On "Shadow of The Beast", you actually go LEFT at the beginning, and into the tree which takes you to an underground world, that's where the game really starts. You don't go to the right before later in the game. Great stream

Best version of Shadow of the Beast is the third one. The only Amiga exclusive. The first is a tech demo and the second is way too difficult (even if it has probably one of the best musics ever made on the Amiga IMHO)

@@Awprod2000 Beast 3 combine the beautiful realization of Beast 1 with multi layered parallaxes with the darker atmosphere and the puzzles of Beast 2, but in that case, puzzle are actually logicals and well thought. Beast 2 is impossible to finish without cheats or walkthrough. Just an example you have to ask a random man by typing precisely "traps" on the kb to have an information that will be useful much later in the game. You can't guess do that without knowing it before and there is absolutely no clues in the game for guessing it. And there is several examples of this broken gameplay making the game probably one of the most difficult ever made IMO.

I couldn't believe how bad the Pacman game was, so I looked it up. The ROM you have is an unofficial version made by a fan called "Pacman 87". It looks like there's another version for Amiga that's much closer to the arcade, in case you're ever interested in checking it out. Keep up the fun streams.

I got gran turismo for wife's ps 4 a few years ago (i stopped with consoles with ps2) so after the 5 mins just getting to the game I got to download for like 2 hours just to play it. By the time i got to play i was so tired i was falling asleep at the wheel lol would wake up riding the wall. Well after that wonderful experience i haven't touched a console after ps2 era and wont . Amiga and Atari ST were every kid’s dream back then. Many games were almost like playing the arcade versions. But for most of the kids it didn’t mattered how big you dreamed, you would just get an Amstrad CPC, Spectrum ZX or an MSX…or if you were really unlucky a Commodore 64.

@@jsunn315 Good for you. I would only choose MSX over Amiga because the nostalgia factor. MSX brings a lot of memories but back then (at least in Europe) the Amiga and the ST were the ones you wanted and the C64 the one to avoid.

nai 33: - Most Amiga games were NTSC compatible, so on an American machine they are full screen, but play slightly too fast. May PAL games use this area for their UI to make the game run smoother. I know it is lazy, but that's what happened.

truly underrated system a lot of subpar titles to dig through to get to the gems would definitely recommend giving these a chance. ruff n tumble, lion heart, the plague, brian the lion, super frog, bad company, globdule, indigo, super stardust, marvins marvelous adventure, fire and ice, wiz n liz, wolfchild, stormlord, arabian nights, battle squadron, snow bros 1 and 2, rodland, tumblepop, second samurai, tearaway thomas, magic pockets hope to see a stream where you give at least a few of these a shot.

Wow, good to see Mike finally play some Amiga BUT this system is kind of like C64 experience, even with the mini version. Sometimes you need different settings for mouse/joystick ports to skip through intros or be able to do anything, choose a 1 player or 2 player game, need an actual usb keyboard etc. What's more, many games need some tinkering with the game speed (editing setting files on a PC) because, as in the case of Ninja Turtles, the game's speed will make it barely playable or unplayable. As a European, I can definitely recommend some great Amiga titles: Navy Seals, Baby Jo Going Home, Parasol Stars (which is a sequel to Ranbow Islands / Bubble Bobble), Prehistorik, Frankenstein. Mortal Kombat on Amiga was terrific :) BTW, finding all sorts of bizarre games is a part of Amiga experience :D

Did you have 50hz selected in the settings? Some of those games were playing way to fast. Most Amiga games were optimised for the PAL standard.

The amiga has to have the biggest quality gap in it's library of any machine. Some absolute classics and also the most unplayable, shameful titles ever. If they'd managed to copy protect their releases and had tighter quality control, they'd probably still be releasing hardware today.

I had fun with your video for hours, you are a natural comedian:) The answer to why some games are so bad and some really good, is because there was no quality control like consoles has and anyone could make games. There are over 5000 games on the Amiga and only about 1/5 are good. The important thing is that the Amiga doesn't have good ports, but it excels in exclusive titles. I really liked the Amiga stream since my brother had an Amiga so that was our main gaming system in high school. I can see it was hard not knowing the good titles to play, but you found a few of them anyway. I agree that Apidya is good, some other good shooters to play: Project X, Battle Squadron, Hybris (has some cool features, give it another try: you can morph the ship and it looks different with each upgrade and shoot different pattern), Menace. Some people also like X-out and Z-out, and there's Xenon 2, which you just gotta see, but it's way hard to play. Alien breed is a nice top-down shooter, and you can buy weapons and upgrades at the terminals. Amiga is a computer, so there was lots of nice strategy games, but that's not something you want to play on stream. Magic Pockets is a fun platform game. If you want to test yourself against a super hard game, there's The Killing Gameshow. That game is ultra hard but at least the music is amazing. If you want to play more Amiga games, I think people will find it interesting, but not so much the bad ports of games on other consoles. Some games started on the Amiga like Killing Gameshow and are only really fun on Amiga. PS: if you wanna know why Final Fight was so messed up, it was programmed in 3 days by one guy: there's an easter egg in the intro where the programmer rants about that.

i dont think i ever played amiga, or even seen most of these games. there was no such thing as an amiga where i lived. it was all about nintendo and sega. or atari/coleco for some. i remember a friend whose dad's had a commodore. what a weird machine. You kind of needed a nerdy dad to get one. i say this in a good way :-) i wish i had a nerdy dad.

As a European, I've been waiting this for a long time. Feel the pain. The Amiga 600 was what I grew up with, we never owned any consoles in my family. Honestly, there are some really good games, but they're mostly point-n-clicks, strategy, simulation, stuff like that. Not a great system for platformers and the like.

The reason that there was such a difference in graphics in some of these games is because there were several generations of Amiga hardware from the mid 80s to 90s. The newer generation systems could be earlier generations but graphics from 1985 can't compare to 1992 graphics.

Amiga > PS5 Might as well just start an Amiga A - Z series and get it over with. ; ) Granted "Satan" isn't a great game, but picking the Wizard character starts a completely different and better game than the Warrior. Some of my favorite Amiga games with too much text for Mike/streaming are Space Rogue, Pirates!, Paradroid, and Hillsfar. Dynasty Wars is an interesting take on a beat 'em up. Mike may want to take a look at Cloud Kingdoms.

Great stream, Mike! Kinda makes me want to get one of these, it looks so much less painful than emulating Amiga games on my pi. I assume the art screens going by too fast was due to it skipping some of the loading process. Normally you'd get plenty of time to look at them while the game loaded. That Duck Tales game was kinda interesting despite the nasty gameplay lol... looks like a lot of variety at least. I never even knew that existed and I played Amiga since the 80's before NES😆 There are also Shadow Of The Beast 2 and 3 which are way cooler than the first game. Lionheart is another great platformer. My favorite genre are shmups and Amiga has several nice ones. @Mike something is wrong with the roms or the emulator you're using. A lot of these games are glitchy and buggy and they don't work as they were supposed to. I've watched some speedruns from games you're playing and they looked normal and proper in other peoples streams.

As far as I know, it was super hard to do 2 sound channels at the same time on Amiga. Some sound guys just gave up at some point and did only music or only sound effects.

it has 4 hw channels, 2 of them hard paned to the right the other two to the left. to have to choose between music and sfx usually means incompetence and/or laziness of the makers of the game . in the early mid 90s, when i started my amigan carrier, most of the games had sfx and music at the same time (and what music usually) so it was kinda shock to me to find out that so many early games had either one or the other - and if they had music often it was very poor. this lead to the widespread preception and myth that the "amiga cant handle both music and sfx at the same time" or like your "hard to do two channels" (what does that means anyway?:)

@@mikematei you just have to wander a little to a red flag (I'd Say maybe 2mn to get the first one). These are the Platform levels. The Map part have indeed little interest but you dont really stay that much on it. Be sure to put joypad in the game option. This game is really made to jump with a button, not the D pad.

Hi Mike. Dan from Lemon Amiga. Glad you found some good games there. The Amiga was a mixed bag, some great, some not so great. If you have a PAL Amiga mini then maybe Superfrog would be a platformer to play. Ruff and Tumble is also well done. Turrican 2 is fun, but with the Turrican games, they need a keyboard to activate some weapons. Hybris is fantastic, just remember to rotate the ship in a circle each time you get a power up, to maximise your attack, and gain the ability to shoot over walls. Battle Squadron is good but tough. It depends on how much you like hammering the button. Speris Legacy is a Zelda game, same with Darkmere. Robocod is a fun platformer. Had a lot of fun with Dogs of War, as long as you choose the Mini Gun. The Chaos Engine is a great overhead shooter. Snow Bros is a classic of course. Battle Toads and Turtles are both NTSC games. It's funny to see you on the Amiga, just as I complete Zelda: Return of the Hylian. I never played any Zelda games until I got into this channel and watched your swordless run.

I know I'm a year late to the party, but you should really try out "Moonstone - A Hard Days Knight". It's a great game for 1-4 players. Missing players will be replaced by AI and you can play it just fine by yourself. It's like a round-based action fantasy game, with a world map, towns, 'dungeons' etc. It is quite difficult and gory and well worth giving a fair shot. It also has a 'versus' type mode, where you can play against other players or practice the combat. It holds up well to this day. Literally the best Amiga game I ever played and I'm not talking from a perspective of nostalgia, I never played it "back then". A friend introduced me to it a few years ago. Truly a hidden gem.

I dunno if anyone remembers but the Beavers game Mike played is the same as on AVGN, I forget the episode but it had an opening cutscene of a rabbit kidnapping your family at gunpoint

The Amiga was very Eurocentric and experimental which makes it very unique in the timeline. It was great though, buying the magazines and loading up demo disks which were stuck to the front page in a plastic bag, you just never knew what you'd get. Then there were the mail order catalogue clubs and the big box games. Great memories but not so sure there's many must-re-visit classics on it... controls were notoriously poor (push up to jump, etc). Standouts I remember are the Simpsons, Speedball, Test Drive, Skidmarks, James Pond, and the "razzle dazzle" (wink wink) demos passed around on the low low!

@@mikematei Amiga version is really good, especially now that you can play it without disk swapping. You could also play it from HD back in these times but few people had an HD, in Europe at least. In the US that was différent. Almost every Amiga game that is US made is HD friendly because the Amiga wasn't a teen machine there but a tech nerd one (because of the Video Toaster).
