Hello Nazy! I'm taking your heirloom envelopes class 😊 and yesterday I started making my heirloom envelopes. Now I'm going to put your coffee staining method in my new envelopes. I already watched the complete class more than twice but I still as I'm putting my elements together I keep following your instructions and understanding new information every time. You did such a wonderful job with the class and I'm enjoying everything and I'm so happy with the results I'm getting. Thank you for all you do and keep shining bright! 💕💕

Hello Nazy! Great process video. I've been coffee dying paper for awhile, but know you can always learn new tricks. The "baking soda" addition to the solution is genius. I knew the acidity was a factor, but never researched a solution. Stained a stack of envelopes after enrolling in your "heirloom" class. The next batch will definitely be archival. Thanks for sharing your sweet crafty spirit and expertise with us. Happy Crafting!

Just an added note on the archival property of paper. Old music paper, ledger paper or standard copy paper are NOT archival to being with, this is why the scrapbook industry developed their own paper that are acid and lignin free. I understand why you’d want to limit the amount of acid from the coffee/tea but just know that the paper used isn’t inherently acid free, and thus not truly archival 😁

This is almost exactly how I antique my papers except I use tea, white paper and my casserole dish is clear glass. It's really the perfect size for paper. And lasagna. lol. I do dry my paper at a lower temperature, about 300 degrees. Thanks for sharing your method. I really need to try coffee some time with the sprinkles. Looks so good! :D

Oh, Nazy, you look like a doll! So pretty! And that kitchen is lovely! You make everything pretty. Thanks for sharing your method. I recently tea-stained some pages and included some handmade, foraged tea from a special batch I purchased from an herbalist friend who lives on the west coast. Ahhhhh, the pages smell SO good! However, I obviously would not use that special tea every time. I just had to try it out. Have a wonderful day, xx Lynn

Your so cute Nazy! I never thought of iseinf baking soda to archive it but it’s perfect! Im definitely going to be making some coffee dyed pages tonight! I’m actually getting my first travelers notebook in the mail tomorrow so I’m excitedly making my first insert! When you put two pages on your baking sheet, they over lap sightly. How do you keep it from making a weird shape? I’ve found if my page over laps another one I’ll usually always have a perfect outline that’s darker exactly where the edges of the paper over lapped? From watching this video I definitely realize I keep my pages in way to long so maybe that’s it. Thanks for making the video. I just found you the other day and absolutely adore your personality and all your videos :) I hope you have a great day hun

Great video especially for a beginner! I did the tea dying once, but wasn't too pleased with the color... not dark enough. For my second attempt I tried coffee. But after about 5 minutes of soaking the paper just tore as soon as I touched it. Do you find coffee is just harder on the paper?

Thank you so very very much for this tutorial. Everything you mentioned not to do and the result is what I've been doing and the results I get -- the paper falls apart, it cracks -- I've asked others how to do it, they say just stick it in there until you get the results -- also, about making the archival paper by adding baking soda -- you are a wealth of information which you always so gladly share -- may life continue to bless you and all of your efforts -- cheers -- Patricia

I think you did a good job of showing the dye process. It seems the artists all have thier own tweak on how to do it, but they all seem to work. I've used coffee and tea. I've cooked it and air dried it. I've let it wrinkle and I've ironed it. I've used water colors, food dyes and cooked food juices. All turn out well. I'm happy with it all. Now I need to use the big stack of papers! TFS🤗

Ok I am a bit confused. I JUST watched another paper crafter make "tea stained" paper. She had seeped some tea bags into water used a paint brush (with real hair not synthetic) and she just brushed the paper with the very dark steeped tea across the paper, and to get darker spots she just shook or flicked the brush on to the papers and then left them to dry The didnt rip or crack at all when she used them. Your method is awesome yet seems so scientific. And so longer!??? I dont know ... maybe yours is just So SPECIFIC.....

I think you meant concentrate instead of saturate. You delightful to watch and explain that we can make the coffee “dye” without doing math or chemistry. I save the grounds left from doing a French press method of coffee for drinking. I boil it letting a lot of water evaporate for a dark concentration and add the cheap instant coffee crystals. Then when I need to dispose of the grounds I put them around my rhododendron bushes and trees.

Hola Amity. Gracias. Omo no entiendo inglés. Podrías por favor decirme: 1. el nombre del polvo blanco que agregaste? 2. Cuanto tiempo dejaste el papel dentro del horno? 3. Podría utilizar dentro del horno en vez de lata una refractaria pyrex? 4. A que temperatura debo calentar el horno? Muchas gracias por tu ayuda.

A. Heating the coffee won't make it darker. B. Copy paper, old books, etc etc etc aren't archival, and adding it to the coffee or tea won't magically turn your paper archival.

Just a note to add. Make sure the coffee isn't hellishly old. I used years old coffee I found in my parents cabinet since I don't make coffee and I ruined 3 sheets of not cheap paper. It had a terrible odor of cat urine and it didn't go away. I had to buy new papers and use tea.
