"Fire Power" - that's one serious blast from the past. I remember one of the kids we were playing this with, back in the (very) late 80ies, destroying the jostick in a fit of rage because his tank got stuck. Good times!

I used to play the game a lot back when I was younger on my dads A500. Getting stuck on the edge of walls and structures was super annoying. I always thought maybe that was the purpose of the helicopters since if you got stuck they would eventually show up and kill you but sometimes I would get stuck and still be outside of their pattern so I would just be screwed. plowing into a landmine right outside your home base was also super annoying. Had hours and hours of fun with the game though.

The ISA card slots aren't connected to the "Amiga". It's an entirely separate bus. They're designed for use with a bridge-board which links the two (hence why you have the two inline with the Zorro II slots) and allows you to run the Amiga as "PC" as well as an Amiga. You can then use the ISA cards with the "PC" (maybe the Amiga too, I'm unsure there).

The Kroger ads were probably designed to work with some kind of specialized video output/genlock card, like a Video Toaster, which has since been removed from the machine.

There was something called the ATeo-bus. A bridge card allowing specially prepared ISA cards to work in the Amiga. But as far as I know, there was only a modified Tseng ET4000 card and a multi-io card made for it.

I think the floppy switcher you have was designed for the Amiga 500 and to be used with DF1 which on the Amiga 500 is of course an external drive. You can do the same with the 2000 as it has the external drive port. You just need to ensure that a jumper inside the case is set to disable a second internal drive. I can't be certain but it could be J301 or J300. Your drive switcher plugs into the external drive port and then it should work as for the a500 with the Gotek which can then be switched to be the boot drive or can be changed back to boot from DF0 On the amiga all the drives use 0 as the first drive. DF0, DF1, DF2, DH0, DH1, DH2 and so on. The ads were almost certainly being run by a software program such as Amiga Vision or Scala or any one of a number of other programs that had this functionality. Probably as one of the other comments mentioned through a genlock or video toaster but I would be inclined to think a genlock. You should be able to find out what it is as if it kicks off each time you boot from the hard drive then it is almost certainly included in the startup sequence. You may need to google some info on amiga dos commands and startup-sequence. Once you find it you can just comment the line out in the startup-sequence and your amiga will boot as normal to the Workbench. All the best.

Regarding your floppy problem: With Kickstart 3.0 and later you simply can press both mouse keys simultaneously while switching the computer on and you get a little option screen where you can tell the computer to boot from DF1 instead and so on. In my setup, I have the drive emulator installed in an old external floppy case. It looks way more elegant and works just fine. You would have to cut out a hole for your display though (mine has none)...
@AncientElectronics
@AncientElectronics Жыл бұрын
I tried this and it works, sort of. my external drive gets detected as DF2. If I use this menu and select it as the boot drive it will boot up to the external floppy emulator but apparently it doesn't save this setting so every time I want to change games and power cycle I need to do this process over. Its not the best solution but its something.

I found one of these a few months ago with no accessories, im going to get a keyboard and mouse adapter, and a gotec floppy emulator. Any other thoughts on what i should add to it? It will post and i get the kickstart screen, but i dont have any disks lol or a proper monitor
@AncientElectronics
@AncientElectronics 4 жыл бұрын
a kickstart switcher is always a fairly cheap and easy upgrade so you can switch between the older and more compatible with games kickstart and a newer one that allows newer OSes and drives. I think they make some pretty cheap ZORRO hard drive controller cards for the Amiga these days.I use a SCSI controller myself with a SCSI2SD device and an SD card as my hard drive. not many Amiga games install to the hard drive though unless you use WHDload.

No matter what I tried there was no way to get df2 to be seen by the Amiga as df0. The floppy boot switches just disable df0 forcing the Amiga to switch to df2 but the games still aren’t happy with that. Had to end up putting the gotek inside as df0. Plus a lot of games just seem to not be compatible with the A2000.
@AncientElectronics
@AncientElectronics 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why games would be incompatible. the A2000 is basically an A500 in a bigger case with expansion slots. It uses the same CPU and I believe in most cases the same graphics chipset (I think some revisions use ECS). I've never encountered a game that would run on my A500 but not A2000 but I haven't played every Amiga game. Can you let us know what games wouldn't run for you? I plan to do a follow-up to this video eventually with a few upgrades. I acquired two different selectors and one is the newest switchless floppy drive selector so we will see if I have better luck with those. I don't think can bring myself to install a Gottek in this case....it's just looks so ugly and out of place in my opinion.
@sideburn
@sideburn 2 жыл бұрын
** BTW the boot selectors DO WORK... as they intend.. by disabling DF0... forcing the amiga to find DF2 and boot from here.. But this is pretty much pointless since you can just hold the mouse buttons down and select DF2 yourself to boot from. Unfortunately I figured all this out after completely installing and drilling a hole in one of my expansion slot cover plates and installing the switch only to ultimately remove them. As far as the gotek being ugly, well, mine is the one with the OLED display and I made a 3d printed Bezel to fill in the floppy bay gap thats the same color so it all blends well and at least looks like its "supposed" to be there. But yeah I am a big fan of all original stock and hide any modern emulators behind the scenes... oh we'll...

@AncientElectronics
@AncientElectronics 3 жыл бұрын
I do plan to but I have no idea when. I plan for it to be about any planned upgrades I want to do such as replace the HDD with an SSD. add a CD-ROM drive, get that floppy selector switch working so I can set that external drive as DF0 or DF1, and hopefully add an accelerator. I'd like to add a more old-school accelerator with a switch so I can toggle between the original CPU and a faster one. seems like all the accelerators they put out now just completely replace the original CPU.
