Ah, so happy you got to this. Monica's jazz-velvety sound and her understanding to lyrics is pure joy. The Swedish lyrics to this song really describes the romantic, Swedish summer night.. You walk around all night with your loved one, small talking, steals a kiss or two and sits down to meet the morning sun.
@EnergyCuddles3 жыл бұрын
The way the lyrics describe the bright Scandinavian mid-summer nights ... pure joy, and I'm overcome by a dreamy nostalgia as my mind wanders away from this winter gloom, to the brighter days to come. One of my favourite songs. ♥ I sat here listening with you, smiling from ear to ear just like you did. Monica Zetterlund is a national treasure. :)

@@JonathanRollinssthlm305 from wikipedia "She worked with some of the greatest international jazz names including Louis Armstrong, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Steve Kuhn and Quincy Jones, and in the Scandinavian jazz world with people like Georg Riedel, Egil Johansen, Arne Domnérus, Svend Asmussen and Jan Johansson.[1" She was recognized worldwide. I'd love for you to hear "Håll musiken igång" with her together with Povel Ramel, likely the best rhyming worsmoth we ever had. It's insanely well done lyrics, and a theatrical act in song form.

The Swedish comedian Tage Danielsson described her as "ett lingonris i ett cocktailglas" (she was from a very small town in Värmland. She also dated Marlon Brando for a few days! One of his first comments to her was "May I call you Sven?", so she went by the name of Sven for a weekend. And the bass player here was George Riedel, who among other things has written a lot of Swedish children's song, like all the songs for Emil i Lönneberga and Alfons Åberg.

This is a true Swedish classic. It is not only about Stockholm, but also about the long summer nights. Every Swede knows about those (but they might not miss it until they live abroad). First, great work with the Swedish! You´re doing well, man! Second, I guess you get a lot of recommendations of Swedish classic songs. I have not watched many of your videos, so I am not sure of what you have already covered - but, from the same era as this is Jan Johanssons version of "Visa från Utanmyra". It is said to be The Song that captures the Swedish Soul at its utmost. It is a sad song, but I would really call it truly Swedish. Play it for (older) Swedish folks in exile, and you might see them cry. No lyrics, only a melody.

This is the first time I agree that the song IS a "classic".. I have a difficult time thinking of songs that were created during my lifetime (and also a lot of them kind of disappeared because they didn't survive the test of time.. Is the phrase "Diminishing return" valid for music too? Zetterlund is primarily a Jazz singer.. And secondarily an actress.. and I also find it a bit odd if you never heard "Walkin' my baby back home".

It's customary to see to it that your date gets home safely, either by walking with her or getting her a taxi or something. This is more true than ever right now with sexual assaults on the rise. Has nothing to do with sexism.

When are you going to listen to something else than Svensktoppen? We have hundreds of singers, artists, producers and composers that are world famous and often on US Billboard 100s, why aren't you listening to them? Or historical swedish artists or composers, why aren't you listening to them?
