It’s not his voice that makes people, including me, like Winnerbäck. It’s the lyrics and the feelings his songs induce. But I also think that the imperfections of his voice are beautiful in a way. His voice doesn’t need to be perfect because the rest is so good.

He’s one of my favourite artist and this is probably my favourite song. I get chills and tears in my eyes every time I hear it. It’s very special for me. And for me, his voice is one of the things that makes him special. And of course his wonderful lyrics.

Ja, gör "Det gör ont" också! Lena Philipsson vann överlägset Melodifestivalen på sitt fjärde försök och blev 5:a i Eurovision Song Contest (om jag inte minns fel), med den engelska versionen "It Hurts". Den ursprungliga svenska versionen var som sagt en jättehit 2004.

Winnerbäck is the type of artist who's really a writer more than a musical artist, because at the heart of everything he does is the text. I'm not sure it qualifies as a classic but my favorite example of this is his song "Du gamla fria nord" which has just beautiful, albeit very dark, lyrics. His voice isn't as monotone in that song either, it's got a lot more range of emotion (especially anger).

As many people have written already. It is not his voice that makes him so popular as an artist (even though I think he is a better singer nowdays). For me music is firstly about feeling something. And a voice that is just pretty and does not make me feel anything is extremely boring. In US it is important to be able to sing the high notes and so on, but I think it is different in Sweden. And secondly, music for me is about telling stories. Lars makes great lyrics that tells different interesting stories that describes things as it really is. Lars sings about peoples feelings, thoughts and experiences just the way it is. And also as you said, the songs has got nice vibes. I feel that I always want more. I would like to be on a Lars Winnerbäck concert for several days and just feel the harmony in my body.

Two classics, inspired by today’s concert in Skansen: Staffan Hellstrand’s ”Lilla fågel blå”, and Lisa Nilsson’s ”Himlen runt hörnet”. Two really great songs. They’re probably already on your list. A definite new classic is Laleh with ”Goliat” (Kids even sing this at ”skolvslutningen” in church). Two other artists that had big hits, but that are not so active today are Dan Hylander with ”Svart kaffe”, and Anne-Lie Rydé with the ballad ”Segla på ett moln”. I would also reccommend listening to the late Olle Ljungström and his heartbreaking ”Kaffe och en cigarett” (Miss Li made a fantastic cover of this for ”Så mycket bättre”)

No fan of Winnerbäck myself but watching your reaction videos is always great entertainment. So glad I found this channel and thankyou so much for doing this! I can't help but watching some of them over and over again... 😆 If you want to do a true early 80s classic, try "Två av oss" by the group X-models from 1981. Great song! Thanks again!

Elegi is originally a Greek word (Elegeia) describing a mournful poem or song. In Swedish both "Elegi" and "Eleshi" are acceptable pronunciations. Bonus fact: New Order made an instrumental track called Elegia in 1985. It's gorgeous, especially the 17 minutes version.

I have come to realize that even the Swedish upbeat songs are melancholic to some extent. To get a non-melancholic song you would probably have to defer to Samir & Viktor’s ”Bada nakna (på Sergels torg)” an earbug from 2016, loved by all ages (below 14). Please give more suggestions that are not dansband. Maybe Gyllene Tider?

He has the coziest voice ever. But as others have pointed out, it is the lyrics that are fantastic, they are like poetry, give me goosebumps, is there any Swedish artist who can make me cry, it is Winebäck. There is no one who can make you think like that about lost love.

It feels like you look a bit too much on the surface when listening to our swedish classics. A good voice and a good production is not what makes everyone sing the song when sitting drunk around a campfire late at night. You have to look more to the song itself, and especially the lyrics. I understand though that the lyric bit can be a bit difficult for one that are not 100% familiar with the language. It could often be confusing for us natives as well, but we can still feel the beauty in some lyrics, even though we might not understand it completely. :) Don't think No doubt, think Bob Dylan. :)

Both Winnerbäck and Kjell Höglund, and probably some more you have reacted to comes from the same vein as Dylan, where the focus is on the lyrics and not the music. And then of course we have some where they manage to combine it, like Kent for example.

@@JonathanRollinssthlm305 Both Dylan and Springsteen had enormous influence on Swedish rock music in the 60-70. That’s why so much sounds similar. It’s a singer-songwriter tradition as well, with focus on lyrics and melodies. Most often guitar based.

My favourites from the 80'es (apart from Eldkvarn, Wilmer X and Kai Martin and the Sticks) is Anders F. Rönnblom, "God Jul, God Jul" and "Europa brinner" f. ex. Or why not, the smooth guy John Holm, "Den öde stranden" 1972, but you may not approve of his voice :)

Have you done any reactions to Eurodance/eurodisco songs? It was very big here during the 90s. I haven't seen any at least. Some suggestions from that era. Rednex - Cotton Eye Joe Ace of Base - The Sign or perhaps their "All that she wants". E-type - Set the world of fire or "This is the way" Army of Lovers - Crucified or their "Obsession" Robyn - Do you really want me. Look, those people who say "elegi" with a hard /g/, like in English "get", have never _ever_ heard the word before and have no idea what it even means. Honestly, they could at least listen to the song and thus hear Lars Winnerbäck himself use the (back) sje sound and model" their own pronunciation after that. Actually, saying "elegi" with a hard /g/ in Swedish is just as wrong as doing it in English for "elegy", where it has a /d͡ʒ/ as in "Roger". So, if your accent uses only the back sje sound or both back and front ones, go with the back one for this word. This goes for most of Sweden, including the standard accent. If you're from most of Värmland, way up north, or Finland, and thus only have the front sje sound, use that one. The back sje sound is the one that is said in the same place as the /k/ in "kan", just with some friction added. The front sje sound is pretty much the sh in English shoe".

I'm with you that the voice isn't great so have never really been a fan of him. Sure the song itself is kinda nice with the guitar and melody, but if i feel that i only really perk up and enjoy the song when the singer isn't singing, that's usually a not a good thing in my book.
