"Bryan Fuller describes Hannibal and Will’s relationship as being viable. If you imagine that Hannibal is the greatest chess player on earth, he can beat everyone hands down and with no effort whatsoever. Imagine if you’d spent 30 years being that person with the belief that you’ll always be alone, and simply amusing yourself by coming up with ever more intricate and out there ways to beat everyone at chess (murdering people and eating them.) Then all of sudden you meet someone who can play the game just as well as you can (season 1 Will); who might even beat you (season 2 Will) and who would give you a reason to give up the game to take on the rest of the world together (season 3 Will.) Hannibal never desires to kill Will (otherwise he’d be dead) because Will intrigues him so much and he doesn’t want to lose that. Will desires to kill Hannibal on a number of occasions, at the end of Season 1 in the Hobbs kitchen, in the middle of Season 2 when he sends Matt to kill Hannibal, in the middle of Season 3 when he attempts to stab Hannibal at the Uffizi. To put it simply, they get over this. They don’t exist in a permanent state of desiring to kill each other, it fluctuates, and really it’s not the most important thing about their relationship (unbelievably!) With regards to why people ship it, their relationship is powerful, interesting, unusual, intricate, well written and performed, the actors are attractive, complement each other and their conversation is natural to write. Also in the show, it is acknowledged that there is a love between them, and I believe as the show continues, it will become more overt. It’s not for everyone, in the same way that Hannibal isn’t for everyone for one reason or another. But Hannibal and Will quench the shaking ache of loneliness in each other, and that resonates with a lot of people. I hope I’ve managed to explain why they’re drawn to each other in the way that they are. You don’t have to ship it though! Enjoy the elements of the show you enjoy. At least they had the gut to show Alana and Margot on screen, they are two mostly functional sane women and that's why it goes well. But it comes to dysfunctional kings Hannibal and Will, a lovey dovey thing would be way harder to apply. I feel like Bryan Fuller is full of good intentions when it comes to representation and respects the audience, but it is known that mlm is quite harder to make happen on screen, and that a lot of Will and Hannibal dynamic is based on something that transcends the typical, *sane* idea of love. That's why it would seem weird for them to be in a typical relationship, even though they love each other in their own, sick terms.

Gwen Minor when u think about it, Alana and Margot getting together is almost as natural as the flow of rivers. Both were hurt and damaged in some way in relation to men - both lost their trust in men. Margot’s brother gave her ovaries and eggs to a female pig (not ignoring all the physical and emotional abuse he had been giving her all these years) and both the men who meant a lot to Dr. Bloom turned out to be very much different from how she knew them, or thought she did. That’s also why Margot gave herself to Will that one time, not just as a desperate attempt to bear someone else’s child/ running away from her brother, but also because they connected in more ways than one (both a patient of Hannibal). I love the writing in this show where relationships make sense and are not at all forced. We overlook a lot of shitty writing for hetero romance, only to realize how shit they are upon reexamination (fucking Notebook). And not just the writing: everything about this show is made with a sensibility that is incredibly hard to achieve, almost intimate. I cant even count the amount of subtle themes, imagery, metaphors, etc. that have elevated this piece of art to such heights. There’ probably only one other show that I love this much and that is “Mr. Robot”, also not for everyone, but by god is it top notch: cinematography, writing, music, characters (man, dont even get me started, all of its characters are beyond memorable, theyre like real people), and did i mention writing? It’s so good.

Spot on, Gemma! Never has a show made me think and re-evaluate my ideals like Hannibal. The usual 'psychopath with no capability to feel empathy' trope is just... no. We are shown that psychopaths while being completely fucked up, they're essentially still human. Easily one of my favourite TV shows of all time. And on Hannigram: This ship. Is very complicated and nuanced and just an entirely different level of fucked up it has become poetic. Like, it's tragic yet understandably so kind of poetic. I ship them because they're so fucked up, they're made for each other.

Hannibal became my favorite show way too quick. I watched idk how many times, and always liked it because of Dr. Lecter madness, curiosity and fascination for Will. Even when both guys question themselves if it wasn't love what they were feeling for each other, the love theme had never crossed my mind. I was so focused on the curiosity and awe Lecter had for Will from the start, that a love relationship seemed odd to me. I was wandering if part of Hannibal's feelings were in some way a desperate, hopeful wish to find someone who could not only understand, and accept him, but to actually feel what he felt; and what i found is this insane ocean of otp, gender, relation, sexual, love culture of watching Hannibal as a drama/love story. I was fascinated with the show, but never saw it as a love story. It seems to me much, very very much more than that. I mean, we could call it love, but i feel like 'love' only describes less than the half of its true nature. What i do love is your video, btw. It shed a whole new light for me to see the show once again. Thank you very much! :)

Yeah, I thought it was all about Will’s unique ability to not only know the real Hannibal, understand him, accept him, and maybe love him. Everyone yearns for that kind of connection deep down, right? Just Hannibal couldn’t get it from anyone else. I always saw Will as more of a beloved pet to Hannibal, as opposed to the pigs he considered most other humans to be. Poor Will, on the other hand, I just think he spent too much time in Hannibal’s head and sort of lost himself.

I just finished the show yesterday and i can't stop searching things about it. I guess I just can't get over that finale season. The show is so intense and bring us so many feelings that is hard to put this in words. I just love it! And I love your video because i needed to hear all those feelings from someone else. Hannigram show us a love that is not romantic, that fights to exist, that shows the best and the worst of each other. The show has an awesome photography, is full of philosofical discussions, has wonderful actors and i could spend hours just saying good things about it. But now the question that i make to myself is if is good to have another season or just finish it in the way it was made.

I'm a Fannibal from the get-go, and I just stumbled on this vid that introduced me to your fun channel (like Drunk History but for ships! I like it), and I couldn't agree more with everything you had to say! What you had to say about love=consumption in this show was so spot-on. Ever since Hannigram became canon their relationship has reminded me of a quote from my favorite C.S. Lewis book, Till We Have Faces, in which Psyche is going to be sacrificed to the god of the mountain. No one knows whether that means he's going to eat her or marry her, and one character says that, with gods, the loving and the devouring may be one and the same. I always think that's such a perfect description of Hannigram.

I love you for this. From the new set up (totally like a Doctor Who new series regeneration :') ) to lil Merlin. But seriously, Hannibal is the only show that I think should have been taken up right after it ended. Unlike shows like 13 reasons why that distorts and portrays a fucked up romanticism of suicide, Hannibal gives you a whole new way of thinking. Even though the show, in my opinion, is a classic love story it focuses on the people and their true selves​. It shows the struggles of so called 'normal' people trying to hold onto their sanity only to be 'consumed' by the 'devil' in the end. I wanna write more but I'd bore you :')

The fact that it has the power to do that using somewhat real techniques from actually phycology * *shivers* * Idk if I should be head over heels or grab my heels and run :') Correct me if I'm wrong but Fuller is one of the best writers as of late that has created an adaptation that actually works. Using modern issues, personal and political views and ripping everything apart with the brilliance of Harris, he marries the psychotic with the ordinary to evolve the story into its best potential. Perhaps perfect is reaching too far but where I stand, anything other doesn't compete. Where Sherlock falls short Hannibal wins Gold, silver and my heart. Ps. Thank you~ I'm just so happy another person has found this lil gemstone to share it's beautiful shades of gay

I actually read The Men Who Talked Between Words because you suggested it, and it was BRILLIANT!!!!! SO THANKS FOR THAT!!! I'd like to suggest that you review the Johnlock fic "The Case of the Green Dress". It's absolutely amazing, and really digs deep into the psyche of the characters, particularly Mary. It doesn't paint her as a villain or hero, she's just a complex person with deep faults. I think you'd love it. Also, it's be great if you could do a tipsy OTP about Thilbo (from The Hobbit), Korrasami (from Legend of Korra), Pearl x Rose (from Steven Universe), Bubbline (from Adventure Time), Cherik (from X Men), Spork (from Star Trek) and FinnPoe (from Star Wars; you can hold off on this one until the new movie comes out). You can pick and choose any of them in your own time, but it'd be great if you did them.

Have you seen the delate scene of the final episode? You speak about how the ending was the right and i can only suport you (Bedelia said Will another true in Season 3: "Can't live with him, can't live without him"), but the delete scene... man, it gives me hope that there would be a 4th Season. Is a short video, a cuple of seconds, but says A LOT: Hannibal and Will in the church in Florencia, side by side. And will with a beautiful blue suit.
