Wow and i thought James Pond 2 was colour overloaded :) ! All that crazy stuff, the colours, the level selection trough doors and the wings to fly remind me of James Pond 2.

I think they went overboard with the colours, they clash too much. Which is a shame, because the sound effects and animation are very good, they just needed to tone down the colour a bit. I never played it before and watching now I realise they are the same company that did Oscar, another overly colourful game (I can tell because a few of the sound effects, like the "Boing" are clearly the same in both titles). This looks like the gameplay was a bit more fun than Oscar though.

I had a demo of this game on MS-DOS from a CD called _"Classic Collection Adventure/Fantasy"_. Its main feature was four pretty good games, but it had like a hundred shareware demos and autoplay demos, too, and this was one of them. Good times...

Major problem with this. It's a platform game with no music during most of the levels. Surely that's a bad idea.

Amiga cd32 version has a good music in gameplay

I was specifically searching for gameplay of this game to hear the soundtrack of my childhood... The version I remember had the most sugar rushy soundtrack ever :p

It was not a voluntary decision by Flair Software. Flair Software was known for working with lots of colors and graphics. That came at a price on the Amiga 500. Elvira, the arcade game, for example, had the same problem. It had very good graphics for the time, but the Amiga did not allow music and sound effects to be played at the same time. At least with Elvira you could choose whether you wanted to hear just music or just sound effects. Unfortunately, this option was not available with Trolls. But both would not have been possible due to the Amiga's limited memory. If Flair Software had allowed music and sound effects, it would have slowly become unplayable. For the Amiga 1200 version, Flair Software didn't even bother to play both at the same time, although it would certainly have been possible, and it wasn't until the CD 32 that both were possible: Music and Sound effects.

This game was one of the staples of my childhood when I would play on the Amiga A1200, but I found the mid levels to be quite frustrating but once I got used to it like using the yo-yo on the blocks to get higher, I managed to get to the end. Though I never understood why you got "BONUS" and "BOGUS" instead of bonus rounds being one thing.

I remember, that when I used the yoyo off screen while jumping, the game always crashed on me, and I had to start over. 🤣

What is the difference between Oscar and this game then? My brother had this for the Amiga 500.

I played it a lot as a kid, I loved it! I recently learned about Oscar, it seems a re-packaging to sell the game twice, troll themed maps looked visually nicer than oscar maps...or maybe I am biased since I grew up with trolls

I also have this game as a child, but I like it back then. I must have more patience and less experience with platform games. I suggest You to avoid AGA floppy version and jump straight to cd32 version. This one got better background pictures and there is music in stages, also You can do save states (I finish it year ago so I have no problems with winuae) :)

+GzegzolkaDA Thanks! I thought the CD32 version was the same as the AGA floppy version but with CD music. I know savestates now works well in latest WinUAE. And I really want to do the CD32 version. But there is a problem when recording CD32 games and using savestates. The audio does not start in the right place when you load your savestate. The only way i know is to record the game without CD tracks and add them manually afterwards in music editing program. This is very time assuming because the game has so many levels. There is a longplay of the CD32 version of Oscar on KZbin. Recorded by another guy. I wonder how he recorded that.

Now do the AGA version. "One annoying thing. I got to play that bonus level so many times. Which is very lame and boring. When I do the AGA version then i will don't pick these bonus letters up :)" You should do at least one, so we see the differences, in case the are some.

Why do so many Amiga platformers look like drugged up fever dreams? And what's with all the annoying collecting? I never thought it was the slightest bit entertaining in a platform game.
