After high school in the computer lab, listening to mods. 30 years later, after work in the office, still listening to mods. Mods for life.

This is just fire. I remember playing with my DSS8+ making samples on my a500. Used to rip on Acid Pro and Soundforge and Propellerheads Rebirth in the late 90s. Really brings me back. Thanks so much for sharing

Does anyone know how was the filter sweep done at the beginning of the first track?
@AlexanderSKunz2 жыл бұрын
Sample offsets... I think that was with the 9xx effect in Protracker? (I'm Neurodancer)
@Mr_ToR2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderSKunz That beginning is bonkers. The great thing is that it works in two ways. it both fells like you're modulating the filter and also it feels like each note has an enveloped filter. Probably the original sample had a closing filter sweep so with reverse sample offsets it feels like you're opening the filter like a sweep but due to the original sample having a closing sweep, it feels like each note has a closing filter envelope. Really amazing. Do you remember from what did you sample the sound? I'm guessing from one of those a small fm synths of then times? The digital aliasing I assume is both from the down sampled playback of paula and together with the source fm synth? Really nice sounding. Digital at its best really.
@AlexanderSKunz Жыл бұрын
@@Mr_ToR thank you! :) I really don't remember the source; I sampled a lot of techno & trance back then so it might have been some solo section of a Roland TB-303 clone or something like that, in some track... :)

Do you prefer the 44.1k sound over the actual 28kHz sampling rate the Paula originally had? It sounds crispier for sure, but not as true to the original. Don't have a super strong opinion, just curious what you think.
@off1k9 жыл бұрын
dr nubstein The Winuae A1200 (or A500) audio filter is very close to original hardware, most tunes I've listened to on original hardware and then compared to my Winuae settings is very hard to tell the difference, if any at all, you might hear a specific sample or 2 with a slight difference but only through headphones. I have my A1200 and PC with Winuae hooked up to a mixer.When playing these mod tunes through a PC replayer like Modplug or something similar and with 44.1 freq then I do notice more of a difference, at least I think I do but that might have more to do with EQ settings, interpolation and audio resolution.Having said all that, I'm not sure what the difference with all these frequencies like 44.1 (even 28khz) and higher actually mean? What I'm saying is if the human ear can't hear higher than 20khz-22khz (as a child, it generally lowers as we get older) then what's the point of 44.1khz unless we're recording sound for cats and dogs and the like. It all sounds like marketing bullshit. Also if we look at hardware equalizers they generally don't go beyond 16khz-20khz. Sorry for the wall of text for a simple question but I don't think 44.1khz actually makes a difference, what I do think makes a difference is audio resolution (8bit vs 16bit) and low pass audio filters and of course what sound systems we're running them through. There's also a pretty big difference between an A500 and A1200 even though they have the same audio chip but the A1200 has had 2 or 3 filters removed/changed.
@off1k8 жыл бұрын
+Ricardo Funes Thanks for the info, I might connect my sampler to my Amiga 1200 and try recording stuff at 56khz one day and hear what difference there is but it will be 8bit only, I will replay them back through my PC and Amiga.
@argoGR8 жыл бұрын
its 41khr for both chanells, to be 20,5khz for each so it would much the human hearing. So @ 28khz its 14khz for each chanell. So it would be audible difference. Mp3128 for instance is going to allmost 15-16khz.
@d_vibe-swe8 жыл бұрын
The problem isn't the frequency when emulating the Amiga, if you go with 44khz there is enough. The problem is interpolation in the mixing. The thing is that the Amiga does not mix the channels with software at all; it plays all four channels independently from each other, resulting in that they play their own frequencies independently. Mixing it to two 44khz streams means that the mixing must be interpolated somehow.
@bluebull3998 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? I thought the Paula was a hardware mixer rather than 4 distinct DACS. I remember on the PC when MOD players first came out a lot of computers wern't fast enough to have interpolation so you had massive harmonic distortion. The guy who posted this video hasn't enabled interpolation that's why it sounds so bad.

20 years ago, I heard "Space Hurrier" in a tech demo, but can't remember. Someone can tell me the name of that demo?

Huh?
@szymonmatuszczak53215 жыл бұрын
@@setsers1 Yeah, it was such a thing. But they were two filters and only one could be disabled programatically, the second one needed to be bypassed by soldering (bypassing it was reasonable only when playing content with high sample rate). It didn't existed in A4000 and A1200, though.

does anybody testet 48 kHz with Surround and VDO (3x oversampling filtering) by MOD4WIN 2.40 ? earlier i tested : trough VDO 5x oversampling filter each sample convert to 24 bit and mix with 96 kHz sampling to 44.1 kHz 16 bit, results was awesome
