In 2009, I got a job at a nursing home, as I’m an RN. I used to see a prostitute in my area frequently, until I no longer saw her around. When I started this particular nursing home job, I saw her there as a patient. She OD’d on heroin and coke, got brain damage, and was a vegetable with a feeding tube, and was basically comatose. It shocked me and broke my heart. What a waste of a life. In her early 40’s. People, please stay away from drugs. So many sad endings. Thanks for bringing knowledge to everyone about drug abuse. I’m betting you have indirectly saved many lives. Much love, Yvette ❤️

4 days ago I was driving through a rough part of town after 11pm. I just passed a street light and noticed a figure in the road. I pulled up and saw a female sprawled out in the middle of the road. I pulled over and went up to her yelling to wake up. She was making that same exact sound from this video - that gasping for air but barely any coming through. That exact same sound. I promise you will never forget what it sounds like once you witness a person gasping for breath and the breath just. isn't. there. She was out cold. Her eyes were closed and I was calling her and tapping her to wake up but she wasn't waking up. I ran to my car to get some Narcan that I keep in there for this exact purpose. I expelled it into her nasal passage and tilted her head back and jiggled her nose a little to get it to seep into her nasal passageway. She didn't wake up. I got down and started doing chest rubbing - where you take your fist and pump you press it against the person's chest is hard as you can and just roll it around up and down back and forth in a circle pretty much as hard as you can. NOT CPR. This is something you specifically do for a person who is overdosing. After a minute of that I stopped and rolled her on her back. I noticed that she was taking deeper breaths now, but still extremely labored, and too far between each breath. She didn't wake up. At this point the EMT was on their way as other people saw her us in the road. They arrived after what felt like 10 minutes. They immediately gave her oxygen and I noticed that her O2 levels were at 32%. I must have brought her up from like 5%. They should be at 100 for normal breathing. After a couple minutes on the oxygen machine they got her up to 100%. Still, she didn't wake up. I hung around for a few more minutes to see if she came through. She was still lying on the cold ground. As soon as they tried to pull her up to get into the stretcher, her eyes opened and she looked around confused, then passed back out. Finally, she woke up. She made it through, but she was so close to not making it. So many don't make it.

Your work on this video was great and very powerful. Why are you filming this instead of giving him first aid-breaths and chest compressions. This is alarming that you are focused on your videos instead of giving him assistance. This is a crying shame; a terrible realization of what your priorities/motivations really truly are. I am shocked at your behavior here. Nobody expects you to be a doctor but anybody can do the basic ABCs(Airway/Breathing/Circulation) to give a person half a chance until medics arrive; yet you refused. That man survived in spite of you refusing to provide chest compressions and breathing for him until help arrived. Was this video worth that risk🥲? I’m sure you’ll think it was worth it. I can assure you it was not! Next time how about you put the camera down and offer some simple breaths and chest compressions until help/equipment arrive. You know good and well you can check for heartbeat/breathing-it doesn’t take an M.D. to do that. This is very disturbing, to watch you choose to do this video recording as a man lays dying. This is on the same level of those on the street turning a man’s pockets out while refusing to help him as he lays dying. I truly can not believe you did this.

This film is incredible. The subject is harrowing, the event sounded terrifying and God definitely placed you where you needed to be, Mal. It’s a terrifying story, and thankfully didn’t go the other way. Joe is very lucky to have had an angel watching over him. The way you made this film, I almost felt as if I was there. You have such a talent for this, Mal. Stay blessed 🙏🏻 x

That is how my boyfriend looked 6 years ago. On his bed, purple in same places. Too late for him though. Mix of dope and xanax. Was a year into recovery. The demon took over. I wish i could of saved him. Happy you were there for him this time. Hopefully there wont be a second. 🙏🙏🙏

The last time I overdosed 2 years ago, a day out of rehab. It took 7 2mg narcan to get me out of it. Carfentynl. You just never know. That same batch of dope would go onto kill 3 of my neighborhood friends that week. God Bless you for being there Mal. Joe...DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN BROTHER. PLEASE! All my love to you Mal.

I hope you don't me asking a question about your experiences. I've always wondered: when you overdose, is it like a near-death experience?

I'm sorry, but am I the only one who felt weird about this? I usually enjoy this channel. But this..this is eye opening. And maybe I'm wrong but, this video makes me feel differently about Mal. You walk around interviewing ppl (mostly woman), talking about a sober life and all that....yet, you live with an addict and he brings these same woman you interview back to the crib? You're an enabler. And this roommate of yours overdosed, and you think to get out a camera? I'm starting to feel like this man intentions aren't as pure as we first thought. This is fucking weird and creepy as fuck.

@@morecheaperIt's never a very wise idea to form your opinions based on hearsay. While this video may seem weird or creepy to some, it could very well save someone from ever trying that first hit. Yes, it's kinda gritty and raw, but that's the way it is there. Mal's just trying to give an accurate depiction of a drug overdose in hopes of preventing others from taking that first hit.

If your in recovery i don't think living in that environment is good for you. I know that documenting this is your job but you need to be in a place where you can go home and be away from that.

How on earth does Mal produce these videos while living in that environment? It beggars belief!
