Story 5: OMG, just knock the f-ing door! You're 23 and you have no idea what adults can do at night? Do you really want to see sister's husband naked once? Is it ok, if he'll come to your room without a knock? If they were living together without children or parents for sometime it can be a little stressful for them to have someone in their house, and especially when they don't know basic privacy rules. That's why your sister could reacted that way, but it's not "overreacting" at all! You can also ask you sister to move things you want to share in a shared space, not private

Story 4: Absolutely the jerk! I adore my children and couldn't care less about what random strangers might think of me. I HAVE sang happy birthday to them in public and never gave a single thought to whether someone might think it's "embarrassing." The woman in this story clearly has no children and wouldn't make a good step-mom... When it comes to making my kids happy, embarrassment isn't even a consideration. Non-parents likely won't understand, but when you have your own some day, you'll finally understand that their happiness is YOUR happiness.

She is the jerk, but playing some devil's advocate here-> It was said it was a classier restaurant, much classier than the ones that they should've gone to from ops tone that was picked out by the father. Depending on what kind of restaurant, it might have been a bit much, as other people in the restaurant might have paid for a classy dinning experience and it to be disrupted by "loud and wholehearted singing". Not saying shes not the jerk, even in this situation she's still heavily the jerk, but some more lenience might be warranted

The last story, op is nuts thinking it's ok invading someone's space like that. Just because you're allowed to borrow something doesn't mean you have the right to go into their room whenever you feel like it. When I lived with my sister I always knocked on her bedroom door and always asked for permission to go in if she let me borrow something. And living there rent free, why can't op get the things she needs with her own money? if op has no money thats on her and sometimes you have to give up things. "Daily hair and skin routine" well youre going to have to give that up until you get a job. she doesnt really need it that bad. Op is 100% in the wrong and her sister isn't overreacting

Yeah, I also thought he was the jerk before hearing the friend's side. Like, why are you so focused on the "Expensive necklace" you got her? Something with a lot of time and thought put into it is obviously going to be more appealing. Like, I get it if you don't like the dummy. That's totally fine, but that one comment just makes it seem like you're bitter that she "didn't appreciate" your present.
@docomega7862
@docomega7862 Жыл бұрын
@@DoctorOaks exactly, a neckplace is a nice present, but since he didn't bother to describe it, it was probably impersonal, so of course it won't have the same appel as a personal gift like the dummy. And yes, he has the right to dislike it, but what was he expecting that she would throw it away for him? It always baffles me when one of the people in the relationship (no matter the gender) is saying stuff like "I don't like it but I tolerate it" it seems to me they are rejecting a big chunk of their partner's personnality, so it's pretty much doomed to go down

Last story: Ever hear of knocking before entering a room!? And don't just barge in after the knock. Wait for the person in the room to grant you permission to enter. Also, what's with the constant borrowing from your sister!? Get your own hygiene, makeup, hair blower, etc.! Don't have enough money for that? Have your parents send you a Walmart/Amazon or other store card with some money on it. Going forward stop borrowing from your sister and stop barging into the master bedroom and bathroom. Those are private spaces. You have been very rudely acting like you own the place, and your sister and her husband are your guests. Unless you want to be kicked out of a rent free living arrangement, CUT IT OUT! HECK & DUMB NATION! When I was 8 years old I decided to never marry, or have a boyfriend, or have kids. I'm in my mid sixties now, and never changed my mind, but I do understand how other people think and feel on personal matters. Your sister and her husband have my utmost sympathy for having to put up with your rudeness. Frankly, I'm surprised that your sister didn't finally kick you out after you barged in on them having private time together. If it had been me, I would definitely have kicked you out after that. I'm actually wondering if maybe you have actually been doing all this on purpose. Perhaps you are jealous of your sister's marriage and better living situation. I have trouble believing that someone your age could be as clueless about boundaries as you are trying to sound. Personally, I think your sister should kick you out.

10+ years ago our “friend’s” sister kept hitting in my boyfriend, now husband. She was in her mid 30s, twice divorced with 2 kids. She made every excuse to see my boyfriend. Every time she saw me she gave me the dirty look of “you’re the only reason why I can’t have him.” My boyfriend made it very clear to me that even if I wasn’t in his life he had no interest in her. She’s not his type, plus he does not want to be a dad to someone else’s children. He kept brushing her off, finding every excuse to say how great a girlfriend I am, and that he doesn’t want to be a stepdad. Finally my MIL had enough and decided to confront her. My husband doesn’t like confrontation which is why he held off. We later found out she probably had an evil plan in mind but that’s a different story.

@@aniinnrchoque1861 I thought he was the jerk in the situation without hearing the other friend’s perspective. I get where he’s coming from, I hate horror. I literally can’t even watch trailers cause it worsens my anxiety. That said, the situation could have been handled much better but I think it was so wrong of that friend to call him out like that. They sounded really smug and condemned him for using AITA. Maybe he could have been using it to garter sympathy or maybe he was genuinely looking for another perspective. I know I use Reddit to sometimes get a third perspective. Hope they ended things. It probably would have never worked out anyway if he hated horror

Even if she can't help feeling embarrassed, she CAN help acting like her few minutes of being uncomfortable in front of a few people she will probably never see again is more important than that little boy having that memory of having his dad sing him happy birthday which is what most kids expect & enjoy, esp considering his mom's sick & he probably didn't think about that, even for just a few minutes. If she's mad bc she thought her feelings were more important than anyone else's in this situation, she clearly doesn't have any business being with someone who has a child.

Before the friend gave their side of the story I couldn’t understand why OP was so against his girlfriend having a Slappy dummy or carrying it around everywhere. I have a stuffed doll of Stan Marsh from South Park that I got as a consolation prize from my grandma after my cat died, and I carry him around everywhere. Tbh the fact that she has an actual replica of Slappy the dummy is the coolest thing I’ve ever heard, I kinda want one myself now. But the friend came in and explained this all happened because OP never took his girlfriend’s actual interests or hobbies into consideration and then got upset because her interests aren’t what he thinks they should be.

Story 1 Not the jerk, that woman is just immature and has no idea that you can’t just “Fight people for your husbands hand” Also, your daughter is a hero Story 2 You’re the jerk, you know how much your girlfriend loves that dummy, and you decide to scream at her that it’s creepy. It’s okay to find it uncomfortable, but as the response said, you could’ve calmly told her that you don’t like the dummy and ask if she could keep it away when you’re around. And you get her an expensive necklace when you know she doesn’t like jewelry and expect her to like it? Why not buy her something Goosebumps related? Story 3 Not the jerk, your boyfriend is mature enough to know that calling your girlfriend a bitch is not okay or mature at all, and rather than apologize, he tried to cover it up with “It’s just a trend” Story 4 You’re the jerk, the father was just trying to cheer up his son and make his birthday special, and you feel like you’re entitled to tell him not to sing to his son; it’s okay to feel embarrassed, but he was trying to make his son happy Story 5 You’re the jerk, your sister is entitled to her privacy and of course she’s gonna get upset at you after you keep barging in her room, it’s not that hard to just knock!

Story 1: Not the jerk and I hope that you and your husband did get your daughter some well deserved ice cream after driving away that crazy lady. Story 2: assuming that what the friends/acquaintances of the GF are telling the truth, then OP is the jerk. Heck even if we take away their portion of the story, I would still say OP is the jerk of the story. There was absolutely no reason for you to have blown up the way you did when you saw your GF at the door with her skippy doll. Story 3: Honestly makes me glad that I don't have a tik tok, mainly because those trends just keep getting stupider and stupider. But I don't know how to feel about this story, mainly because I grew up where we curse either because we're serious about it or because we're just joking around with other people who know we're just joking and even throw some jabs back as well. Now if you told your BF that you weren't comfortable being called a B then yeah I could understand your actions a bit better. But if you didn't say anything beforehand and just expected him to just somehow magically know what your taboo words are then I would say that you're both in the wrong and didn't handle the situation like grown ass adults. I also can't help but wonder if there is more going on behind the scenes with the OP than what she was letting on in this story. Either way I'm more upset that food was wasted for no good reason. Story 4: Gonna use the taboo word from the previous story for this one, but lady not only are you the jerk, but you're also a bitch as well. Your BF was just trying to cheer up his son while his mother is sick, from what I've gathered in your story, I can't help but feel like you've purposefully withheld just how sick the boy's mother is. All I can say is.if you truly care about not only your BF but your BF's family then you should really take a hard look at yourself and decide whether or not you're gonna start taking your BF and his family more seriously moving forward, because if not then you just need break up with him and let him focus his attention on his son without any distractions. Story 5: If you're living rent free at your sister's and her husband's house the very least you could do is respect their privacy and stop barging into their room whenever it's convenient for you. And I agree with your sister and that you should apologize to her husband. I would say that if you don't apologize to her and to her husband, then I think your sister should just kick you out of their house as well. No one should have to deal with a disrespectful little shit in their own home regardless if they are family or not.

I agree with everything you said except in regards to story three. You shouldn't have to be told what words are "off limits" for words like the B word. It's one thing if they're both already in a conversation where they're poking jabs at each other for fun, but to just walk up to your girlfriend randomly and ask her what's for dinner while she's cooking it and calling her a B is asking for a break-up. I'm gay and I wouldn't be very happy if my boyfriend randomly walked up to me and asked me "what's for dinner f*g"

Granted it seemed like the staff were fine with it, but some people would say it broke the atmosphere of the restaurant. Did OP and her sister share a room as kids and/or did they come from a large family? I'm guessing she was used to the lax boundaries in such a situation and doesn't get that it doesn't work as adults. Hell, even if she paid half the living expenses, walking into her sister's room is unacceptable. I had to deal with a similar situation. We bought my parents home and had to let my older sister know she has to knock as it's no longer her or out parents' home.

Even if they used to share a room it doesn't excuse her actions; it's one thing to do that when it's your room too but it's someone else's room and not only is it someone else's room but it's a married couples' room. Honestly, while I know the OP fouled up making his girlfriend cry with his reaction (or overreaction), I don't think that warrants everyone he knows digging into him for said reaction. Everyone has their own opinions and interests. The girlfriend was into horror for as long as she can remember, but no matter how supportive her friends and family are of her interests, there's ALWAYS going to be a time when horror does what it is meant to do: freak you out. The girlfriend and OP's respective roommates may have bagged on the OP very badly, and even more so when he was looking for advice online, but can they honestly say that if they were in OP's situation, that any of them wouldn't have been at least a little startled or shocked. And as long as the OP acknowledges his screw-up, and keeps himself in check for the future, then none of his friends should chew him out no more than the bare minimum. Because to me, as the story progressed, it quickly turns into OP vs the world for his overreaction.
