmrK9 Жыл бұрын
A solid working cane is a unicorn. Amazing but hard to find. They tend to be weak nerved and people mistake fear aggression for bravery. Easier to find a serious rottie or american bulldog. Presa....they are a league of their own. Dogos tend to have more animal aggression and less man aggression. Rotties have more man aggression less animal aggression. Presa....dgaf. Of course these are broad generalizations. I will not own another cane. For me,as someone who loves a truly strong solid nerved dog, I am disappointed in 99% of the cane breed. I would take a nice American bulldog, rottie, or Presa over a cane corso ANY DAY.

I think there is something very special about Rotties. I owned one growing up, she considered me to be her owner. She may have been stubborn at times though. But she did quite an amazing thing. She never ever bit me, nipped me, jumped on me without permission, and would never even play tug of war with me. She had that rigid respect for me, and would never risk hurting me at all. She would nip the other dogs, my parents, and would try to dominate the situation with them. She would play rough with the other dogs and my dad, but she just never took that chance with me. She was always emotionally so much more intelligent than any other dog I’ve ever had. That being said, they’re just different like that. Training intelligence not so much. Corso’s absolutely have them beat there. But in terms of ferocity of defense, I bet they’re on par. I want both breeds so bad lol

Owned both, worked with both. Rotties are smarter lol Not sure what rotties you've been working with? Also, rotties tend to have better nerves/ be more serious. I am not impressed by 99% of cane I have met. I am not biased and currently own neither breed at this time (unlike this youtuber who is obviously biased towards canes). I would pick a presa over a cane if I were to get another mastiff breed. Cane tend to be less brave, less athletic, less intelligent, and less serious than presa. I do love the cane colors but meh not the weak nerves. People who think a majority of cane are hard serious dogs have not owned a presa or fila. A dog that's scared of lightening also is not impressive to me and exactly the weak nerves I'm speaking of, unfortunately.

@@jrunna198 I have been around a lot of cane corsos. They are not as athletic as dogos or presas (on average). They are more athletic than English mastiffs but....that means nothing. Additionally, just because they were bred for something doesn't mean many still are able to do the job. 99% are washed out because of poor breeding and lack of temperament and health testing. They are a dog that has become too popular outside of the working dog world and it has watered down the breed. It is very difficult to find a working cane corso with strong nerves and good hips.

Everyone has a favorite. One think I don't like about the course is the reverse bite . If it comes to actual bite and hold the Rottweiler will exceed just based on structure of the jaw. The original Italian mastiff that was used as a base to create the Cane Corso had a standard sizer bite but due to crossing with boxer and bigger sales on puppies with reverse bite the breed pushed away in to this. It is just one of those things. Also breeding in to heavier and heavier dogs always make the dog more and more prone to hip and elbow issues. Again the original dog was about 100 pounds but now with it's new trend the dogs get too heavy and can no longer do it's original purpose to be a farm dog and it is getting closer and closer to the Neapolitan Mastiff and English Mastiff really big dogs but not really able to do anything except to sit and wait because simply they get exhausted too fast.

I got a Rottweiler w/ no experience. Don’t get puppy mill puppies they shit everywhere. Choose calmer dogs in the litter, but not ones that are just lethargic and aren’t moving. Shoot for somewhere in between the highest and lowest energy pup in the litter. Be gentle with them and flatten out aggressive or unwanted behaviors as puppies (p much just ignoring them when they do that and making a tsch noise) and they’ll never be scared of you so they won’t hurt you. Walk them everyday and they’ll be calm if you have a hyper dog. Have a schedule. Should include things like potty walks, feeding times, exercise times, crating times, and training times. Keep a calm and assertive attitude the entire time, if he does something that makes you mad don’t get frustrated and make a tsch noise to let them know that that was bad.

How many Cane Corso compete in schutzhund, what were the average scores you observed, especially in obedience and tracking, do they typically get a korung, an AD, BST. Credidibility is better served by not making generalities.

My fear of the cane corso is same I had with previous rotties I owned is they can’t distinguish play from aggression. Had to stress to my kids don’t horse around with your friends when dogs around. Even though the dogs were brought up with the neighborhood kids in and out they tolerated no aggression to family. Thankfully the kids both ours and their friends understood this

I thought you were completely wrong about the Rottwiler one. regarding the intelligence and the Butterfly Effect, actually also the watchdog entities you talk about. I live in Denmark and know both rats and canes. I have never met a really smart cane corso. on the other hand, all rats in the clubs are clever dogs. here in Denmark they breed after 130-160 pounds for male dogs, and they are known for if you break into a home with a Rottweiler, you have to be picked up in an ambulance. cane corsos are typically 105-120 for male dogs in this country. on watchdog instinct, it is at the top. totally agree. but almost too much. a rottweiler can roam free on a country estate and guard. a corso can't do that. it has too much drive, wants to hunt and eat everything. and then there is the one with the cane corso is usually very bad with other dogs, especially male dogs.. beautiful dog a cane corso but no thanks.

Are you saying a rottweiler is more trustworthy off leash on acreage then? Is a rottweiler more apt to come when called than a Corso, all other factors being equal? Can they be called off or called back from engagement? What about prey drive? Would a rottweiler respect the family cat or is their prey drive too strong? Do rottweilers receive training pretty well or are they stubborn or slow to learn?
@ddorkk4777
@ddorkk4777 5 ай бұрын
@@cacatr4495i don't have personal experience with corsos only with rotties but my rottweiler is very chill dog because he is socialized really well. From my research about corsos they are extremely protective and territorial (most people don't need a dog so protective). If you want to feel safe and protected at home but at the same time don't want to worry about your dog killing someone because of its overly protective nature, go with rottie. If you have some experience with dogs and you visit a professional dog trainer you should be able to handle it. But they can be very stubborn so if you have no experience with dogs look after something else.
@ProceedMortal
@ProceedMortal 4 ай бұрын
@@cacatr4495speaking from experience, I trained both my dogs to mind off leash, one of which is a Siberian husky, the other a Rottweiler, Rotts can very readily be trained to be off leash no issue as long as their boundaries are defined. I wouldn’t trust mine unsupervised though. She likes to chase blowing leaves and if you turn around too long she’ll be 5 yards down introducing herself to the neighbors.

I think my next dog should be a mix of these two. Just had a Cane Corso. Very tough dog. Had to put him to sleep at the age of 15 months, because of severe health issues :( Unfortunately not very uncommon with the race (many bad breeders). Even with his health issues(and pretty sure a bit of pains related) Tough as f*ck. Still strong and agile. Never a sound of weakness from him. But had other ways of showing it, now I think of it. Both amazing breeds. And THAT is why I want a crossbreed. My dog before the Corso, was a female Rottweiler/Bullmastiff mix. She got only the best of the breeds. Healthy, loyal, beautiful and very powerful. Trust me, in physical strenght, toughness and agility, my "Mastweiler" could give a Cane Corso a run for its money. She had a massive build, and could run and jump (and pull) beyond believe. But mentally, she was way different than those typical traits of her parents. Not typical property protective, though not affraid of anything, (just too trustfull I guess) I estimate anyone could give her a treat, and enter. But no one ever tried. She appeared is she was - Powerful! Amazing dog. Best temper. She aged 12+ years. The last time I had her see a wet before putting her to sleep at 12, was at 3 years of age (at not because of health problem) :)

I agree, I've also had my best luck with mixed. I wish my AB was still breed-able, I'd like to see what kind of pup she'd throw with my Rottie (she got sick, female problems, and I had to get her "fixed") . My younger son had a Dan-eff, a cross between a great dane and a mastiff, he was brindle and he weighed over 200 pounds at 11 months! He seemed like he was going to work out really nice, but unfortunately, he had a Brain Anuerism and died.

I've grown up with Rottweilers currently I have too males and I pain to have a Corso as my next dog Everything you said about Corsos being baby's with family is true with the Rottweilers One interesting thing I've seen with my Rottweilers is when people come near the house they want to murder them if I give the smallest hint someone is making me uncomfortable my Rottweilers are ready to murder them But if we are away from the house aslong as I'm cool they are cool they still don't really care about strangers even when I accept someone on my house they both tend to just stay in between us just incase As far as there focus goes they can lose focus but still you can pretty quick get them to focus back on you so I wouldn't say it's a big deal I think it's more them being goofy dogs mixed with high protective interests I'd still say they are pretty smart there not on the level as a gsd but they are still smarter then average dogs in my opinion and probably some of the funniest dogs to live with They are awesome dogs I wouldn't recommend a Rottweiler as a first time dog One of my current dogs is form someone trying to take him in and had no clue what they where doing and I'm his 4th home and he was only 2 years old You need to earn there respect they aren't the dogs who just accept you instantly as the boss That's just my take as someone who grew up with Rottweilers and German shepherds my whole life but if anyone wants to ask me about Rottweilers feel free happy to help I'm not a expert but I know more then the average person

Did you end up getting a cane? As someone who as owned both, the cane disappoint me and the rotties never did. I don't want a dog thats afraid of thunder or something falling on the ground or fireworks. I need a dog that hears that and is ready to confront it. I would pick a rottie over a cane corso any day and will likely never get another cane. They lack the strong nerves I desire in a dog.

The Rottweiler was used to reinvent or reintroduce the modern day Corso , the Rottweiler itself was reintroduced in the last century , the current Neapolitan mastiff is a reintroduction and it was used to help recreate the corso , and so many unethical American breeders are just throwing in any breed they like to get bigger and better looking dogs , if you're looking to get a corso be patient and research the breeders and the exact standard for the dog . educate yourself about the breed, my friends are paying thousands of dollars for health care like surgery on the hips , the dog reached 200 pounds at one year old . everyone who owns a corso is suddenly an expert . I've been wanting to get one for a long time , but I couldn't find a good breeder in twenty years . get yourself a good old American bulldog instead , they're healthy and mentally stable
