Amish Bulk Grocery Haul | Whispering Pines Country Store
We've hauled home many supplies from Whispering Pines Country Store during out trips to our off-grid cabin. We've shared a few of those hauls with you guys after the fact, but we've never really taken you inside the store before. So in today's video, let's go shopping! The store was very loud during this trip, so we apologize for the poor audio ♥ Todd & Rachel

Oh man you showed such restraint lol, I'd have needed a Uhaul. And yes to pickled garlic! It's delicious and makes wonderful gifts. You'll love it! It's good to eat as a side and you can use it in salads too.

I love sea salt, but it has no iodine in it. It wasn’t until I got so low in my metabolism that I looked into my diet and realized I had no iodine intake at all, even processed foods now use sea salt instead of iodized salt. When I went back to iodized salt it helped noticeably, so now I take a kelp supplement made in Oregon. It makes a huge difference. Just something to consider if you don’t eat as well as the 1870’s homestead probably does. 🙂

With canning you don't want iodine in the salt. It can cause color changes in the food. Just make sure your table salt has iodine.

Just a small bit of information for you about buying some Kombu seaweed. I break off a small piece (1 inch by 2 inches) and break that into tiny bits, then add them to any vegetables or even Italian sauce that is cooked or even just heated for a little while. It dissolves, and leaves no flavor. I put it in all my home-made soups. And there you get all the good trace minerals!

I went down a big iodine rabbit hole. Table salt is trash, I take an iodine supplement and use high-quality sea salt, or Himalayan salt ♥️♥️

The quick way to get price per pound on a fifty pound bag is to double it (100 pounds) then you just divide by 100, or what I do just move the decimal point two places. So $37 x 2 = $74 or 74¢ a pound.

Ahh, Uncle Wiggly game, I inherited an Uncle Wiggly book that originally my grandmother’s, then my dad, myself, now my daughter has it to read to my grandson. I used to do different voices for the characters. I love shopping at Amish shops, used to live near one when I lived in central Pennsylvania. Used to visit the Amish farm market shops and buy their cakes, pies, breads and rolls. Sooo good! Thank you for taking me with you and bringing back memories.

Love seeing your grocery haul from the Amish store, wish we had such stores in Great Britain. Sea salt is usually much cheaper than Himalayan salt so there isn’t a direct price comparison. PS beware sea salt can contain micro-plastics too.

I love it! Feels like home to me ❤ I was a Yoder before I married and I was born and raised in the heart of Amish country, Lancaster county PA. When I lived briefly in MO, I would go into the only Amish store in the area just to get that feel of home. I agree all the bulk goods can't be beat. I find the stores even have a very familiar smell from all the bulk spices they carry. Thanks for bringing me home😊❤

My bucket list includes a trip to an Amish store. Sadly, there are none here in New England. I told my guy if we are ever in an area that has one we are staying long enough to go shopping!!!! We were in Pennsylvania last year but the stores were all closed on our only free day. I was SO sad. We just didn't plan things well enough. I know better for next time. Thanks for giving me a glimpse of it!!!!

My husband watched with me this morning. He’s often commented that we must be long lost sisters. Me being the very much older one. We live in the heart of Amish country in PA so bulk food stores are our grocery stores most of the time. It’s interesting to see some familiar products. Snavely Mills flour, Zimmerman’s peanut butter and Golden Barrel syrups are all from our backyard. I love finding a good buy, stocking up on the bulk foods and dreaming of those beautiful stainless steel bowls. Life is good.

That place looks just like our Mennonite store here in west TN. Same packaging, same stickers, same set up, lol. I think they all order from the same place 🤣 I love going in there but I have to watch the prices, ALOT of it may be bulk but not the best prices or ingredients! ALOT of people have to remember (IMO) that just because it's in there, it won't always be a better price, it won't necessarily be better for you, etc. You have to hunt and know your stuff! Thanks so much for sharing the store with us! I love going in there and looking. It's so simple, not all the pretty packaging and marketing that can blind you! ❤
