Amina’s date with destiny: Tracing Amina Mohammed’s roots in Amalemba

Monday, is a big day for Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, who is in the running to become the next chair of the African Union Commission. Ambassador Mohamed has risen through the ranks to become one of the most respected Cabinet Secretaries in the country. Namukabo Werungah went to Amalemba in Kakamega County, where Amina Mohammed spent her early life.

A Somali woman, enjoying the highest office simply because she went to school in Kenya while Miguna a Kenyan citizen by birth is being chased away simply because he lived in Canada, Kenya is a sick society.

amina ali there are no somalis who are kenyans by birth, they are all by naturalisation but of course you do not know that. Ask the Nubi nation in kibra. That is why she has never talked about her origins publickly because if it were to be traced it would be traced back to Somalia. Her parents are somalis who migrated to Kenya and probably never acquired citizenship. Notice how they never feature in public discourse? Think beyond your ethnic veil.

If we go by history, even the Kikuyu, Kamba, Luhya etc immigrated to Kenya from other parts of Africa. And for your information, i am a somali born in Mombasa... does that make me a Kenyan by naturalization? and why do we have 3 whole counties for us if we are not Kenyan?

amina ali you obviously have no idea what you are talking about, I am not talking about somali the tribe I am talking about Somali the nationality. She is not only Somali in tribe but also in nationality since her parents were from there and probably never acquired Kenyan citizenship which makes their offsprings foreigners, are you getting it now? Ask your parents if they do not have Kenyan citizenship that makes you a foreigner even if you were born here.

I am a lawyer by profession so i get how a person becomes a Kenyan by birth... I am a Kenyan by birth because both my parents are Kenyan as well. But if you are sure Amb. Amina's parents are not Kenyan, then i totally get your point!
