Very interesting video. You didn't show how much the 44 was mushroomed out. However the 454 looked like it was huge after the expansion. That was very impressive.
@user-jh1it8iq4zАй бұрын
Yeah, he didn't show it because the 44 was a FMJ vs the 454 Casull. Also penetration isnt what im looking for. Stopping power is everything to me. 454 Casull lifted that Gel block off the ground.

Such light loads for the 454. Next time use full power load
@brianklamer33284 ай бұрын
The 44 magnum bullet has a lead core which is denser, only 10 grains lighter than the 250 grain all copper Casull load. A closer comparison would be two loads from the same manufacturer of similar bullet weights of the same bullet design. I own both of these and can assure you the Casull hands down is a much more powerful cartridge. Thanks for the interesting video.

I have both of them in lever action rifles and make no mistake, the .454 is way more powerful, that's not to say the .44 magnum isn't powerful. What makes the .44 magnum more appealing is the price of the ammo, not as powerful as the .454 but powerful enough to meet the demand of what you need.

OK I have to ask just one question. For a channel as large as yours, why oh why wouldn't you compare vortex ammo to vortex ammo?

Both are great. But the 454 is a noticeably more powerful round. But I am a 44 magnum fan.

I liked and subscribed! Do some research and do an episode on this subject. You will draw huge interest. It will affect every aspect of performance. When you change the one thing then it changes all things. Then you got whole new hobby. The gun, the barrel, the trigger, the weight, the recoil, the amount and type of powder, bullet design ALL BY RE EVALUATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRIMER/POWDER REACTION. IF THATS SILLY FORGIVE ME

Thanks for the info. I carry a Smith 629 PC 2.5" 44mag and a Ruger Alaskan 454 casull 2.5" as my hiking/camping/hunting revolvers in bear country. The Vor-Tx 454 ammo is the lightest 454 ammo I carry/shoot. I like it for black bear,Mtn lion county/two legged varmints, but not grizzly land. With bullets over 300gr's the 454 is noticeably more powerful than the 44mag its just next level. I love both, and both have their place. One is just bigger and more powerful the other one. It comes at the price of more recoil and higher ammo cost. I've hiked/camped/hunted in bear country for over 30 years now. Had a few scary moment's , but avoided having to shoot a bear/Mtn Lion by using good sound judgement and following all safety guidelines. I've seen a huge trend of folks carrying 10mm's the lasted few years. I have two 10mm's, but honestly the round is tiny compared to a 454 casull just put them side by side. All the old timers I've spoke with say 44mag min to one shot stop a charging brown bear. They are huge and powerful animals you have to see one in person to get a grasp of their size its nuts! When they come you will only have time for 1-2 shots 90% of the time the crazy fast charging.

I'd like to see this again with both in hardcast
@carlosmorris45104 ай бұрын
Very true; it's ultimately more about the actual load and the cartridge design - as you've said... There's a couple of .44 Mag bear loads from Buffalo Bore and Underwood (340 grain +P+) which are very close in power to the .454 Casull - but they're hard cast loads specifically for hunting, not hollow points.

I think the intended purpose is attitude adjustment of large bears, not hunting.
@carlosmorris45104 ай бұрын
@@CandidZulu I think you're probably right; it's a handgun caliber - or perhaps for a lever-action rifle (the .44 Magnum, at least; I'm unsure about that for .454 Casull).

@@AmmoMart Practice more. ;) I can get five off, reload, and five more, on target at 15 yards, in 2.6 seconds, and I'm using 2200fps rounds out of a Raging Hunter with a stock trigger. It really doesn't kick to bad and the ports do a pretty job with muzzle rise. It's better/faster one handed too.

Sorry comparing apples to oranges. Velocity and bullet design huge difference like to see same bullet full power loads then compare. 45 +p loads can be fired from 454 casull which are possibly slightly more powerful than the 44 mag.
@Salieri474 ай бұрын
Rodney, you nailed why .44 mag wasn't displaced by .454 Casull. The performance difference isn't huge (at least with some ammo) and .44 mag is easier to find, guns & ammo. Paul Harrell, you are missed.

I shoot a Smith and Wesson Model 69 in 44 Magnum, and used to own a Marlin in that caliber. I owned a Puma in 454, and now have 2 Smith 460s. None are painful, but the Casull loads in he 460s are sharper in recoil than 460 factory loads. The 45s, een hot 45 Colts have performed better on game for me than the 44s. And in the end, game is the game for these rounds. I have had a 14 year old sh9t my 460s, his response was tomask if he could afford tmbuy it from me. Those unported single actions are the worst form factor for use of powerful pistol cartridges.

First off, I don’t know shit! 😳🤷🏿♂️🤣🤣🤣 but you or someone answer my question. I read old article I’m talking field stream, American Rifleman etc. “Barbershop Library” I’m not talking about old article today I’m talking about old meaning IM OLD! But I remember this… toss out the gun. The barrel the trigger, not about match shooting. The fine tuning not relevant. Bear with me, but in reloading trying here like proposing different needs, like penetration#1 depends a lot on bullet (design) so so but weight/speed… velocity squared = force x4. That answers a lot, eliminates a lot. This caliber penetrates more, this weight speed offers more expansion, big slow down more knock down? or not? The powder warrants much discussion…But no one talks about the primer? I read in this ancient text that a primer that’s too hot wastes powder, robs the cartridge….a cooler primer causes a more controlled burn utilizing more of the powder load and vastly improves performance…so every reload must be refigured from that point giving a whole new list of stats. Yes? Hell I don’t know! Like shoot pool with someone who can’t play well, it fucks up the better player! 🤣🤣🤣 but if anyone gives a shit say something. Then I will reveal the context of the caliber and contents of what I read. If this is a dumb question tell me and I will kill myself😳🤞
