Quick tip for threading sheet metal: Instead if drilling a hole, try punching a hole. The resulting burr holds more turns of the thread and therefor grabs the scew way better. When working with aluminium or mild steel sheets you can omit threading alltogether since your screws are hard enough to thread them (you didn't hear that from me!)

This reminds me of building my new gaming PC (with a recycled video card since you can't buy them). I wanted 2 radiators but the top radiator mount hole was like 2mm to small. So I had to dremel it out. Then the water pump needed a place to mount so I drilled holes into the hard drive/PSU cage. I had never done anything like this before. And yes I made sure to file it down with the dremel. It turned out nicely. You can't even tell I cut the radiator mount to make the hole bigger (it is covered after all). And the screw holes for the water pump were almost perfect. The 4th hole moved on me just a tad so I had to move the hole down a bit making it bigger, but it's covered by the pump so you can't see it. It's wonderful!!!! My Ryzen 5900x runs at 60 degrees C under load! That's really cool for a modern CPU. And it idles at only a few degrees above room temperature. I'll add a video card to the loop eventually, but I didn't see a point in doing it with a 7 year old video card for now.

Use your electric drill on low gear to use the thread bit or tap drill to make threads. As the metal is in this case very thin, just work it through the metal, not the whole bit and switch the electric drills turning to backwards to get the tap out. Very easy and quick.
@JanBeta3 жыл бұрын
Ah, didn't think of that. Good idea!
@adrianohaha76593 жыл бұрын
Just a tip. For that thickness of aluminium sheet, don't drill the holes, rather use something sharp to punch them (like a steel nail), while placing a nut (m5 or m6) under the location of the hole (to allow the metal to stretch on the other side). This way, you can create a small funnel-shaped feature which provides more "length" for the threads. Cheers 🙂

If the Pi Zero struggles slightly with this kind of use so that you need to overclock it, wouldn't it be better to use something like a full fat Pi 4B which is more powerful anyway? With an accelerator board as well, especially something like a 50mhz 68040, that A2000 would become a real beast of an Amiga. This project makes me wonder if you can use a Pi as a CPU upgrade for an Amiga. I think I heard of a newer model graphics card for big box Amigas that could plug into Pi boards for use as an accelerator but they seemed very expensive when I looked at them.

However, I had a silver adapter which goes from the DB25 video port on the back to the monitor's 15-pin VGA-style cable. I can't find that adapter now. The A4000 doesn't seem to have the same video port I had in my old A2000 which had a genlock. Is there an easy way to connect it via HDMI/DVI and bypass the CRT monitor? The Amiga powers up and the hard disk crunches like normal so I suspect it's in fully working condition.

can be used on A4000D?
@JanBeta12 күн бұрын
No, it doesn't work with the AGA chipset (A1200/A4000/CD32), unfortunately.

@JanBeta with the specific AGA modes, it is obvious that it does not work but when it works in OCS and ECS, has anyone tried? looking at the diagram I saw that it uses exactly the same signals as the A2320 card which however also works on the 4000 while ignoring the extra color bits.

That's really cool! I'm considering getting the A600 version of this for my Amiga! Oh FYI, "+ve" is meant to be "positive" (as opposed to "-ve"/negative) - not trying to be a dick, just not sure if you were aware :)

I just got an adapter for the A600 in from its creators, too. Video coming up soon. :) I think the +ve issue is more of a translation thing, I am aware it means "positive" but in German you would most likely say "plus". Thanks for pointing that out though! :)

Have a nice day Mr Beta! "CF Karte mit WINUAE formatiren, OS 3.1 installieren und auf eine REALE AMIGA nutzen"... Das wäre mal eine Tutorial von Dir Wert, oder? LG

I did a video exactly like that a while back for my Amiga 1200. ;)

You need a Dremel, just like 8-Bit Guy :D

I‘m not going down that route... ;) (that said, I actually own a Proxxon rotary tool but I found it easier to use the drill and files for this)
