Hi Jonathan! Probably someone has already mentioned it but Jakob Hellman - Vara Vänner is another brilliant 80's classic. Or maybe even better tune Hon Har Ett Sätt from same album. That album is still mentioned as the best pop albums ever released here in Sweden.

It’s a classic. Hits a chord in my Swedish heart. The lyrics are so beautiful and sad. And the raspy voice suits the lyrics.

Good choice man! (However this is not an original album version which has much more immaculate arrangement) Love this tune. It was written by guys from Secret Service - and this is another suggestion of Swedish classic artists for you.

I agree. The original studio version is something else. Definitely worth checking out. Thanks for the enthusiastic and positive reaction! I appreciate how you read up on each artist and bring some background info on them before each reaction. I recommend Lena Ph’s song ’Kärleken är evig’ from 1986’s Eurovision Song Contest :)

Ola Håkansson was a member of the swedish band "Secret service" Great popgroup. They sang on english, but i personally think they whete great. "A flash in the night" is classic

As member of EBU (European Broadcasting Union - one of their best known collaboration is the yearly competition Eurovision) SVT owns Melodifestivalen. Hence, they can decide on what artists they want in their shows. It's an expensive production and it has to pay off. Nothing strange about that. Trust me, it would be the same on any American channel.

Oh! You really need to react to "Picadilly Circus" with Pernilla Wahlgren (yes, the same Pernilla as from the tv-show Wahlgrens Värld). Typical 80´s song and fashion in that one! Another nice song is "God Morgon" - Sweet´n Chips. It´s a good way to start a day. :-)

The thing is that this song was for "Eurovision Grand Prix", and there are some rules. I don't know about how this song came to be specifically, but one thing that OFTEN happen is that someone just gets SOMEONE who is good at singing (somteimes a famous name), and send in the song for the first evaluation (which is done before the televised Swedish contest)... and one of the rules (which I SUSPECT is the one at play here).. is that you are NOT allowed to alter things about the song, but as it was presented is how you are supposed to go on to the contest. So, IF the person first wrote the song.. Didn't have access to Lili&Sussi, and instead recorded it with Lena Ph, then they would be denied changing singers.. (That rule is to prevent amateurs to get a famous and professional musician to record the the song, but they always intended to play the song themselves, so suddenly are some amateurs whom the jury didn't know the skilset of on national TV)..

I think this was the live performance from Melodifestivalen. The studio version sounds way more like typical 80's disco pop. Hammering machine drums and stuff. Typically for the times, an ultra cheesy "dansband" song won Melodifestivalen in 1987. You can check out "Fyra Bugg och en Coca Cola" with Lotta Engberg and have a good laugh and cringe moment.

This have to be a modern rerecording by her. It is the same song but the timing and also the mix(volume mix) is a bit of from the original old recording. For me the older one evoke stronger feelings for me. Still good though :) Sorry for being a nerd :P

In fact SVT have a total exclusivity to manage the artist for a song taken further in to the yearly, swe melody competition. The writer can "wish" an artist. thats all. I think it are a bit different if you write the song for you self.
