I'm binge watching some of your videos tonight. I smiled when you said how you got excited gluing and cutting as a youth and grew up to find others love paper and cutting, tearing & gluing. I have my scrapbook fro. High school & I'm 64 yrs. Now. I love flipping through that book & seeing how as a " youth" I loved paper . Its WHO WE ARE! I also have a Diary from jr. High. Thanks for sharing, it does my heart good.

I grew up in upstate NY in a hunting home. We ate whatever Dad harvested, and we always gave thanks for our food. My dad taught me how to tan hides, so that none of the animal went to waste. One winter, travelling to my Grandmas house, we saw a lot of deer on the side of a mountain, and a dead deer, just lying there that had starved to death. I asked my Dad why he hunted deer because they are such beautiful animals. He told me that he did it, not only to feed our family, but also because if there were no hunters to keep the deer population under control, then many of them would starve to death in the winter when there is not enough food for them. So, I have mixed feelings about hunting. I am Native American, and someone who thinks that all life is sacred. As long as someone is hunting for food, thanking the animal its sacrifice and God for the food, and not wasting the animal, then I think it is OK. My boss is an avid hunter and goes on hunting trips sometimes. I asked him what he did with the animals that they killed when they were away, and he said that depending upon where the trip was, the meet was given to the locals directly, or donated to the food bank in that area to feed the poor. When I volunteered with SVDP, hunters here often donated deer meat to our food pantry. When you are poor, meat is one of the things that you often have to do without because it is so expensive, so their donation really helped us to feed them. On the flip side, I am totally against hunters who kill for a pelt and throw away the meat.

I also have mixed feelings.

I absolutely loved hearing your story and your views on hunting! I completely agree with you on having mixed feelings, your story reminded me of when I was little - I asked my dad why he didn't hunt ( my uncle was the hunter in the family) and I was really scared of the idea of eating a dead animal. He explained to me the value of an animals life, no matter the size, is to be respected. Hunting has been used by many generations over the years and it has aided many civilizations with food, shelter, tools, etc....they didn't let a single bone go to waste and they valued the life that they were taking. This is why it makes me so sad that nowadays poachers are making it "normal" to kill for pride ( usually its animals that are going extinct) - its really sad. Thank you SO much sweetheart for leaving your views and sharing your wonderful story and for you wonderful support!

As your dad said, if people didn’t hunt, animal population would be out of control. My husband and son hunt and we put up the meat for our family and give the rest to other friends that need help providing food for their large family. Anything left, the help center accepts. And when I was young, the only meat we had was the meat my dad hunted. So I don’t have a problem with hunting at all. It’s better to eat the meat hunted than the factory farms that provide meat to the grocery store. So I agree with you. I’m thankful for the food. Although I eat VERY little meat now days.

Oh my gosh, this is my absolute favorite kind of video that you do. You’re so right! These videos are what got me hooked to your channel. I was exactly the same way, as a kid, saving scraps of paper that hold memories and that look like junk, but aren’t! And I DEF thought I was weird when I realized that no one else saved their trash, lol! But these videos (and process videos from a few other channels) are what made me realize that I could do this! Document in a way that preserves those memories and it beautiful! You’re amazing, and I’m SO glad your channel exists!

Also, if you’re interested in a *really* good glue for fabrics and paper, my absolute favorite is a brand called Sobo. I get mine at Joann’s, but you can also get it on Amazon. It’s permanent and STRONG, (like, I’ve glued in things like keys and my dog’s name tag directly to the page with it! And I have yet to find anything it won’t hold) and acid free. It stays flexible when it dries/cures, so it’s actually what I use in book binding! And it’s also much faster drying than tacky glue or other brands like it. Plus it has an easy squeeze bottle. (Though because it’s so fast drying, you can’t forget and leave it open, or it’ll clog) 💛💛💛

Amity Bloom Yup! Keys! For real! Like, an actual key that I carried that was to my good friend’s home that was a place of refuge for me during a REALLY hard time I was having. She made me a spare key, and she even made it a rainbow one, but when she moved, I didn’t need it on my key ring anymore, so I glued it in my Journal! If I could post a picture here for you, I totally would, lol!

I understand your feelings on hunting. I too feel very strongly about hunting just for the sport of it. My husband hunts and he uses the meet, I will not eat it nor will I ever! ( ok, if we are in the zombie apocalypse, maybe) but he respects my views and I don’t even want to see photos of him and his conquests. I do have to say that if he is not sure he can get a “ clean shot” he will let it go. He does not want any animal to suffer just to get a deer, if that makes sense. I have to tell you, on a much more pleasant note, I love watching you and I have really been inspired to start making my own journals, something that I can pass onto my grandchildren. Watching you, I get so many wonderful ideas so thank you so much!

I'm part Hopi and Sandia. Hopi are very peaceful non-warriors and I COMPLETELY agree...hunting should be for food.... my husband and father do hunt pheasant for food. as a family we respect and love the birds as they feed us and we have the birds at family gatherings. they don't hunt anything for fun and not food. I have the same view on fishing as well.... it makes me so sad to see children thinking its ok and holding guns for sport... if you shoot it you eat it is a big rule in their circle and yes they made someone eat a squirrel cause he was an (bleep) and shot it. never was invited again after... so I totally agree.. and as for xmas shopping lol we were doing 1 gift each this year and spent the rest buying gifts for some foster children. well, i was so proud my kids agreed to that my hubby and I sacrificed our anniversary vacation to spoil them a ton :) we just had a blast getting all the fun things they love :)

What a beautiful thing you did this holiday season- I can only imagine the amount of happiness you provided for those kids - and it all came from love ❤️

Oh yeah and I wanted to say I feel the same way about hunting. Feeding oneself and family by hunting is one thing. Adorning one’s home with dead animal heads to prove how tuff u are is another. I once visited a home that had hunting trophies all over the walls- it was disgusting. The deer I can understand, the meat was used for food and the skins were made into belts and wallets. But having a dead stuffed once beautiful bobcat above the tv? Like why? What for? I was really grossed out....anyway. Happy January

how fun! the one thing im wanting to do is take my children to the Hopi village (reservation) in AZ but I have to write and get permission. they don't allow many outsiders as people were stealing from the land :( but Hopi art is so rare and beautiful (not just saying cause Im part Hopi) Navajo is gorgeous too but very easy to find, that so great if you get to see that many of those pieces are so rare and amazing. something to cherish for sure! thanks for sharing that.... Corn maidens are one of my favorite things to look at in the art ater Kachinas :)

Then one day I found a vintage electronic typewriter for $13. I thought what the heck I'll try it for $13. Took it home plugged it in and it worked and it is so easy to type with. There is only two things the auto return doesn't work but I can do it manually and it is kind of loud when you turn it on. But that's ok I can live with that. Love the idea of typing on velom. I'm going to have to try it. Rebecca

Loved the entire video. You are one of the few people I can sit and listen to. You always have interesting ideas and interesting things to say. I feel the same way you do about hunting. Cards Against Humanity is so much fun! Don't play it warning for people who are easily offended. lol.

phennec I am so happy you loved it Angela!!! I try to make my journaling videos interactive and therapeutic, also I really love to talk about important events and things since I love seeing other people's point of view. You are also completely right about cards against humanity!!! We had so much fun but it was definitely getting heated in the end haha :)

I completely agree about hunting. I personally feel that hunting a living being for pleasure is awful. I myself am vegan but I understand not everyone wants to or can do that. I do understand hunting for food when needed, especially when it is people who use every part of the animal. Nothing goes to waste. One animal can provide food for many, tools and clothing. I would rather that than the industrial farming that happens now. The animals are not in their natural habitat and given growth hormones etc. There is a lot of cruelty. Then only some of the animal is used. There is so much waste. Just my opinion. I know we are all different.

Your completely right Emma! The industrial farming industry nowadays just breaks my heart- its definitely not what it used to be. That is the main reason as to why I too wanted to become vegan - its wasteful, harmful, and cruel :(

You can just add glue to your less sticky washi tape. I love your journal so beautiful. I believe the same thing hunting should be for food not pleasure

Hi, When you first began to journal, the very first time, what did you do if you could not find in your stash what you wanted or needed for your page, what did you do? Did you wait till you found the image, and leave the page blank? Or did you just put what you had? In this video, you had your pile of ephemera next to you; is that stash from a larger stash, or do you collect weekly and use only what you find for that week? Then....so so sorry for all the questions, you said you put your life in a separate notebook then add it into the journal, do you do it in a time line in the decorated journal, or do you hop skip and jump around the journal and write where it fits the image? Thanks so much!

I loved all your questions! In the beginning I only used what I had which was some old stickers, paper scraps, and my pictures...I drew a lot ( borders, picture frames, florals) and also used magazines that were lying around in the house. Back then I journaled by date and would just glue the items that were next to me. For the ephemera that was next to me- its actually a smaller stash that I collected from my daily life, as well as ephemera that I picked out of my HUGE stash. ( I am going to be filming a video on how to sort and use our ephemera the best way for journaling soon! ) For the journaling I typically write in a bullet list form in my separate notebook or list pad , and then I transfer the memories and writing wherever it best fits in my journal, like I said I don't do it chronologically- just where it best fits! I hope this helped and like I said I will be sharing more about my style of journaling and how I organize it in a later video!

People have become disconnected from the natural process of harvesting meat, because of groceries and butcher shops etc. If people had to hunt daily or weekly for meat they would have more respect for the animals and would not be so gluttonous with it. I bow hunt and fish, I'm also a veteran and my views are pretty much in line with yours Nazzy surprisingly. I'm so glad we have young people in our world like you. My two boys are about your age and they feel the same as you.
